I'm not really sure how Casey fits into the long-term plan given our current defensive core.</div></div>
In this scenario, we trade Marino for one year of Larrson, and spot opens up in 2025-26 for Casey.

I am all in favour of paying for a goalie at a fair price. If 1 year of Ullmark costs Mercer, I’d rather pay a fair price for a quality dman and bottom 6 and roll Kahkonen/Allen/Daws/Schmid

What's this "not very great d-core" you are referring to? By next year all of Hughes, Hamilton, Marino, Siegenthaler, and maybe Nemec too will be better defensemen than every single defenseman on the Habs roster. That's 5/6 so if the d-core's not very great the 6th guy must be prone to shoot the puck into his own net like twice a game.

Welp, this is just wrong. It's been banged up if anything. I can see Marino at 3RD because of Hamilton and Nemec...but he's not a bad player because he's 3RD.

Why would New Jersey ever consider that? Marino is way better than Matheson Gritsyuk is a decent prospect, and the Devil's 1st is 100% going to be higher than Winnipeg's unless they manage to steal the last wildcard spot in the East and go on a run to at least the conference finals

Just a thought
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>passwordischris</b></div><div>What do you think his value could be and what do you think it will take for the Devils to get him?
And I don't think he moved to the wing because he's currently hurt. Might be a size thing that keeps getting him injured so playing on the wing may protect him a little more.</div></div>
I think virtually all of his value comes from however much retention is on him. At this point, for 2 years of a 35 year old goalie making 6 mill who's struggled a ton lately, NJD shouldn't pay more than a 2nd.
Jack will be back at C when fully healthy. It also stems partially from NJD having a lack of LW. NJD should fill that in the offseason

Mercer for Markstrom
Flames aren't getting Mercer
Also with the high interest in top 4 RD around the league Calgary isn't going to be the team DeMelo signs with, especially since they really don't need him

Drop the 2nd. Then pick one of the remaining assets. Holtz or the 1st. Maybe you can squeeze a 3rd out of them too but that’s about it. That is far more realistic than what you have here.

yeah i didn't think i was asking for anything crazy, ofc knowing very little abt those prospects... i'm not opposed to picks, but dubas has indicated he prefers getting prospects to try to speed up the youth movement that has barely begun, thanks for the feedback

Rebuild starter
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DevilsFanInTX</b></div><div>I typed no and then erased it.
I think NJ considers that pretty seriously - and is probably the first Mercer deal I've seen on here that makes sense for NJ.</div></div>
Gives us a strong defensive group, good goalie, and adds to our picks. In this case I think you’d hope Gritysuk comes over to play LW next year.
Overall it should give us 15 mill to find 4 left wingers.
Henrique, Trenin should be 6-6.5 mill or so combined. Lots of room to play with
Jack, Nico, Haula, Lazar down the middle
Bratt, Meier, Holtz, Bastian on the right.
I’d do it

Would think he would be included in a Saros deal as well. But a player like Mercer shouldn’t be untouchable for the highest level goalies in Saros/Ullmark</div></div>
Saros and Ullmark have 1 year of term. Would be very shortsighed to trade a 22 year old top 6 forward for 1 year at the most volatile position in hockey.

Minor critique - there is no way that I'd bring back Smith and MacDermid. I think there are some UFA targets that can aggressively forecheck without the liability brought on by having these two knuckleheads on the ice (Trenin, Duhaime, Lafferty, etc).</div></div>
I think Smith is worth bringing back as a scratch or even in the AHL just in case of injury. his contract should be completely buriable tho

How would you make this trade more fair
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ansabch12</b></div><div>I think for New Jersey that’s the best method but you have to take risks because playing it safe with the level of talent they have is a mistake.
If they go into next season with a tandem of Allen and Kahkonen then Fitz should be fired.</div></div>
I think a statement like that in a vacuum is bad.
If Allen and Kahkonen play excellent down the stretch, then what?
If the prices are ridiculous, the prices are ridiculous. If more value can be found elsewhere in cap and in assets on filling other holes, like 2LD or a replacement for Michael Mcleod, I would prefer he do that.
Fitzgerald should be making every effort to get a good goalie at a fair price. If he has to overpay slightly, sure. But there comes a price when it's simply not worth it anymore.

Thats alot of nothing nashville has interest in for saros.
Foote gets waived
Bastian might join him
Dont need or want Siegenthaler
Holtz is nice but we already have too many winger prospects and judging by where we are landing in the draft this year we are probably destined to pick another one.
Draft pick is 2025
