You could always make this top-10 protected 2025 and Holtz.
I think we need an upgrade on LD to give Saros a chance to revert back to 2020-22 numbers.

That trade doesn’t work for either team. Calgary values Coronato (and they should) and NJ won’t part with Mercer for Markstrom

NJ can’t roll into the season with that defense setup or goaltending tandem.
Take Tuevo’s 6 and use it towards Hanifan and trade for a goalie!

I’d love to see NJ make that trade at the draft or this offseason, even if it means adding something to cover the first 3/4 of the year

I don’t hate the Chychrun trade but there would need to be a nice, reasonable extension in place for NJ to give up those assets

I think more needs to be done to the defense. I’m not sure how much of an upgrade Cole is over Bahl (if at all).

Probably not but who knows. I think the guys your sending are sensible and consistent with what TB would want if they are going to retool this summer.

Trying not wear rose colored glasses too tightly to my face - TB has always placed a tremendous amount of value on cost-controlled players with term. Getting Bahl (2nd pair upside) and Siegs (2nd pair with a good contract) seems on par with the type of deal they usually try to make. Maybe we add a 2nd or 3rd future.

The Devils should be moving those pieces for #1 goaltending, top-4 defense help, or a top-6 winger.
Acquiring more project players without addressing those top needs doesn't make a ton of sense at the moment.

Good luck finding another goalie my friend im sure those teams won’t bend your desperate team over a barrel too lol</div></div>
We have too many assets for grabs and there are plenty of 'big game' goalies available. We'll be fine.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ansabch12</b></div><div>Ah yes and then you can add Simon Nemec (and probably another asset going to New Jersey)</div></div>
Then take Anderson out and switch the pick to a 2nd. And if that doesn't work, we'll go find a different goalie.

My humble opinion:
2024 1st + Holtz
for
Saros (and maybe a mid-pick)

A 9 overall for a 1 year, 35 year old goalie is unprecedented.
Calgary takes us to the cleaners on this deal.
Add Rasmus Andersson (and probably another asset going to Calgary).
Or switch the pick from a 2024 1st to a 2025 2nd.

I think the Devils would accept that, but you've got problems that will push you over the cap:
- My guess is Swayman needs ~$7M
- Toffoli will need more (I think Fitz would have resigned him if the 6M x 2 years was acceptable)
- Ned and OEL make more
You could always trade us Swayman for Holtz and the 9th overall pick to help with the cap issues :)

Matheson isn't the type of player the Devils need, but the objective value of the trade would make it difficult to pass up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>I can find a million references on here to Guentzel getting traded for a roster player, 1st rounder, and top prospect too. Doesn't make it any more realistic. Expecting PIT to take LESS than they can get at the TDL is very stupid for Dubas to do and likely would expedite in losing his job.</div></div>
I think we're looking for proximity here.
Guentzel's deal wasn't a million miles off - conditional 2nd with reasonable odds to become a 1st, player now, two B prospects - traded in-division too...
To the points before - it feels like whether this is Bahl + 2nd; Bahl+2+prospect or 2025 1st+Bahl and a pick coming back - we're in the ballpark.

I was half teasing on about the Marino-Smith deal.
I think NJ could look into a 2025 1st + Bahl for Petey with extension and potentially a pick coming back.
I probably would have looked a little closer at the D UFA market, but if Fitz swings and misses from July 1 - 10 then I could see bumping the offer up assuming goaltending was sorted.
