Is there any money for Naz

Created by: rookescr96
Team: 2022-23 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 25, 2022
Published: Jul. 25, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
next year Johnson is off the books but all of that 6 mil will go to Mackinnon.

Biggest players to resign are Byram and Newhook, with Compher's 3.5 mill coming off the books.

So 900K cap space rn + 3.5 mil from compher + 1.5 mil cap increase = 5.9 mil for both of them, roughly 3 mill each.

Might be able to get it done?

If we trade Girard, it will be for a middle 6 forward with controlled cost, think Anthony Beauvillier.

The real question is do you want Nazem Kadri at 7M for 7 years? For a guy with 1 career year turning 32 this season, I wouldn't want to be a fan of the team that signs it IMO

Ooph, this is on par with Canadiens fans' proposals, which is saying something. This is a hang up the phone laughing scenario

Yeah, uh, Wings will take that all day. Girard is worth at minimum a 1st round pick plus a decent NHL player or prospect.

I agree that Girard is worth way more than a third round pick. But look at how hard it is to move money around today. Very similar to the Bjorstrand trade, only so many teams would have the money to bring in Girards full ticket and not have Colorado taking back another contract. Plus if kadri is on a tight deadline for whether he signs elsewhere then I think Sakic would be very wise to make the trade.

Basically giving up Girard for Kadri and a third

Except a deal like that would need the Av's to take back a player to make money work out. No non playoff team is giving up a first for Girard and none of the contenders have cap space to add a $5 million player. So Sakic would move Girards full contract out for a pick and not have to worry about taking back a $3 million player

What about one of these guys and a 2nd: Zadina, Fabbri, Veleno or Suter?

I do agree a 1st from a non-playoff team is too much and probably won't happen. But a single 3rd isn't close to enough.

I follow, but if that's the market then you're basically giving away a quality player for nothing (a la what we say happen with Bjorkstrand). And if that's the case, then I'm not trading Girard. It's as simple as that.

I admittedly don’t watch the Red Wings, so would you be so kind as to indulge me as to which one of them is the best skater?

I considered Fabbri, but after another ACL injury, it made it easier to go with Joseph.

Well he is a good skater. It depends on if they want some one who can step in and play right away or if they don't mind letting Veleno develop a little more.

I mean in this day and age, you can assume a guy comes back with the same legs off of an ACL injury but you’d imagine being a second ACL and older, perhaps he isn’t the exact skater he was before.
