What if Dorion actually did get a top 6 forward

Description
Following up my last post, this team desperately needs a top 6 forward. If they can do this, everyone falls into place really nicely in the lineup.

The top 8 pick in this years draft is very much up for grabs so getting a top 6 forward is definitely doable.

I'm really excited to see a 3rd line of Formenton - Pinto - Brown which would probably be better than any 2nd line we've had since 2017. A lot of people forget that pinto was averaging 20 min/game and was supposed to be a key piece in the top 6 this year before his season ending injury and now he only has to be a 3rd line centre with Norris/Stutzle down the middle. And acquiring a top 6 would also push a 60-point pace Brown to the 3rd line.

I'm also really excited to see a 2nd powerplay unit that's not completely useless. I could see this powerplay being top 5-7 in the league (before you call me crazy, the powerplay was already top 7 when all 5 first unit guys were healthy this year and then now you're adding a 2nd unit so it could only get better, right?)

This team can and will push for playoffs I don't care what people say

I’m not saying this is the trade but do you think a deal for Konecny could make sense. He’s a reliable top 6 winger.

It would definitely make sense. He was in the captain of the Ottawa 67's in the OHL and a fan favourite here. I was upset when they passed on him to select White in the draft. His style of play would mesh well with Ottawa's too. And we are not in need of a superstar top 6 player, we just need someone who can play top 6 and contribute. Curious what the price would be

Would Kemell or Slafkovsky satisfy this need?

No we need someone now, not a few years down the line. The point is to support the young core we already have.

The thing is Ottawa is not an attractive destination for UFAs.

The only Top 6 UFA forward I can see coming to Ottawa is Giroux.

Though we'd have to really sell the idea to him and his agent Pat Brisson.

It's tough.

I would prefer not to go the UFA route or rely on someone signing as a UFA. If we get someone at a good deal then sure but we have the pieces to make a trade. The first round pick, lots of prospects, etc. Anything that is not already on the starting lineup I have above, I'd be okay with moving for the right player.

Same here. Honestly was just curious and thinking the fit could be there. Guess we’d need a Flyers fans perspective on the trade return though.

How much money do you think we need to bring in a guy like Kevin Fiala?

Probably like 7-8 million. Shouldn't be a problem

We need an owner willing to pay that kind of coin though.

I think this team needs 2 top 6 guys in order to take a shot at the playoffs. It would surprise me if Forementon or Brown has to be included in a trade to land some of these guys. Out of all the rumours I've read about, these are the players I'd be most interested in (not in any particular order). Keep in mind I'm not saying these are all realistic acquisitions, but I have seen rumours that Ottawa could make a pitch to acquire them. The team also needs a RHD to play with either Sanderson or Chabot so that Hamonic is properly slotted in the bottom pairing.

- Alex DeBrincat
- Claude Giroux
- Kevin Fiala (his lack of playoff performance makes me a little nervous, still early though)
- Clayton Keller
- J.T. Miller (I know he's mostly a C, but he also plays wing)
- Mason Marchment

I've also read that Josh Anderson could possibly be coming back in a trade for Colin White with Montreal. I'm not sure if he would be a good fit.

two would be nice but not realistic. I'd be very comfortable with our forward group if we acquired only one, especially with guys like Formenton, Pinto, Brown, Joseph who can all easily slot into the top 6 and be complement players if needed. I agree we need one more defenceman but I don't think it will happen, especially after the acquisition of Hamonic. I'm okay with Hamonic as a #4 for now. The 6 I have above is easily the best group we've had in a long time (which isn't a high bar but I'll take it)

I agree that it will likely just be the 1 top 6 forward, but I still think they'll come up short next season when it comes to the playoffs. I agree it's not likely to happen, but it's definitely what's needed to have a good chance at the post season. We'll see what happens. I do hope they fill all 3 needs though and dump Zaitsev.
