I mean, I guess the Flames might accept if Montour signs for the right price? Over $4m and I can't see them pulling the trigger unless they think he's going to progress much more than 2nd pairing. Literally may as well re-sign Brodie for $3.75 aav for 5 years instead.

Not... so... fast. I'm not certain everyone feels as charitable towards TB as the O.P. seems to think. These are all of the overpays TB got themselves into trouble with and I'm not helping them out; I'm gonna take advantage. Johnson is in a demonstrated decline at 30 years old and 4 years left at $5 mil per. Shades of James Neal! No, I think Imma offer sheet Sergachev and once TB matches, Imma offer sheet Cirelli. How now, Brisebois? Match Cirelli and I'll offer Monahan, Kylington, Pelletier + for Point..?
Maybe I'm dreaming but so are all of the other posters on this board.

I figure that's about right, value-wise, for Gaudreau, though I'd prefer Konecny over Ghost. Likely he's an untouchable though. It works if the Flames sign Hall.

Happily, Chiarelli is NOT our GM and therefore this trade would never happen.

It's a "No" from Calgary. The moment Lindholm's name came up, the line went dead. Price can be great, though the Flames will not swallow that $10mn under any circumstances.

Not. Being. Moved.
The chemistry the line he centred with Lucic and Dube displayed, in addition to the fact that he led all Flames' skaters in post-season points is what will factor heavily into the decision to keep him around. Had he fallen off the map like Jankowsi this past season, there is no doubt that he would be packing his bags. Janko is a decent bottom-6 C and capable penalty-killer but not at $1.75 q.o. I would trade his rights and a third rounder for Andersen, who has not exactly proven his value over the past two seasons.
Even more likely is that Calgary sends a package to PIT for Murray, which will also not involve moving Bennett. More likely, that would involve 2x 2nd rounders. Best of all would be prying one of the two Vegas keepers away. Ideally Lehner although Fleury with retained salary would be great too. Problem being that I'm certain Vegas would be loathe to move him within the division. Remember, Fleury would have waived for Calgary had Brian Elliot not caught fire at an inconvenient moment (only to promptly crap the sheets in the playoffs).

Even if you took out the 2 draft picks, the Flames don't do that deal. Bennett is not getting traded in any way, shape or form, for Andersen; nor is he being traded for anyone else. The Flames simply have no interest in trading Bennett.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ALitteral</b></div><div>The biggest issue is that we 1. don't have a ton of cap space and have big holes on RD and depth in net (maybe 3C if Patrick does not return although I expect him to be back fulltime next season), and 2. have six NHL-caliber LWs (Giroux, Lindblom, JVR, Farabee, Laughton, and Raffl).
I believe Gaudreau is good at hockey, will rebound from this season, and adds a great offensive game to almost any team. I just don't understand how to make it work without massive tinkering.
And yes, Lindblom is untouchable given his production in the shortened season, his 200-ft game, and his off-ice battle. There's just no way I could handle that this year.</div></div>
Yikes! I see what you mean on cap space. If some of those performance bonuses hit, the overage penalties are going to be a killer next year. At least they might be able to spread it out over two years based on the new CBA. Looks like no way to make a deal there as we can't take back enough salary to compensate.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ALitteral</b></div><div>Just when I thought we were past the Gaudreau to Philly shenanigans....
GMCF on Lindblom: "Our organization believes wholeheartedly in Oskar, our players believe in him, AV and our coaching staff believe in him and I believe in him. We couldn’t be happier to have this three-year deal done. “As I said to him earlier today, this hopefully is the smallest contract you sign for the rest of your career."
GMCF on trading Ghost: "I’ve been here a year. I can’t say I'm always on social media but I’m amazed at how often I’m trading him. We were certainly not looking to move him.Teams have called me on him. Nothing really makes sense right now to me to move [him] unless we’re getting a really great impact player back in some area."
So... we'll ship out those two guys and two high draft picks for a player that is coming off a down year and into the deepest part of our depth chart. By the way he will be a UFA shortly.</div></div>
Nice, that's the feedback I was looking for and am happy to receive! As I said, I had no clue where Lindblom fit in on the Flyers' depth chart or if he's an untouchable and you definitely answered that! Is there a deal to be made with Philly vis-a-vis a counter-proposal? Perhaps Morgan Frost and no retention, for instance, rather than OL? I believe there's little question JG would re-sign with Philly at the expiration of his current deal and I really hope you don't come back with, "He only has 2 years left, we'll sign him then..." 2 years is an eternity these days.

