Lundell for Byram - who says no
Avs say no for sure imo. Byram is just too perfect a fit for their team both on the ice and for future roster building purposes. Plus they have Newhook, who almost certainly won't be as good as Lundell, but still has 2C potential. They also have their 1st round picks.
Panthers might say no too, but it's closer for them (imo) since they have forward depth but are lacking on D (with nothing in the pipe either).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Foppa21</b></div><div>That's fair. Though as a 2C, I don't know if I see Bennett as "proven." He had a great year, no doubt, but can he do it again? Same question obviously holds for Kadri given his past year, but for a team like the Avs that'll be up against the cap for the next 5-6 years, that's a really important decision to make as it could be make or break</div></div>
Yeah, Bennett has played a total of 81 games as a top6 center. He played with great teammates but that's something he'd get in the Avs, as well. Bennett is a bit of a risk, but I'd consider it as his cap hit could be half of Kadri's. The Panthers would probably have to add a prospect of some kind as a sweetener to a Bennett-Girard deal, though.

you have to think colorado passes on any cap retention since they're cap strapped currently and will be even more next year

Yes but that was before he played in Montreal and the whole world thought ARI was the problem and not the player, but it turns out 4.5ish million for a bottom 6 C is not a good contract

Byram is great and deserves a spot on the top 4 and on the pp, right next to Manson... Unless you want him to stall on the 3rd pairing.
That would leave Girard and Johnson on the bottom pair. Im sure you dont want a 2nd pairing guy getting paid 5mil aav on your 3rd pairing, that waisted money and value.</div></div>
it's not ideal but if dvorak is the alternative then yes, much rather have girard.

In a world where Bjorkstrand gets traded for a third and fourth, Dvorak bringing back Girard is pretty wishful thinking.
If the Habs want to shed his salary, they'll just have to cut their losses and take less than what they paid for him (perhaps a lot less).

Yeah because what COL is going to do is trade a stud 21 yr old dman, a 21yr old future 2C and a 1st for a 29yr old rental and 27yr old pending UFA. COL counters with Helm & Cogliano for Podkolzin, Hoglander and a 23 1st.

Nobody is giving up a first for Drouin and probably not a 2nd either. Dadonov certainly does not get a first considering he’s been cap dumped twice in the past year. Byron is a cap dump. Allen is worth more

Marin Kaut is 22 and hasn't made the NHL yet. 1st will be late too. This doesn't do it for Horvat because it doesn't fit our needs at all. If u want Horvat ur sending us Newhook or Byram and a 1st since we can sign him next year and there's no pressure to move him. You could try and get Miller without paying as much since he is older and maybe we cant sign him, but u won't be able to sign him either so its a pure rental. But the avs roster would be really good with miller at 2C. It would probably be worth it to get Miller cause avs will probably win the cup again and then new hook will be ready for 2C the year after</div></div>
There is no chance we’d get Byram, let alone Byram and a 1st. I could maybe see Newhook getting moved but even that seems unlikely. Canucks and Avs aren’t really good trade partners after the Avs moved Barron/Helleson though

Nathans 2023 Canucks
Ah yes the Avs trade a 21yr old top pairing dman on an elc, a 21yr old potential 2C on an ELC and a dman that is a locker room leader, for a rental forward who would only be the 4th best forward on the Avs, a small forward that MacKinnon hates (I’ll refer you to the helmet throwing incident and something that happened a long time ago), a guy on LTIR, a meh prospect and a 2nd oh and let’s not forget over $11M in cap space coming to the Avs while only $8M comes off. The minute Byram is mentioned the talks are over, the minute both Byram and Newhook are mentioned the laughing starts.

Tkachuk doesnt work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Foppa21</b></div><div>Fair enough. Again, not arguing that Lindholm isn't a great player here, just saying that he's the type of player I'd be targeting in a Girard trade. If it's futures, then it better be some solid pieces. In my own opinion, I think that Girard is consistently underrated among defensemen, yet everyone seems to want him for peanuts. Hopefully that helps you understand where myself and other Avs fans are coming from.</div></div>
Yeah I’d agree that he’s underrated, but I think that’s because Byram seems to be better than him now, so people see Girard get pushed down to the 3rd pair and value him as a 3rd pair guy, which isn’t fair. I’m not sold that he’s a true first pair guy either though, despite an amazing 20-21, because he regressed significantly this year (especially defensively, but he also put up fewer points in 67 games last year than he did the year before in 48 games). I do understand that some of that was playing with Jack Johnson though, so I think calling him a good #3 on a solid contract is fair.
