Naz and Kapi Trades
I think with Marleau's iron man streak and the respect for him and the career he has, Babcock doesn't scratch him. He'll play fourth line minutes if hes struggling but never taken out of the lineup. As much as he has struggled and better off we'd probably be if we let a young guy take his spot, I agree with playing him until he says he can't go this season.

His defensive play is a lot better this year under Keefe but its definitely not his strong suit. And I think its two opinions going back and forth here, I like his promise and his progression but you can't project him as a top pair guy in the NHL. I don't know what we're arguing here, I agree that he's been really good in the Marlies and his game is progressing and he's making strides with better decisions and less high-risk plays but that is the knock on his game. Here's an article with video's showing it after the first 18 months.
<a href="https://mapleleafshotstove.com/2018/11/29/timothy-liljegren-evaluating-his-development-18-months-after-his-draft-selection/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://mapleleafshotstove.com/2018/11/29/timothy-liljegren-evaluating-his-development-18-months-after-his-draft-selection/</a>
Rookie mistakes sure and progressing well to eliminate them, but nonetheless still has been his downfall and you saw a few shifts with bad giveaways and bad decisions in the last playoff series too even though he's been very good for us overall in the playoffs. You're not showing well here.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>Okay you aren't showing well here. Liljegren had mono in his draft year. He has never had a serious leg injury. Also being a top blueliner in the AHL at 20 could absolutely translate to big minutes at the NHL level. He was drafted with the hopes of being a top offensive defenceman but so far he's developed into a smooth skating defensively sound puck mover. He could absolutely still become an offensive force, especially with the big clubs skill but if he's a smart defensive guy who can skate the puck out of trouble and get the puck safely to the skilled forwards, that is pretty much all you need for Rielly's partner.</div></div>
My bad it was mono his draft year, I got it mixed up because he missed a handful of games with a high ankle sprain this season and it has been his second one since he's been drafted which raised concerns. "Not showing well" lol because I, off the top of my head, got something mixed up... c'mon now.
I stated above that he's a promising prospect and projected a 3-6 dman with upside. His decision making and high-risk plays is his downfall which raises concerns at the NHL level. I agree with what your saying, but you can't say he's a top 2 dman because he'd look good paired with Reilly. I'm high on him but I really don't see him becoming a top 2 dman. He's like a RH Gardiner (which seriously, I'd be thrilled if he turned into).

I'd say next year he'll get a taste and then the year after. With his upside and being a RHD, you cant give him up for a 4th line center around the age of 30. Is the difference between Gauthier and Glendening the difference between beating the Bruins when they play 8min a night? highly unlikely.

Watch a Marlies game these playoffs, Sandin-Liljegren is the top d-pair playing big minutes. He may not be the top dman they were hoping since he had the series leg injury in his draft year but he's looking NHL caliber and could look to make a jump as early as next season. I believe he'll be a bottom 4 dman.

There are so many other variables that contributes to a value of contract. "Looking better" is definitely not something they consider. Position, potential, goal-scoring ability, leadership, statistics all play a part. Ability to play on the PK and produce that many points (with consideration of playing with Tavares) will contribute to the salary he will get which will be compared to other players around the league at his position. I estimate 10m give or take 500k with correlation to term given.

Agreed and signing a coveted player oversea's and then immediately using his value and interest for trade purposes really hurts the reputation and the ability to recruit future free agents in other hockey markets. There are other players on the Leafs that hold similiar value as of right now that you'd be better off including in a trade that would be less harmful to the organization.

I'd say Leafs take it but its not as lob sided as your suggesting. Nylander could easily return to form and be a 65-75 point player with even more upside. Dobson, of course a very promising blue chip prospect is still a risk of not panning out. This trade could easily go the other way and be one of the worst trades for the leafs if Kadri also puts up 20+ goals next year and Dobson doesn't pan out. Then it'd be Mayfield (more of a bottom 4 RHD) and clutterbuck for Kadri and Nylander.
In terms of value, the Leafs are on the better receiving side but are taking the most risk IMO.

