I think if the Flames are chasing it then it would be Newhook as well but the Flames add a second or B prospect. If the Avs are then they likely overpay and Newhook is comparatively 'easy' to part with if he's being replaced as the 2C by Lindholm. So I took the latter as being fair allowing for my Avs bias lol.

He was playing his off side most of that year, so he may be better on the right than the left.
Brannstrom, Grieg, 1st gets me thinking. Honestly though, I don't think they trade him at this time.

Not too bad. Grieg instead of Formenton a deal breaker for you? And regardless of your answer to the first question, how protected are we talking? I think having a 2023 pick would be pretty important. Top 5? Top 10?

Colorado has no use for draft picks at this point in their contention window. While Girard makes a TON of sense for Ott, I'm not sure Ott has anything that really makes sense for Colorado atm, which would have to be an NHL ready 2c that is cost controlled. Pinto isn't quite there.

colorado isn't going to move their first to retain 2mil. The only reason we'd move johnson is to make cap space, it defeats the purpose if we're going to eat 1/3 of his contract

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Foppa21</b></div><div>Marino's a good defenseman, but I don't think he and Girard are on the same level. Possession metrics are night and day between the two. As for Ottawa not biting, that's fine, but that's the price in my mind. Whereas Pittsburgh had to move a defenseman, the Avs have no need to deal Girard and could look to deal Compher to clear space instead.</div></div>
maybe you change the 2nd to a 3rd but i think I'm on point, ottawa cannot go into a season they want to compete for a cup with holden, hamonic and zaitzev. they need experience and skill. I live in ottawa but not a fan, they cn have JBD coming up but not very experianced, sanderson will be amazing but no experiance, zub and chabot are solid. Branstrom is better defensively now but inconsistent. I think girand is ideal. and better than what they have in the pipe except sanderson who has a higher ceiling but if you are looking for a stop gap in ottawa then all the power to you.
I would love to see montreal trade riley kidney or other prospect, florida 1st,2nd for girard but we dont have the room on the books unless we can trade a defenseman and price is ltir

MTL-WPG-COL 3 way trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Foppa21</b></div><div>Byram's health, while appearing to be improving, is still a question mark IMO. Keeping Girard, while a luxury, gives them an insurance policy. Not saying I would keep him, but there is rationale there. As for dealing him, it's definitely possible, but it's going to be expensive. He's signed to a team-friendly deal for the next five years, so Dvorak and a 2nd isn't going to cut it.</div></div>
Never said it would cut anything. I just said Girard is a tradeable asset.

The only reason Colorado considers moving Girard is to clear space to resign Kadri so they are not taking any salary back. So take out Dvorak and add the Florida 1st at least.

Both of those deals feel like desperation moves for the Avs. Habs accept because they fleeced you, Knights decline because they can afford that; they're in a tight spot except they can exceed the cap by the $7.8M Weber LTIR contract. They still have Kolesar, Roy and Hague to sign but they'll probably just dump another contract (bye-bye, Alec Martinez) to make it work.

A couple of Girard to the Isles trades this am already! Unless Lou and Sakic have switched seats, I can't imagine the Avs doing you a major favour like this...Girard was playing almost 22 minutes a night last year, and is on a great deal for 5 more years...if they move him, I've gotta imagine it's not going to be cheap.

Major no for Colorado. Avs aren’t giving up a 24 year old top defenseman with term and a 21 year old NHL C on his ELC for a 1 year Miller rental and a cap dump.

CF cracks me up sometimes. Girard a 24yr old top pairing capable dman (whom you installed in the top pairing) locked up for half a decade, a really good 21yr old future 2C and a good young prospect for one year of a 29yr old guy that ends up being the 4th best forward in the Avs. The Avs don’t want Miller. Hard fast and ruthless no.

So Girard plus for Drouin? Avs wouldn't do that if Drouin's cap hit was negative 1.375M. That's terrible for Colorado.

Maybe a more nhl ready prospect but def would have to be ELC as it’s the only way to get Kadri
