Way too much term. He’s 35. Would’ve been excellent 5 years ago

There is a chasm between how fans value most players and how GMs value those same players, and that has never been more apparent than this offseason.

If the Rangers had more cap space I could've seen him getting 2x1.5M or 3x2-2.5M, but this is pretty much all they could afford as it stands now. Tony D hopefully signs soon too

Not long ago, players like Lemieux would have been guaranteed a pay raise. Until the new NHL...with premium players getting a bigger piece of the cap, players like Lemieux are getting squeezed.
Interesting how the NHLPA with the majority of it's members mid to bottom end players, adjust to the new pay structure of their members.

New York Rangers signed Brendan Lemieux (1 Year / $925,000 AAV)
thank god they signed a realistic deal and not the one like with Spooner two years ago. He has now the time to show he is valuable to the team for next year signing. I believe he could be a great 4th liner and successful teams need good 4th lines. Even if I am not an Islander fan I always liked their 4th line of Martin, Cizikas, Clutterbuck (they were much cheaper in 2016) and they were a lot of fun. Lemieux, Fast and Lias could be a good combo.

Nice move from the Isles. Low risk signature. Brassard still has good hockey in him and he can take a good leader role for the young guys there.

Anaheim Ducks signed Ryan Miller (1 Year / $2,325,000 AAV)
He could have definitely received more on the open market, with a lot of teams looking for Top-2 goalie help. At this stage of his career, not having to move is worth a lot and it allows Anaheim to carry a 3rd goalie in the event of injury with minimal cap repurcussions.

You'd rather have a goalie with all of 5 games of NHL experience over a former Vezina winner on a 1-year deal at a low rate?

Detroit Red Wings signed Jimmy Howard (1 Year / $5,100,000 AAV)
Howard has been great with a terrible team in front of him. Kinda surprised he didn't get 2 or 3 years, but this is a good signing for the Wings. Once Zetterberg and Franzen go on LTIR next year they have tons of cap space.

(TOR/LAK) - Grundström, Durzi and 2019 1st round pick for Muzzin
It's all about the variable.
Does Toronto win the cup?
If they don't this is a lot of future to trade for a 29 YO LHD with 2 years left on his contract. LA wins
If they win the cup, who cares what trades they make. TOR Wins
It's all about that variant. I don't see how this trade makes them better than TB though

(CAR/MIN) - Rask for Niederreiter
I don't see this trade as lopsided as others.
Over the last 3 years...
Nino - 227 GP / 63G / 69A / 0.58 PGP
Rask - 233 GP / 51G / 73A / 0.53 PGP
Production is roughly the same. Rask plays a premium position and is solid in the dot at a career 51.1% FO win. I'd say it's a pretty even deal.
