I really dont see this happening but a sign and trade

Gotta agree with you here and your position on this in this thread. I like how this would be able to keep his AAV lower with being able to sign him that extra year, if St. Louis would throw in Barbashev to help with us dealing kerfoot or another depth player. I think this is a brainer. Saving 1 mill+ on the AAV on our cap strapped team is arguably more valuable than a mid first round pick. I like this proposal.

I think Hoffman is a no brainer in EDM. I say he puts up 40 on a line with McDavid.

If this team could trade for keeping players healthy, they'd be contenders for the foreseeable future.

I'm not saying Buffalo would do this deal as I don't think there would be interesting in moving down that far unless Andersen has an extension in place. But, Kerfoot would have more value than Staal who will most definitely leave/retire after the year in Buffalo. I really don't think Kerfoot has negative value as some suggest, not high value but more value than a guy who's leaving after the year playing on a non-contending team.

Doesn't get you Anderson and I would like to think there would be better options for a marner trade. I wouldn't trade him unless a top 2 dman is coming back preferably RHD.

Agree, but really like the team. Top 4 D are on good contracts with term besides really Reilly. I like the idea of the marner trade in this proposal.

I think its worth taking a run and overpaying a bit for a 2x stanley cup champion that you can keep and afford longer than Freddie. Pit needs a 3rd line center, I think kerfoot would be a good fit there. Even if its only one second, I'd like the Murray acqusition.

What do you think
If we make a trade like that for Severson, which I think is a decent package that would make Jersey consider - May have to be Kapanen, Dermott, Bracco - but then why deal Barrie? I like the looks of Lilly but are you comfortable at this point with a Sandin - Lilly pairing making a run in the playoffs? and if theres an injury, relying on Marincin?
I think if we squeezed into the playoffs this year, giving our team the best chance to steal a playoff series against Boston/Tampa (Presumably) is more valuable than a late first round pick when our window for the cup is more of a 2-3 year window. Just my thoughts.

Ignoring the trade... Murray has arbitration rights and won't sign a deal less than his 3.75 million. I still think he's worth more than 3 million too so that'd be a big discount.

Unfortunately I think this team looks okay on paper but just too many declining players. If Carter and Kovalchuk were 10 years younger, absolutely.

Definitely think that winnipeg trade is not fair value for EDM. Gotta think they can get way more than that. Copp shouldn't be in a top 6 and if he is then thats a major red flag.

Definitely think that the organization is in too fragile of a state to trade 4 first round picks as a hail mary to get another cup. They can compete for one with the 4 first round picks. Doing this will mean they can be in an ugly state in 3 years if they don't get a cup with this roster and having nothing in the cupboard rebuilding.

Please no Marincin. Also, not in favour of trading Nylander when his value is low. I'd try him along side Matthews for a year and getting his value up. Getting him back to form means more to the team than his cap space and future assets do.
Also, if a Stanley Cup is the goal in the next 1-3 years, signing Mitch to a shorter term deal at a less cap hit than 11 mill and having the cap flexibility for deadline acquisitions going into the playoffs is more favourable to the team than ensuring he is with the team long term. I think a 3-6 year deal for equal to or less than 10 would be more ideal for both sides.

I do think that it doesn't substantially decrease a Dman's abilities playing on their off side but having a team full of LHD and no right-handed option may be problematic.

Interesting thought bringing back Phaneuf. If I remember correctly he's typically more comfortable on the right side? Could be wrong though.
Coming from a Leafs fan, I wouldnt mind bringing him in on a cheap "find your game" contract to play the right side. Brings some toughness to the blueline and I'm sure he's worth 1-3 million still with the proper expectations.

IMO, that package is too good to pass up. Hall only gets that package now and not during the season as a pending UFA. Jersey can not risk losing him for nothing at this stage of the rebuild and if your getting Hughes - the 3rd overall and Boqvist... way too good to say no from a Jersey standpoint.
If this deal is on the table and Jersey passes it up and Hall walks in the offseason, it severely sets them back to being a cup contender.
Hughes looks legit, he's ready now. It's one step back this year and 6 steps forward next.

I think this is creative. Depending on how the Jets view Zaitsev they might jump on that. Get a downgrade but a serviceable player to log 18-20min to replace Trouba, add some proven speed and depth up front and a high draft pick.
LA will probably look to unload Martinez and have some cap room now that they bought out Phaneuf, they tolerate 1 year of marleau and add some very much needed speed and scoring up front.
I think this is realistic value-wise.

I don't understand how that defense led them to the lowest GA in the league last year. Just shows how good Trotz is. Any other team I'd say no cup without better D but did they ever show otherwise this year.

Just curious, is that where you see Tanev on the depth chart? If it is, why hand him a $3m deal for 4 years and not let him walk so you can use that cap flexibility elsewhere. Kind of a risk at 3 mill for a 30 point player. Love the way he plays but I'm not so sold on him potting 15 goals every year. I'd hand him a 2-3 year deal between 2-3 mill and see what they get outta him.

Kadri LW
I dont mind moving Kadri over to the wing, or even Matthews for that matter. I really think Boyle is past the point of being a 3C though. I'd rather take a stab at a Filppula-type player who'd be more of use on the 3C but cost similiar. Like the idea.
