Overpays are the name of the deadline game. Rashevsky "absolute stud"?, "pleasant surprise" or "interesting prospect" probably more fitting. Again, look at the history of deadline deals and you'll see a trend of 1st round picks in exchange for even just good players, not legendary captains, who can still score at a middle six rate, and leads the NHL in faceoff %. Here's a couple of examples...Brendan Lemieux, a 1st and a 4th for Kevin Hayes, 2018 Vegas gave up a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for Tatar. Paul Stastny for a 1st and a C prospect.

I dont think this deal is "crazy", and aging middle six Andrew Ladd got traded for a 1st and a former 1st. Crazy might be a 1st plus another pick plus an A prospect like Heinola.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tsyls</b></div><div>Lowry should be moved to 4C with a Toews acquisition.
Also, I think paying more than a 2nd or 3rd is definitely reasonable and likely. But I’m not sure they get a 23 1st for toews. Perhaps if they’d settle for 24 1st they get one. But think it’s more likely they get a nice prospect who needs a change of scenery and a 2nd. Something like Heinola and a pick, or a different prospect and a pick. Especially considering toews has full control of where he goes.
Also as for the OP, jets will have ~9 million dollars in cap space at the deadline. So if toews is acquired at 5.25, you still have just under 4 million left to make other moves.</div></div>
Good points, I agree with all of it. Jets dont have a lot of picks and may not want to move that pick, so yeah Heinola and a mid round possibly would do it. That I think is why Toews is so attractive (O'Riley if healthy as well), you can reshape several lines by adding him. That cap space is fluid and its hard to exactly predict.

Maybe, but under 30 (30 in May) past Vezina winners are rarely available on the UFA market. As well, over paying for past Vezina winners on the UFA market rarely works out as planned.

Just keep him and trade at the TDL when he's a UFA, should be able to get something for him with some retention which the Jets will be willing to do at that point.
The end of the line happened for this organization when they traded Laine, what a collosal miss by this Mackey Mouse organization.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Artman91</b></div><div>Rob Blake of the Los Angeles Kings sees this trade offer on the table. He calls Gary “Daddy” Bettman, after that phone call, Winnipeg Jets are no longer a NHL team.
We have Quick and Peterson.
The Los Angeles Kings have absolutely 0 interest. Yeah let’s give up our Best Prospect “In my Opinion” + 1st around + 2nd? How about we keep our Prospect and Picks. Maybe just maybe in 2 years if Hellubuyck becomes a UFA we might sign him and not give anything up. None the less, I trust Peterson to become more consistent.</div></div>
So this is a 2023 trade, Quick would be gone as his contract would have expired. The Kings are on the verge of making some serious noise and if Peterson has a similar season they would most likely be looking at an upgrade. Obviously a deal like this would be dependent on Helly signing long term.

Assuming PLD value increases based on an even better personal season I could see a return somewhere along those lines, Dvorak doesn't have a lot of value IMO. I could also see something else possibly added from the Jets. 2 firsts is alot, but the Florida pick would be likely bottom 5.

Deals like Mrazek and Armia would expire by the time the team was relevant, Gardiner and Klefbom expire after one season, the compensation of picks, prospects, and Puljarvi is the compensation.

There isnt much value there. Dolan is good but you could probably do better.</div></div>
From what I understand the Kings want to make some noise either in trades or the UFA market, easier to just sign a UFA, but they may not want to over pay long term and might OK with overpaying short term for Wheeler. The Jets would happily take more but I only think they get more IF they keep some salary. I don't believe they're interested in that.

Florida has real Cap issues, I don't think they'd be in on 26, and I don't the Jets are looking to retain much of any salary. He has 106 points in his past 115 games, can play on any teams top PP, still contributes at 5 on 5, and is a leader (just not the right one anymore for Wpg) there should be teams that are interested in taking ALL of his salary.

Wheeler trades

But bc he is massively overpaid at this point, he is absolutely a Cap dump
And just bc u guys are willing to dump your Captain for salary cap reasons, doesn’t mean we’d move a guy who wears an “A” for us
Sabres are still in rebuilding mode, & not spending a lot of $$$
We’ll be a “Cap floor” team again this season
So to get us to take Wheeler off your hands,
you would absolutely have to pay us
Now maybe u wouldn’t have to do that with every team,
but with the Sabres you would</div></div>
Fair, I think LA/Ducks/Flyers/Devils are more likely destinations.

Wheeler trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Buffalove</b></div><div>Sabres decline, and that’s ridiculous
We aren’t trading a guy that wears an “A” for your egregious Cap Dump
You’d have to pay us *significantly* to take Wheeler off your hands
And why would be he waive to come here anyways??</div></div>
From Frank Seravelli "The early sense is Wheeler may be willing to consider a proposed destination that also is not on his list, if it’s a proper fit for his family and career." So, who knows maybe it would be a team like Buffalo. Id disagree with him being described as a "cap dump", he's still a solid NHL player who can play on any teams PP, and contribute at 5 on 5, he has 106 points in his past 115 games. He's not ascending, but he's also not regressing at such a rate where you'd scratch him or bury him in the AHL for example....Oh, and he wears a C, not just an "A".