Last Leafs Roster Attempt until Draft
I like the different take without trading Marleau or Zaitsev. I think the values fair in these trades and upgrades our right side nice enough. With Dermott's injury we can take a look at Sandin/Rosen to start the year and see what we have going forward. I don't think the Marner deal will get much heat if any because in this scenario, even if its 10 mill for 5 years which I think would satisfy marner's camp, it still works cap wise. I'd even look at 10-10.5 for 7 or 8 years with him and go with a 20-21 man roster to get compliant. We'd have room next year to resign muzzin and dermott with Marleau's hit off the books and cap inflation with nobody else due for for big raises.

Interesting take on the NJD deal. I agree with PMwalker that it may take that.
I don't think dealing Hyman for Shaw would be a big enough upgrade to make it worth the extra cap hit in our situation. I'd stick with the status quo.

Trades with leafs and wild Fair value
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgmilazz</b></div><div>I wouldn't sweeten the pot for Kap beyond Mayfield. If I am Lou I would sit and wait to see how the Leafs situation plays out. If you guys are having a real hard time signing Mitch Dubas might just bite due to Mayfields contract. I think this deal could work but it would have to be out of necessity from Dubas.
Question for you, how would you rank Kapanen, Johnsson, Nylander?</div></div>
I definitely wouldn't blame you on holding off and possibly getting a better bargain but I wouldn't with Isles defensive depth.. that trade could be a steal for them especially with Mayfield's value/performance possibly inflated playing in Trotz's system.
I think you gotta go based on potential and the fact that Nylander has 2 60+ point seasons. From a Leafs perspective his value will never be as low as it is now. He's killing it in World's right now which may show that his poor productiveness was circumstantial based.
1) Nylander (By a big margin)
2) Kapanen (Slightly more valuable based on offensive upside)
3) Johnsson

I'm not saying it was a bad proposal or we wouldn't be interested. If i were Dubas I would hold off on that trade and would only do it if:
1) Were not able to talk Marner down and need to shed salary stat.
2) We're unable to package kap or johnsson for a better dman.
3) It's Kap for Mayfield +4th minimum.
If we could fit everyone under the cap and thats the only deal on the table I'd pass since Kap could come back to bite us with his talent. Would you bite on the counter offer if you were Isles?

I'll pass from the Leafs standpoint but I haven't watched much of Mayfield besides playoffs. I like his size/cap hit/handedness but averaging 18:44 and having alright-not great corsi stats... wouldn't give up Kapanen+ for him. I'd have to really hmm and haw on Kap straight up for him and would ask for a sweetner.

Will Floridia and Leafs make these trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMTD</b></div><div>Betterall is very methodical, he knows that Ferland had a career year and I would be shocked if he signed or traded for any marquis UFA's or players. O'Reilly stated he was not a leader and Betterall accommodated him and it appears got Montour indirectly. Kane IMO never fit into the Buffalo culture, but that is general observation. I think Betterall sees Olofsson and Thompson (see GM_leafs81 comment regarding Thompson) as second line wingers and Pilut as the 3rd LHD (no one is commenting but he may have injured very early after his call up). Reading Kruger's resume, he appears to be a motivator and I think most people would agree that was the biggest problem with Buffalo last year.
OK, as a Sabres' fan, I do not want to trade Thompson.
First, did you watch the Marlies on TV or live.
Second, I am adding you to my very short list of trusted ADGM contributors.
Third, I would do your trade. Bogosian and Zaitsev are unwanted by the teams respective fans but as you correctly observed they both can play, just not up to the fans expectations. Buffalo would be getting Kapanen who has demonstrated NHL caliper performance while the Leafs would be getting one of Buffalo's best prospects. I am old enough to remember Ray - Hannan - Presley. Ray allowed Hannan to play dirty and Presley would get the stretch passes from Hannan. Kapanen would fit perfectly with Girgenson and Larsson. They dig the pucks out of the corners and send Kapanen flying down the wing.
Fourth, maybe taking the Bruins to seven games means a little luck and Toronto would be a game away from the finals.</div></div>
I just watched it on TV. Good to hear lol.

Is Faulk enough to rejuvenate the PP? I like Dunn as a QB as well. PP has a lot to do with coaching as well, that may be an issue.
