Final touches before the season starts
As a Sens fan myself, I really like this setup if we could land Chychrun! Alternatively, I propose the sens start the season as is and try to pry Dobson out of NYI if their season starts off poorly and they consider starting a fire sale to kick start a rebuild. Shipping out Barzal and Dobson could fetch a large reurn for NYI and I'd much prefer the price for Dobson rather then Chychrun. Plus Dobson is a Right shot D which is what the sens really need. I suggest the trade looks like Z. Ostapchuk, E. Brannstrom, a 1st in 2023 (top 10 protected) and WSH 2nd rounder in 2024 for N. Dobson.
Toughts?

What The Isles Should have done Next Season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>EHMatt</b></div><div>Or Pulock instead of Pelech. Both play the right side, which is what Ottawa needs.</div></div>
The issue I have with Pulock is he turns 28 before the season starts and will be in year ONE of an EIGHT year deal, meaning he'd be 36 in final season.
Also, the first five years of his deal has a FULL NTC and I'm not sure he jumps at the chance to come to Ottawa... but you never know.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>EHMatt</b></div><div>The rumoured ask from Arizona for Chychrun is:
- Zaitsev
- Meriläinen / Sogaard
- 2023 1st round pick

- 2024 2nd round pick
Basically they're asking the same thing Chicago paid for Jones. I think one of the 1st round picks will be taken out and replaced with a forward prospect like Jarventie or Ostapchuk and it's likely going to happen before training camp.</div></div>
I see if it is those two seconds, two seconds = more then a first. And if it’s merilainan maybe a guy like dahoust or lodin being attached

Trades Trades
Adding Chychrun to the OTT blue line makes them a better team but this is too high a price. I wouldn't do it.
If you were also taking Zaitsev then maybe, maaaaybe, I'd consider it.
- Thomson is a year out from being a potential top 4 RHD himself.
- Chychrun has yet to manage playing a full season without injury and at 24 has had surgery on his shoulder and BOTH knees.
- Chychrun is 3 seasons away from being UFA too.

Then they'll keep him. They have plenty of cap space. Holland didn't sell low on Jesse 2 years ago and he's not about to do so now.

Thomson being “untouchable” is asinine. he’s just not that valuable of a piece, JBD is right there too, and neither are ready for top pairing minutes with Chabot anyways.

Its like when i see ottowa teams with zaitsev or murray buyouts, it makes no sense to do buyouts when you are not a playoff team. Keep the bad contract for another yr.</div></div>
Is the "asset to take on Kassian" Tulio? because if you break the trade down into "Brown for 29th overall, Tulio to take on Kassian", then the value is still too low on both parts of the deal for Ottawa

Which assets here?
Connor Brown is worth a 1st + 2nd on HIS OWN
Tullio is nothing in the Sens current system
Where is the price paid to take on Kassian
There is a lot of Ottawa context that would need to know to understand that this is not remotely interesting for them

I would suggest removing the 2nd round pick coming back with Matt Dumba as well. Puljujärvi and Barrie barely equal fair value for Dumba. Since Minnesota is in a cap crunch, it could work.
This lineup would also fail to address Edmonton's biggest need in goaltending. Maybe they could offer up a nice contract for Ville Husso.</div></div>
No, respectfully Minnesota wouldn't take on either players

I've had this discussion with Sens fans and it seems to be the consensus that Sanderson is untouchable. But we need RHD more than LHD anyway, and I was told that JBD or Thomson could be on the table for a Cat trade.

What if Dorion actually did get a top 6 forward
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>EHMatt</b></div><div>I think this team needs 2 top 6 guys in order to take a shot at the playoffs. It would surprise me if Forementon or Brown has to be included in a trade to land some of these guys. Out of all the rumours I've read about, these are the players I'd be most interested in (not in any particular order). Keep in mind I'm not saying these are all realistic acquisitions, but I have seen rumours that Ottawa could make a pitch to acquire them. The team also needs a RHD to play with either Sanderson or Chabot so that Hamonic is properly slotted in the bottom pairing.
- Alex DeBrincat
- Claude Giroux
- Kevin Fiala (his lack of playoff performance makes me a little nervous, still early though)
- Clayton Keller
- J.T. Miller (I know he's mostly a C, but he also plays wing)
- Mason Marchment
I've also read that Josh Anderson could possibly be coming back in a trade for Colin White with Montreal. I'm not sure if he would be a good fit.</div></div>
two would be nice but not realistic. I'd be very comfortable with our forward group if we acquired only one, especially with guys like Formenton, Pinto, Brown, Joseph who can all easily slot into the top 6 and be complement players if needed. I agree we need one more defenceman but I don't think it will happen, especially after the acquisition of Hamonic. I'm okay with Hamonic as a #4 for now. The 6 I have above is easily the best group we've had in a long time (which isn't a high bar but I'll take it)

Salvagable 2021 Sens
Here’s my steps to make this team better:
1) Do Nothing in season
2) pick up a top 5 pick
3) make a trade in the summer
4) Bring up Sanderson
5) Get rid of the depth players that suck
6) Try to sign a great veteran like Giroux

This is a pretty good deal for both teams. I hate to lose Balcers because he's ready now, and a sneaky SOB in the offensive zone getting behind the defence and into good scoring spots, but he'll soon be in a 3-way fight for a roster spot with Abramov and Formenton.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>EHMatt</b></div><div>It's definitely something to consider, but knowing that Ottawa needs a first line C, this wouldn't be accepted. Having Connor in Ottawa would be amazing (I'm a fan of both teams). If you're getting Cirelli though, the Jets then have their 2nd line C to replace Little. I think if the trade was 5th overall, Wpg 3rd round pick, Colin White and Vitaly Abramov for 9th overall, Mathieu Perreault & Kyle Connor. One of Ottawa's 2nd round picks could be thrown in if it needs to be sweetened. With 5th overall Winnipeg could draft Jamie Drysdale if he's available or Jake Sanderson to help build back up the defence.</div></div>
Yeah I dont think the Sens would accept but it'd be mulled over. I bet the Sens would do the trade you proposed although Im not sure if the Jets would
