-I'll leave the argument on value for this trade to those who want to have it and just say Edmonton couldn't do this trade because of the cap - McDavid & Draisaitl: $21M AAV; Matthews+Marner+Brodie: $26.5M, with the Oilers currently only having $5.6M in space *and* needing to extend Evan Bouchard.

-Again, no need to talk about the value. Chicago has Corey Perry, Nick Foligno, and Taylor Hall on hand as veteran mentors for Conor Bedard. They're not going to pay premium assets for the ass end of Tavares' contract.

-I can see the argument that Nylander and Guentzel are similarly valued players; this would come down to how the Pens feel about their odds of extending Guentzel, and if they think giving up a 2nd/3rd for Steeves/Robertson/4th is fair value. I'd pass if I was the Pens, but that's just me.

In principle, not opposed to this, however I think 87 declines it. Sid and Jake have had instant chem since Jake's arrival in 2017 and I think Sid has enough pull to say he'd rather have Jake than Nylander. Plus Nylander is going to cost more to resign than Jake will. So, Pittsburgh would decline.

Though he denies it....... 87 has a lot of say when it comes to roster construction I'm fairly certain and he should. Man has been the model of consistent greatness.

Can't really hear you out, if you think Tavares waives for the Hawks. Bad for Edmonton too...they don't have the cap, and five years total control of Draistail and McDavid is worth more than three years of Matthews and Marner.

Hawks decline (if Taveres hasn't beat them to it)...obviously. The privilege of paying PJ's 11 million cap hit for his age 33 and 34 season can go to anyone else but the Hawks. I like Del Mastro, but a full season of AHL is WAY more likely than NHL ready. Cup of coffee with injuries or as a reward...sure. Hawks will keep their picks and prospect and continue rebuild from the ground up rather than chasing the past of a declining/aging player.

I feel that Kyle Davidson is very strategic with his cap usage. Del Mastro is a highly regarded defensive prospect. I cannot see why a rebuilding team pays a highly regarded prospect and a 1st for an albatross contract. That is not good asset management, and serves no advantage since the Hawks are no where near contending. In my opinion, the only way the Hawks and Leafs trade is if Chicago is offering cap relief at the expense of high drafts picks or prospects coming FROM Toronto, not to. I agree with dannibal on his points.

I appreciate your creativity though.
