Is Dermott ready though? Too inconsistent. If we want to take a good run at it next year we gotta go all in and I think this does that. Reilly is at his best playing no more than 21-22minutes. Muzzin will get ice, especially PK.
Since I added a signing from UFA in pavelski who'd add playoff experience and goal scoring. I've noticed having cap flexibility holds no merit on here so this shows what kind of player we could bring in for the run at the deadline or UFA.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jack_</b></div><div>and now the 3rd line wouldnt be that good. I have no idea why anyone would have muzzin as 3LD. its a stretch to say they need to even make one of these trades</div></div>
I gotta disagree. Coleman is a sparkplug that PK's and scored 22 goals last year. If you want to switch moore and johnsson then that second and third line still looks good. If we can't come to terms with Marner and have to look for a trade, you gotta look at value and not just RHD. Then you end up in a Hall for Larsson situation. Those 6 D are way better than our D last year, Babcock will find ice for the D that are going.
Cap flexibility going forward at the deadline or for a free agent signing is an asset also.

Leaf My take
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dzad96</b></div><div>My point exactly. Honestly bring back Hainsey for 1-2 mil on the third pair to play with Dermott and that D looks pretty good. Average NHL defense. Somewhere in the 10-15 range if you were to rank team D cores IMO.</div></div>
I think 10-15 defense would be great with a top-5 offense. I'd take that team going into the playoffs.

Leaf My take
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dzad96</b></div><div>That D is hardly better. Niskanen is barely any better than Gardiner IMO. Miller is an upgrade on Zaitsev for sure. And there's absolutely no way you can call Justin Holl a top 6 defenseman, if he plays more than 5 games next year the Leafs have major problems.</div></div>
100% agree with the Justin Holl comment. However, if we get a right-handed jake gardiner it'd would greatly improve our defense. I think that top-4 is a lot better than last year but please don't pencil in Holl as a starting dman. That proposed defense overall is worse than last year just because you'd have to play holl a regular shift.

I don't think that's huge in Toronto's favour. Benning is a bottom pair dman and they were big on Brown. As for the Montreal trade.. Whether Edm gets a 4th or 6th, doesn't really matter to say is a brutal trade. If that goes through nobody blinks an eye at it. Little dramatic at the small deals but I respect it if you don't like it.

To add to this comment... Really don't think Van is in a situation to take on Backes either but a different team may. Yeah that would be a scary top 3 lines for that matter.

Since I feel like that's more than what the value will be coming back for Kessel, I'd take a flier on Jarry and hope he turns up his game with the current goalie situation in CGY. I wouldn't be confident in Rittich holding the fort even though he had a real good year last year. Jarry and Rittich may be a tandem to get it done with that offense and a solid d.

A Necas trade begins with Johnsson + Kapanen + 1st. You might think that is ridiculous, but just remember there are two teams that have to agree. Necas is in the same tier of players for the Canes which I’d consider as close to off limits as it gets (Aho, Slavin, Svechnikov, Necas)</div></div>
Ya I wasn't sure about where his value was at and didn't feel like looking up where he was drafted, stats etc. He's going to be a good player for you guys from what I saw him playing against the marlies. Fair enough.

Deangelo and Necas
I'm honestly not a fan of Borgman nor holl. I think they will both be career 7th dmen/AHL players so our D would be very thin. I like the Deangelo option, good mobile guy that could chip in offensively and RHD.
I really like Necas, I think Carolina has high hopes for him so I'm not sure if they entertain the offer? I think the value is there though.

A lot goes into this comment... Do you sell low on Johnsson or Kapanen because your scared of playing a game with 17 skaters? I don't think so. If a guy goes down with an injury and is expected to miss a few games then you put him on IR and use an emergency recall. In the cap squeeze the leafs are in I wouldn't sacrifice players as cap casualties just because I want 2 players sitting in the press box every game. There is no league penalties for having an Active Roster of 20 players (includes 2 goalie) and then someone getting injured or sick and having to ice 17 skaters. This is up for debate and personal opinions for sure but this is my two-cents.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>Till someone gets hurt... or the flu.. then you’re ****ed...</div></div>
Ya Leafs have a luxury of having the Marlies playing down the street from them. They'd have to be careful in being ahead of the game and using emergency call-ups. I could see this being an option for them instead of giving away assets out of fear that they might have to play a game or two down a man or having an emergency call cup headache.
Even if the guy gets the flu or something last minute.. they can still list him on the roster but not dress him. They wont be penalized by the league or anything.

I disagree. I think his stats are deflated a bit from playing in roles behind matthews and tavares. I could see is value trending downward on the leafs with his role being what it is.
I think now is the time to trade him with his value still holding a bit. Teams might start to think its a greater risk trading for him after another down year when I really think its role based. I get what your saying I just don't see it rebounding much and it being more harm to hold onto him rather than using his value at what it is and getting some cap relief and assets back.

Right but I wouldn't go out and get one for the sake of getting one if one isn't available. Philly is in real need of bolstering their depth forwards and they have a surplus of defense. I think Ghost could be had and is on a good contract. I believe he played part of year on his off side too before Myers got called up. Also gives an extra year for liljigren to develop and gives us leverage in resigning Muzzin if he's asking too much.
I could see Leafs and Philly being trade partners for a deal like this.

I wouldn't add on a Nylander - Anderson deal. Nylander has a higher ceiling than him. I would like a player that plays the style Anderson plays but not at the expense of nylander. I get that in this situation we'd be in a crunch to shed some salary so I see why you did that.
I'm kind of over the Polak era in Toronto. He's just too slow and would be more open to resigning hainsey than Polak.

Why is this a common post on a roster that is 21 players? The roster max is 23 and the minimum is 20. Your roster is eligible if your between 20-23 players.

I do think that your off on Provorov's deal by around 2 million and I don't think you should do a 4 year deal bringing him to UFA but I think your value is in the ball park with picks evening things out in the MTL trade. I like the idea. It'd be quite the shakeup.
