Well, you certainly have the Habs fanbase all sewn up. That's the best offer they've had for Josh Anderson in three years, since the Islanders offered the 13th overall pick for him and Kent Hughes declined.

He's not a top 6 player, but the presumption here would be he could be a better version of Miles Wood (this is how I've always viewed him), in terms of speed and physicality on the 4th line.

It was a late 1st round pick without salary retained
Anyway Kent Hughes wouldn’t retain on Josh

After years of laughing off hab fans with Josh, now you bring him in to improve roster!? Yikes. Running with Kahkinnet & Allen! Hanifin says no thanks.

Josh Anderson as a top 6 option: god awful no I don't want him.

Josh Anderson in the miles wood role at 2.75 million. Sure

Trenin, Hanifin, and Hamilton back are the major roster improvements.

I can't imagine Mercer would ever entertain that offer if he's as good/valuable as Devil's fans have suggested. Montreal's better off just keeping Anderson, and I think Vegas re-signs Hanifin at that salary.

That's fine, but there isn't any reason for Montreal to make that trade. They don't need the capspace and are fine using Anderson in that role for the same reason you would be.

It was a first but some retention, wich was the reason he refused

I'd be ok with this ONLY if it was at the TDL next season and no other deals yielded a better offer with retention for other players on the team such as Savard, Dvorak, Armia etc.. Unfortunately the Habs only have a single retention slot available so they have to make it count and there simply is no rush to move JA out with 50% retention for 3 more years as of this off season. By the TDL we'd have way more info on who'd be the best to move with last retention spot. Making the gamble now is an unnecessary one.

If it were next off season though? I'd accept in a heartbeat. We'd have 3 full retention slots again.

Actually we don't even know. That's the problem. The "rumor" was intentionally vague. All it said was a team had been rumored to offer in a deal a 1st for Anderson and Hughes declined. There was no mention of what the amount of retention was or even if there were other negative assets added to the deal potentially. I don't think the amount of retention is even an issue for KH. It was simply losing a retention spot for 4 years while knowing there were a ton of other pending UFA players that would have needed to be moved before JA's contract was up that held it up.
