Next year re-signing Kane and Oilers picks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Timmah007</b></div><div>It starts with raising expectations on the guys we have nurse and Keith are veterans that have shown to have more of a physical presence than we have been seeing. Adding Niemelianen also goes a long long way. Bouchard isn’t a small boy either he could start leaning on people more. Just about every team need in my opinion is either in that locker room or in Bakersfield just needs to be put together.</div></div>
I don't see an Adam Larsson type defenceman in Bakersfield at all. And definitely not on the roster right now. What I do see are three defencemen who play almost the same way in Keith, Barrie, and Bouchard. This is whyI'm saying that we need a better mix and we can't trade Keith, and we're not trading Bouchard so the logical answer is Barrie.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Timmah007</b></div><div>I’m completely against moving Barrie. That’s a move once made can’t be just undone. Guys with his production history are incredibly hard to get. Niemelianen adds some of that shut down ability looking for. Just because Bouchard is looking good doesn’t mean it’s wise to put all the puck moving on him.</div></div>
It's not because Bouchard is looking. It's more about needing a different element in our defence. We have Bouchard, Barrie, Keith, and Ceci who don't necessarily play physical enough and I don't think Ceci will land anything of value, and I don't think we're looking to move Bouchard. So I think Barrie is the one to go get that piece. He's a good player, that's why he'll get you something of value. I would like to see an Adam Larsson type of defenceman on the right side of our defence.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockeyconnor97</b></div><div>Thought about running McLeod at 4c, but he’s too good to be playing 4th line imo</div></div>
I think that should force Tippett to find ways to get McLeod more involved - ie: playing him on PK, playing bottom 6 minimum 10 mins a night. If McLeod can get 12 minutes a night, it'd be ideal. Imagine when Holloway comes in later on too. They gotta find ways to play him 12 mings too

Love these lines and imagine just later on if Holloway can come up. I would like to get both Perlini and Benson in the lineup now tho so i might do something like:
Kane-McDavid-Yamo
Foegele-Drai-JP
Perlini-Nuge-Hyman
Benson-McLeod-Kassian
that's 4 lines deep

Knee jerk but before its too late
If Parayko was ever actually available, I'd think the Oilers would be all over bringing this local guy back home. Big, physical, can skate - yea he's been bad this year but type of player EDM would be all over. Outside of Bouchard, we really don't have any long term answers on RHD.

Offseason Flat Cap
#1 If ARZ even considers that, then the Oilers take that and run. Keith has a NMC so why should he accept this?
#2 You talk about saving cap space then trade for Allen, Atkinson, Dunn, all of who combine more than Yamamoto, Ryan, Smith, Ceci. On top of that you added assets to get rid of them. Counter productive to your logic.
#3 I think this is just making trades for the sake of making trades. Don't think it improves the team at all. Look at your 4th line and 3rd pair. Those are not NHL regulars.
Check this link of what I think the Oilers should do. It's not sexy, but it's definitely better than making all these trades and being a worse team.

There's no way EDM is doing this. #1 Price is out for the year. #2 We can't afford him next year, #3 What if he's not a 7M goalie next year, #4 Chiarot is not worth a first round prospect

If Kane is coming to EDM, don't think we need to trade for any forwards. We should focus our assets on shutdown D (we need about 2), and a goalie

This seems more like an offseason move anyway. Not that we'd move Hakanpää though, he's got a cemented role in our system.
I'd offer like Glendening+2023 3rd for Barrie, maybe with a condition that would turn out into a 2nd if he scores enough points.</div></div>
Yea not sure Glendening is gonna work LOL. Maybe Dallas isn't the right trade partner, Edmonton has Bouchard who's not yet proven like Barrie is offensively, but in time will run the PP. We need another RHD shutdown defenceman type. Obviously Hakanpaa is a great fit but I'm guessing there's someone else out there as well.

Couldn't it also mean you're re-tooling and getting a lesser talent back who plays somewhat similarly and also under contract at a reasonable cost? That's how I thought about it.

Archie's a good 4th liner and I expect Kassian to stay. If anything, we need a more physical 4C

Next year defence reform
Not realistic at all to expect both guys to retire. Why retire and miss out on money when you can sit on the end of the bench. Maybe they go to LTIR, but I doubt they'd retire and leave millions on the table.
I'm all for trading Barrie next year, but I'm not sure Soucy and Stecher are the guys I'd go with...and if those are the best FAs out there, not sure I'd trade Barrie yet.
Also why resign Koskinen and trade for Driedger? Driedger barely has any consistently good runs and Koskinen should just begone. I'd rather run Smith/Skinner next year then maybe trade for Varlamov at the deadline or something.

What if he scores 20 goals in 45 games for the Oilers? Gotta think that's more than league min. I wouldn't go more than 1 year, but I'd definitely up his AAV. I think Kane will be signing 1 year deals for the near future - assuming he is a model citizen playing for the Oilers.

He's better by a % and Leon's taken way more than him. Can't have a guy on the team who's just good at faceoffs when you've got Draisaitl/McDavid already. It'd be different if Ryan brought physicality as that is a trait the rest of the lineup is missing.

He is the ideal winger for McDavid soo... You could also word this by rewarding McDavid with the prototypical winger for him.
