Nashville was shopping Askarov to move up in the last draft.
This is a huge overpay for him now. I don't think he's developed as hoped. That 1st rd pick can be pretty high

Hawks need to stay the course. We just drafted Gajan and have Soderblom/Commesso/Stauber developing. No reason to lose assets for Askarov. Stay the course!

??? Askarov has more than lived up to expectations so far, since coming to America.

CHI's unprotected 1st+ is an overpay, given they'll likely be close to last place again, but Askarov is still an elite prospect on the rise.

This hurts the Hawks big time. I'm honestly at a loss for words as to why you would even consider this.

This is an awful proposition. We don't even need goaltending right now and that is a MASSIVE overpay for Askarov. I wouldn't even pay this much for 8 years of Shesterkin, Sorokin, Vasilevsky, or Oettinger. I would just keep our young players and picks, and continue to develop the goalie pipeline we already have. If we get closer to contention and it becomes apparent that we need better goaltending, THEN we can start looking, but even then, I wouldn't pay this much for a goalie.

You could take out the 1st and I still would not do this. Reichel is former 1st progressing very nicely ready to be a full time NHL player now. Soderblom looks like a very good G prospect (saw him on a top 30 G prospect list) and the Hawks have spent 2nd round picks on Commesso and Gajan. As Garak said....keeping building and worry about goaltending when most of everything else is in place if (and I mean a BIG IF) none of the Hawks pretty deep goalie prospect pool pan out.

Hawks aren't doing this. Truly awful for the Hawks.
