Both sides have already agreed that it's time to move on and they have been trying to trade Boeser for a while now (no takers so far), but if you mean that a trade might be imminent now, maybe.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FilthyMitts05</b></div><div>Your 100% correct. Horvat extension would be super difficult. Im just not sure Oilers could be able to move Barrie without giving up a first round pick. Barrie has also had a great season with the Oilers this year which is being over looked because of his contract and the fact that hes been terrible the last two seasons. Ceci brings more value to the table and would maybe imo be a valueable peice for Vancouver to get out of a Horvat deal. Also I think Shenn could replace Cecis play for much cheaper. Also Bo Horvat is great on both ends of the ice which the Oilers desperatly need and I would be willing to slightly downgrade on ceci to get that.</div></div>
There lies the problem, Barrie has good (offensive) numbers so the Oilers aren't going to add a sweetener to dump him during the season (especially not a first), and Vancouver is trying to shed cap so won't take him on if they don't want him. As for Ceci, the Canucks can use him, but the Oilers aren't looking to move him, adding Horvat and Schenn isn't going to change that. Schenn is likely going to be a rental and they can't afford a slight downgrade when they need an upgrade on the D-Zone. If they are going to give up a ton of assets for Horvat and also get penalized by having to give up Ceci (a player they want), they are better off pursuing a defender that they need, rather than a forward who they will need to pay (in assets and money).

I don't see how Edmonton would be able to sign Horvat to a long-term deal unless he's willing to take an RNH-type discount, but it probably starts with trading Barrie instead of Ceci. Barrie isn't the type of defender that Vancouver needs, but Edmonton needs to add to their defence as is, so they aren't going to get rid of Ceci who they consider one of their better defenders and who is also cheaper. So, there might not be a fit here in terms of trading or perhaps there will just be more bald/balding Vancouver fans in the near future.

Signing Miller instead of Horvat is going to age horribly and will be one of the main reasons Van continues to be MID for years to come

They trade Dobson and they go into next season with Ryan Pulock & Grant Hutton as the only RHD in the organization with NHL experience. It's like fixing one hole in a sinking ship by blasting a hole on the other side.

Last reported, it was two firsts or a first and a prospect/young roster player, plus minor pieces on both sides as needed based on expected draft position and/or player/prospect quality.

Salary moves can be made to create room(foegele, puju, ryan, etc.)
I think toews is worth more due to experience, chances of a bargin deal when he resigns somewhere (higher odds to be edmonton), ppg and defensive play. Also dumping puju costs a little more
Garland still has 4 years left on the deal and could be in buyout territory if he doesn't improve by the end of next year so getting him for cheap then letting him develop in that edmonton top 6 could be a safe risk

Like these moves. Still think the oilers need a b6 pk specialist C. Honestly Id prefer bjugstad over fischer. Most defensively sound 5v5 and great penalty killer on a real bad team with not support.
Low key schenn a great, cost-effective add. Got exp in a top 4 role that's a legit shutdown guy.

If Florida is trading Sam Bennett, It's to open up cap space. not take on a slightly more expensive contract in Sam Girard.</div></div>
I explained the J Toews contract in the description, but we really dont know what kind of deal he will be looking for. Hes made $110M+ already so maybe he just signs with whichever team he thinks is the best fit or maybe he tries to maximize his earnings, idk what his priorities are
Its not much of a cap difference between Bennett and Girard and the trade is in the offseason with a cap increase. I think the position swap from C to LD is a big reason for FLA to do this after losing Weegar

There was literally an athletic article the other day saying toews probably will have yo look for a 2m aav contract that’s incentive bonus heavy next year bc what they are hearing it’s unlikely he gets a big pay day again

Here's what I think.
The 2nd cancels out Barrie.
Puljujärvi has almost no value.
So, it would basically be Bourgault for Edmundson and Monahan with 50% retained.
Montreal would maybe (actually probably) have to give up more in that deal.

It is. I think why Montreal would have to give up more though is because Edmundson is worth about a 2nd and Monahan is on a expiring deal. Bourgault is a first round pick and a great prospect.

That's what negotiation is all about. Both teams present their case and work to the middle.
It's also something we rarely see on this website. I credit the detroit fans for being willing to offer suggestions rather than just outright shutting down the offers like 99% of the other posts on here.

Interesting. I think the Habs with their depth right now are looking for Quality over Quantity. I don't think this is a bad deal after looking at it more closely, but I think the Habs would prefer to get 1 strong asset back as opposed to several OK ones.
Anyway, as I posted, EDM is not scouting the Habs so it's not gonna happen.
