Acquire Picks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sfesg</b></div><div>TBL rejects. You overvalued Jan Rutta.</div></div>
Tampa has to get rid of Callahan. It's simply not an option. I think a first and third is too much, but it's not off by that much. Keep Kunitz and make it a second and third/fourth and you easily have a deal. Rutta should be able to take the 3 RD position away from Girardi. I'd also lower the pick going to Carolina. Chicago should retain on both Ward and Kruger and send them to playoff teams for 6/7th rounders. Hagel, Olofsson, Barratt, and Karushev should end up being top nine forwards and I'd not be surprised if three of them ended up being top six forwards. I don't think that it's a bad idea to spend on Panarin though. He's young enough to help solidify a group of veterans that will help transition prospects into the NHL. Chicago has an extremely deep prospect pool, and they tend to lack in the veteran department. Kane, Toews, Panarin, Keith, and Crawford is a good group that will keep you competitive and help develop young players. I think that Seabrook will need to go once Raddysh, Jokiharju, Mitchell, and Boqvist start needing roster spots though.

What Could Have Been

I would be very surprised if he fills the spot in St Louis. Although hiring Q and getting Panarin in free agency would be great workout for my liver.</div></div>
I believe Coach Q will coach team Seattle :) Along with Ken Holland as GM, once Steve Yzerman takes over in Detroit.

neither would trading a former first overall and a 20 year old 4th overall for the Oilers

A reasonable target for an offer sheet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>Maybe Kapanen should score double digit points in a season before we talk about a 9+ million dollar contract.</div></div>
Dude, take a deep breath, this is a simple example of a hypothetical scenario. Insert any player who's scenario is the following. His team has 4 RFA's two of which will be commanding around 20 million leaving a small amount for several players. So when the big guns get their money, the other two RFA's will get squeezed. Let's say one of those RFA's is coming off a pretty good year where he scores 20+ Goals and 40+ points. That guy could expect 3 mill a season but his team won't be able to go over 2. An offersheet on that player would be possible, with much less in compensation. It doesn't have to be Kapanen. Use your imagination.

TBL...what would you give for an extra $5.8M in cap?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mardzy</b></div><div>The one problem that I see with this trade is that Chicago isnt giving up a player of Schenn's calibre.
Blues made that trade thinking they were adding a first line center to their lineup.
This would be adding a 8th or 9th defenceman who may have to be put on waivers as they already have 8 defencemen
(Hedman, McDonagh, Stralman, Girardi, Coburn, Sergachev, Dotchin and Koekkoek).
Trade Debrincat or Schmaltz it may be closer, but then it makes less sense for the Hawks.
Tampa definitely will benefit from shedding that salary.</div></div>
You’re so wrong. Forsling is an outstanding defenseman and that’s why he was asked about by multiple teams last year at the deadline. Debrincat? Schmaltz? Huge pieces of their retool. You’re whack. Forsling is better than Girardi, Dotchin, and Koekkoek. McDonagh is good, but he sucks on the TBL. Watch Forsling play.

Rebuild Part One. Please Comment.
I can definitely see the majority of this seeing as how it is a rebuild. A couple things that I would point out are that I believe Larkin will be in the 6m range, while Mantha would likely get a bridge deal with a lower AAV. If the Wings can acquire Grubauer, that is absolutely key, in that scenario I don't mind giving up AA.
I would also keep Nyquist and Howard. Nyquist can contribute while Howard can act as more of a safety net in goal.
I also like the idea of trading up IF Merkley is still available.
Overall not bad, just my suggestions!

Or perhaps they trade down and gather more picks if a true 1C isn't there.

Get Tavaras and jam everyone under a reasonable cap
Besides what the above post pointed out on your other kids and their contracts, I think your off on your numbers for the big three as well.
First.... fair, deserved or otherwise...It's wishful thinking to believe Nylander is going to settle for 6m. If Jack Eichel got 10m...how does Nylander not get 7 with ease? Even if you want to make the case that Eichel is better, he's better by 4m? Just because Nylander is third in the pecking order of Toronto's kids, doesn't mean he isn't worth his market value.
Let's dig deeper...
McDavid (21 years old): 1.21 PPG, got 12.5m
Eichel (21 years old): .84 PPG, got 10m
Draisaitl (22 years old): .76 PPG, got 8.5m
Don't forget that Toronto's kids are a year younger at least...so lets roll these guys back to 20...
McDavid (@ 20 years old): 1.16 PPG
Eichel (@ 20 years old): .79 PPG
Draisaitl (@ 20 years old): .55 PPG
Matthews (20 years old): .90 PPG He's gonna get 11m at least if you are giving him a long term deal... unless he takes less years and tries to hit the open market which would be a nightmare for Toronto.
Marner (20 years old): .82 PPG He's gonna get 8m on a breeze.
Nylander (21 years old): .72 PPG He's gonna get 7m, and a case can be made for him deserving more.
I know everyone wants John Tavares, we get it, its been posted 100 times. And if he left NY, I could see him liking Toronto as an option. I just don't see how Toronto is going to pull that off and retain every single kid they value. Someone is going to have to get moved if you have a prayer of fielding 4 lines and 6 dmen.
This is all without even considering that the Islanders would be brain dead to let him just walk. If they can't resign him, he's getting moved in a sign and trade. So stick Marner or Nylander in a deal and this all goes away! lol