I would take that deal for the Flames as I believe Raanta can still make a difference, though I would ask for substantial salary retention and return a higher conditional pick. I.e. if the condition that he starts at least 40 games (essentially stays healthy) is still permissible then change the 4th to a 2nd or something along those lines.

That's true and I'm honestly shocked that the league awarded the pick. As much as I detest the Oilers, I agree that this wasn't fair and sets a poor precedent.

That's fair, so what does Tampa do when no one in the league is generous enough to help them out of their cap hell without asking for a significant bit of pain for the Bolts? Who do they not sign and do they go with a 19-man roster all season? They aren't sitting in as lofty a perch as you assume.

It doesn't hurt to try. This is only exploring what a fair deal may look like, not whether the team actually accepts. Remember, negotiations have to have a starting point.

Trying to be objective about trading the core - How did I do
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>doabarrowroll</b></div><div>I think the Rangers, in reality, would decline a 1 for 1 Georgiev for Bennett. They're really really high on Georgiev and Bennett doesn't really help them that much. I don't think he really does anything the Rangers really need and I can't come up with a reason why they would target him specifically. If they're just looking for a cheap bottom 6 C, they can look in UFA for one of those older short term guys while prospects develop or they formulate a better plan, they don't need to trade Georgiev for that. If they're looking for a 2C, Bennett surely isn't it.
People here may disagree about Georgiev's value, but if the goal is identifying value that gets the trade done for the Rangers side, the Rangers probably need to be compensated more heavily. They had opportunities to trade Georgiev at the deadline and declined because of how much they like him and how much value they see in him/the ability to go with him and Igor moving forward for cheap for a few years.</div></div>
I could absolutely see that. The Rangers have gotten really unlucky with their goalies, in a way. They've been forced to dump some amazing talent in Raantaa and Talbot already and I'm sure they don't want to get burned again. Is Shesterkin exempt from the expansion draft? That would have some bearing on the trade as well and I feel that Bennett is a solid add for the right partner.

As for the philly trade there’s no reason to trade gaudreau if you get point because gaudreau would put up at least 100 points with a true number c like point</div></div>
I'll edit that trade to sub Gourde for Cirelli. Clearly Cirelli is more valuable than I thought, which may also eliminate the need to retain. Moving Gaudreau for Konecny, essentially is intended to be a lateral move to shift some talent to the right side and balance the salary in order to have both a solid top 6 and partially replace assets lost in the TBL deal. What should the Rags add to the Bennett deal?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>flamesfan</b></div><div>Tampa declines the first trade, flames decline the philly trade, and flames decline the rangers trade</div></div>
You didn't read the description. Please elaborate. That said and considering points raised by other posters, I tend to agree with all. What do the Rags add to the deal?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rangsey</b></div><div>Tampa isn't trading their top 2 centres for cap relief. Cirelli maybe. Point no. They would move anyone else or resort to buyouts first.</div></div>
You're <em>probably</em> right and I agree that it's a huge ask. Monahan does step in as likely 1C and Tampa trades Gourde instead. That has a cascading effect on the Philly trade, clearly. The point is that Tampa is screwed without shedding some salary and everyone in the league knows it.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Rocket</b></div><div>You’re like, super undervaluing cirelli in both trades involving him. He’s a really good two way centre. He’s more valuable than monahan imo. Huge over pay by Tampa in the first trade and then a huge overpay by the flames in the second trade</div></div>
So, as above, if Gourde is inserted into both trades instead does that make the trades more equitable?
