Canes Fans Speak Up
Honestly, I just think it's a logjam at RHD if Chatfield is extended. Very likely Morrow makes the roster, likely on top 4, then Chatfield on 3D, and that's it.
The only thing I could see working for Necas to VAN is Petterson which was already reported and shot down. I don't know much about VAN's system to know who'd be a good fit for CAR (though I do know they've expressed interest in Hoglander for a while).

Pesce isn't playing another day for Carolina.
Staal and Burns vetoes those trades.
I do like the thought of Poitras, but Bruins will probably want a haul for him.

Necas to Utah
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BruinsWoahWoah</b></div><div>From what I have seen in the rumor mill, it sounds like Necas, Turbo, and Pesce are not coming back to Carolina. I haven't seen anything on Skjei so maybe they are choosing to retain Skjei over Necas? I think its a foregone conclusion that Pesce is gone.
Canes are definitely prioritizing Guentzel and Jarvis.</div></div>
Well now, things are more complicated. Waddell put out in his interview today that he's been talking more about bringing Nikishin over, but needs to find out what the situation is in the next few weeks. If that ends up happening, Skjei for sure is gone. If that doesn't happen, they might try to push for Skjei more. He's hoping to figure this all out before the draft.
Guentzel is priority one, Jarvis follows after.

Necas to Utah
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>habs_trade_churner_50</b></div><div>Understood, so you would get let of Skjei and Teravainen walk, and what about the rumors surrounding Pesce, do you think he will leave during free agency?</div></div>
Friedman had a report that Pesce turned down a 5x5 deal at the beginning of the offseason, which led us to try and see who we can trade him to. Nothing worked out, DeAngelo was brought in again, and that's that. Many of us assume he's gone now, especially with expectations of Morrow sliding up to his spot next year.
Teravainen, I'd love to keep around, but we'll see what he wants for a deal first. (It's already looking like Unger Sorum might be the Teravainen replacement with how well he played for us in the preseason for next year or the year after.) Skjei is the biggest worry since he'll have a ton of leverage thanks to his performances the past two seasons.

CAR wants Guentzel long term so
Why trade for Gudbranson when you can just re-sign Chatfield for that price, maybe even cheaper?

What to do
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>I think that could work, but the Jets really should look for a top 4 RHD or 2C.</div></div>
Necas is a pure center, but RBA shifted him to wing because he's not as defensive as he'd like. You got an option there.

D List
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wqrrior</b></div><div>I understand that, but this expensive cap hit is also preventing guentzel, an actual star player, from having room to come back.
I feel like moving orlov to open that gateway, then signing a 2-4m range dman who is slightly lower tier would be far more beneficial to the team. Sure the defense would be far worse, but keeping a star should always be top priority.</div></div>
There's also some big cap coming off of the forwards. Namely Teravainen. Necas (it's sort of leaning like we'll be trading him) would be gone too. I'm curious if the Canes will do something about the KK deal because that's the worst contract by far, and if you can get that off the books, then it's genius. (A buyout this offseason would mean around 850k for 12 years, but given how the cap keeps going up, that won't be a big concern). It's really just seeing what Jarvis takes, since he could get a Necas-style bridge deal.
Waddell does really well of spending to the cap creatively. We could convince Guentzel to take a small 'discount' (imagine more in the Svechnikov range), but we'll need to see how this postseason plays out.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wqrrior</b></div><div>i find it kinda crazy that canes fans would rather hang onto orlov on this contract than move it for nothing, resign guentzel and try and find a cheaper d core option. This makes perfect sense for me (tho i dont think pesce is back), but is constnatly rejected by them.
Im intrigued what blues fans think of moving that faulk contract. he might be worth something with retention, but i agree that his value is not strong at 6.5m</div></div>
Orlov is sort of the gateway we're trying to use to bring Nikishin over as quick as we can. Not to say Orlov has been bad and that's why he's been on the 3rd line, our D core is just that deep.
Pesce for sure priced himself out of here, and there's no guarantee for Skjei to resign.

Yeah, I'd agree for FUS being the most likely. I really loved Nadeau's play even from a super small sample size, he'd be next, then with Blake following.

Don't think that they'll offer Guentzel more than 9 mil per year, but we'll see.
I would love Necas for Schmaltz, but I don't think Kesselring would be a good fit. DW is going to try his best to lock Chatfield down, he's been amazing for the bottom pair, and with Morrow slotting in Pesce's spot, RHD will be a bit crowded.
Don't think we'd see a JVR or Wheeler on the team considering we have players like Nadeau, Blake, Unger Sorum that are fighting for forward spots.

Yeah let's trade the young and very good goalie to get a broken down one with very little retention.
It would have been okay to get Elvis if Andersen didn't come back from the clotting, but not at that 5 mil price tag. Tandem stays solid for another year, so there's no need for him.

Nikishin won't happen until next year. And you're pretty much expecting Morrow to be on the main team. Seeley, Fensore, Montgomery... Also wouldn't be surprised if Blake or Unger Sorum join the team too.

I think at that value, Canes would make a big push to re-sign Guentzel.
Don't need Graves for this trade. If Canes re-sign Skjei in the offseason, then there's no point in it, and if they didn't, they can look for a cheaper LD option for third line while Orlov gets bumped up to the second line.
Also, didn't MAF said he's going to retire as a Wild anyways?

What will Don Cook
I'd say Noesen should be asking for what Chatfield is getting, given how well he plugs into any line on the ice.
Tervainen might get more on the market. Don't really see a need to bring back Lorentz, even though I loved seeing him play with the Canes.

Random Idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>StDetroitBlueWings</b></div><div>Thomas won't be available. Kyrou most likely isn't available but would be more open to listening on him than Thomas. I imagine if this were a scenario to happen, Buch would have an extension in place already. KK is just a negative asset so packaging with a higher end asset in Necas for a top line guy in Buch still shouldn't be out of the question. It's not often a guy like Buch is available and it won't be cheap. Just been seeing a Necas for Buch swap before numerous times and wondered about KK since I feel he needs a change of scenery and could fill the Blues void in a decent 3C role (possibly move to 2C if desperate enough before Dvorsky is ready).</div></div>
I could agree on that, Buch would definitely need an extension for that kind of trade. I'm probably just looking at things a bit differently. Then again, I guess it's all just how GMDW does his trades.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>StDetroitBlueWings</b></div><div>Not saying Necas is the add in this situation at all if that's what you're interpreting</div></div>
I probably interpreted it differently, yeah. Thing is, I don't see the Canes offering Necas for anyone unless it's for big names (Petterson, Tkachuk, etc.). Only players that could even come close to something like that on the Blues roster would be Kyrou or Thomas, and that'd be a completely different discussion.
