<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Zmach</b></div><div>Kassian wont be bought out for 1 more year. They likely bring him in and bury him if hes not good next year. The cap hit is not good on a buyout in the second year its the same as burying him.</div></div>

That increased cap hit year is the same season that Keith and the dead hits from Lucic and Sekera come off the books. It's far more an affordable idea than your proposition. The Oilers could have negative cap space going into the summer if they extend Puljujarvi early. Money needs to be freed up and nobody wants to move an asset out for Kassian. Make it make sense.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eberles_Backcheck</b></div><div>That is wayyyy too many assets going the other way in those trades. I ike MAF and Kubalik, but two 1sts and Lavoie for essentially a rental and Kubalik? Would rather go all in for Chychrun or try to get a legit 1st line winger if that's what you're giving up.

And two 2nds and Sammy for 30 games of Nick Leddy?

As for the Kassian buyout... I hate the idea of having more dead cap for another 4 years... but they may do it. What an awful contract that was/is :angry</div></div>

The Oilers can't afford a legit 1st line winger and Holland's already on the record for having balked at Chychrun. I'd love to have him too, just trying to play within the goalposts of things we do and don't know.

I don't agree with the evaluations of either of your trades for what it's worth: the Oilers have shown a preference to Broberg and Niemelainen, have Nurse locked in up front for forever, and are supposedly quite high on Munzenberger. Samorukov might as well keep a bag packed for the time being, and it's a damn shame because I'd much rather him over Niemo. Taking Bourgault then not expecting him to develop as a center is telling for one of Lavoie and Yamamoto. Signing Hyman until the heat death of the universe puts the writing on the wall for the other. Both Samorukov and Lavoie are B-prospects. They aren't among the league's top futures and I genuinely think you're overvaluing them.

The picks in question: no player drafted by the Oilers in the next three drafts will be a substantial impact player by the time it matters. If Edmonton's done their job right, then the two first round selections should be #31 or #32 and only by name do they carry more value than a second round selection. Any pick beyond like #40 and you're essentially gambling with the same odds as to whether or not they become an NHL player. Utterly valueless to a team that needs to win two of the next four Stanley Cups. The Oilers are able to keep Kubalik long-term while recouping a mid-round selection. That's an NHL player now while still getting a scratch-off ticket for June. They bring in the best goaltender currently on the market and add crucial defensive depth to a team lacking any beyond the top pair. They keep their best prospects, who'll occupy essentially every major role on the club for the next decade. It might not be precise value but it's tolerable.

There is no other solution. This past summer was where Holland had the opportunity to make a contender with over $30M in cap space and he genuinely pissed it away. Fixing it now requires that they mortgage the future to fill holes. If they wait until the end of the season to fire Tippett, then Holland is forced to give the incumbent a year to figure it out. By then, Ken's contract is done and now new management gets 3+ years to figure it out their way. At this point both contracts for Draisaitl and McDavid have expired. There should be fires in the streets of Edmonton. Draft picks should be sold en-masse in Lord Stanley's name. Otherwise it's too late.
