This is actually one of the things I very much like about this site. This is a horrible idea, but it might lead to a good one eventually. We can 100% take 1 year of cap space for the right price. Open up options for TOR to make something happen for Marner because of this NMC.</div></div>
A bare minimum 100% of the made-up nonsense I post on this site are exactly those horrible ideas I am absolutely sure make no sense on their face but feel might contain some buried nugget of genuinely interesting possibility. If I can't get something out of my head but I also can't make it work, that's when I show up here to throw it out and see where it goes.

Mitch Marner Middle-Man
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>1 year of Marner at 50% would have absolutely massive value. The bulk of which would go to TO. Of course no one will agree with that. But this is cap friendly, so the Hawks fans in this instance likely think they should get a top prospect and a 1st to retain while TO gets a 3rd for Marner.</div></div>
I understand how you feel. I was absolutely furious when Patrick Kane got a 2nd round pick because he was able to choose his destiny and he used the rights he earned. I was upset because the other side didn't give the value that I thought my player was worth. Marner at 50% would be one of the best contracts in the NHL. The NYR paid Patrick Kane a WHOPPING ~$168k for his services. And a 2nd rounder is all we could get?!?!
It's a tough spot. Toronto Media is doing you/him zero favors. The fact that Marner wouldn't take the presser and that market keeps rubbing it in by replaying over and over again Nylander (of all people...talk about ironic) yelling at Marner about This isn't Juniors Bro! Hawks can play a role. Treliving will go shopping for partners if Marner is actually the one going...he does have a full NMC and can stay if he wants. I actually think that's what should happen. Value will be very hard to find right now for either JT or Marner.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Elias_Sedin</b></div><div>what about Tavares helping Bedard and showing him the defensive side of the game? what if you got him for a 2nd. The guy is a great leader and you get him at a good price for one year. he had 65 points last year. how Is that not a good add for the Hawks. would you do it for a 2nd and 3rd instead?</div></div>
I wouldn’t pay for Tavares as I have said in multiple threads now. The Hawks have enough veterans on the roster to “show the young guys the way”, they need talent. If JT comes to Chicago with draft capital attached to him I would consider it because I can then draft talent or trade that draft capital for younger established players who may be around for the long haul. If not, I use that cap space to try and acquire someone like Teravainen in FA.

Hawks decline. The only value Tavares has to Chicago is the ability to flip him for draft capital at the TDL. They wouldn’t be able to get 2 x 2nd round picks back for him when he is flipped, so there is no point in the Hawks making this trade.

Hawks trade for Marner idea
Hawks aren't spending assets for a one year Marner rental. Although that trade is probably fair value.
And Stan hasn't been the GM in over two years.

I think Moore is a 2 years in college kind of prospect, not loving the accelerate the rebuild moves of Hanafin and Nylander but that’s a better debated next offseason. I’m not sure why we would bridge Reichel when we have the cap space to pay him long term…also Mrazek is not getting that contract from a NHL team.

I think Hanifin gets traded and extended (not chicago) but I would consider it if he got to UFA depending on his ASK/How we view our defense prospects. I would say there’s like a 20% chance he gets the UFA.
As far as the goalies are concerned I would think the hawks can fill that need from within.

I'm not opposed to the Nylander or Hanifan signings. Those could make a lot of sense depending how this coming season turns out. Mrazak won't be back. Maybe a different veteran G, but definitely not Mrazak. I think a Soderblom/Commesso tandem next season is a real possibility. Can't see Novak getting 4 years from Hawks. Too many good C prospects in the pipeline to give a UFA that kind of term. Maybe a vet on a one or two year deal at most. Guttman will be the 3C next season unless he falls of a cliff in his play this season. Moore probably goes back for a 2nd year of college as stated above.

Yikes....Resigning Mrazek. Payng Nylander over 10m. I think the Hawks are in a good situation long term......but no need to waste cap. Lots of good value avaialable.

Hawks easily decline. In no world is Lilypad worth a 1st and a 2nd. And Hawks would have zero interest in Always Nicked Up Robertson. He wouldn't be a top 10 forward prospect in the Hawks system at this point.

Most realistic and best team on this site
1. The kings just signed Talbot, don’t think they’ll trade him before he ever sees the light of day with them
2. The Jets aren’t paying a potential top 10 pick for a fringe second to third pairing defensemen
3. I’ve said this a 1000000000 times now Chicago has no need for either
4. By the time the flyers are even a playoff team again, at least half of Nylander’s contract will have gone by, not much longterm benefit

Kane and Toews 1 last cup run
-Vegas doesn't feel like a landing spot for Jarnkrok - they've got some room with Lehner on LTIR, but devoting 60% of that space to a 3rd liner feels like a weird use of assets.
-I don't see the sense for Chicago to pay this much for a veteran in his walk year. Vancouver's pick is likely to be in the first half of the 2nd, and Ottawa is probably mid-3rd - would you give up a low-40s and low-80s pick for the *possibility* that you might get a late-20s pick? Because, remember, Brodie could turn into a pumpkin and completely tank his value playing on a rebuilding team at 33 years old - or worse, he could get injured. The difference in value between picks #40OA + #80OA and #28OA is the equivalent of a mid/late-4th rounder - wouldn't it just make more sense for the Blackhawks to sign a guy like Nick Ritchie or Tyler Motte for $1M and flip them out at the deadline for that type of draft capital instead?
-3rd for retention works, but think you need more than just a warm body with that 2nd to get the Flames to move Zadorov. Nothing big, but someone with more NHL potential than Rifai.

Hawks decline (if Taveres hasn't beat them to it)...obviously. The privilege of paying PJ's 11 million cap hit for his age 33 and 34 season can go to anyone else but the Hawks. I like Del Mastro, but a full season of AHL is WAY more likely than NHL ready. Cup of coffee with injuries or as a reward...sure. Hawks will keep their picks and prospect and continue rebuild from the ground up rather than chasing the past of a declining/aging player.

Thread:
Core Four is NOT It
-I'll leave the argument on value for this trade to those who want to have it and just say Edmonton couldn't do this trade because of the cap - McDavid & Draisaitl: $21M AAV; Matthews+Marner+Brodie: $26.5M, with the Oilers currently only having $5.6M in space *and* needing to extend Evan Bouchard.
-Again, no need to talk about the value. Chicago has Corey Perry, Nick Foligno, and Taylor Hall on hand as veteran mentors for Conor Bedard. They're not going to pay premium assets for the ass end of Tavares' contract.
-I can see the argument that Nylander and Guentzel are similarly valued players; this would come down to how the Pens feel about their odds of extending Guentzel, and if they think giving up a 2nd/3rd for Steeves/Robertson/4th is fair value. I'd pass if I was the Pens, but that's just me.

I heard the price to dump salary (as related to Chicago) has gone up. They are ready to do business but you have to make it worth their while… I’m not sure this trade does enough of that.
I like the 2025 2nd, it’s seems like Davidson has been stockpiling picks in later drafts since the McCabe trade, but I think you need one more quality piece for Chicago to do this. I’m thinking either another 2nd in 2026+ or a prospect equivalent.

Hawks decline. They were trying to trade up virtually all draft night to grab Moore; every team ultimately decided to draft their guy with their pick. The Hawks had Moore rated a LOT higher than 19th and, somehow, he fell to them, anyway! Even if Arizona sent us a third round pick with But, hawks would likely still decline.
