Offseason Attempt
I find it odd you kept Laggeson over Vaakainen and Lindstrom. I would give Lindstrom a 2 year deal, make Luneau outplay him for a full time roster spot, and I would keep Vaakainen as our #7 guy. Laggeson can be kept as our #8 if you want but I wouldn't keep him on the main roster.
I'm hesitant about Montour, he had one freakish year but has otherwise been a #4 Damn his entire career, we cut him loose because he wasn't taking that next step when he was here, and I don't know that he ever did. He's always been an offensive leaning 2 way D who is adequate in their own end but not good, he's a smaller right shot Fowler. I really think we need a defensive specialist like Peace, or even Matt Roy would be a preferable pickup, to mentor and cover for the youth on the left side. I also echo Landro about letting Luneau cook in the AHL until he forces his way up. Gulls need to get good too if we want our development pipeline to be supplying us with talent for years to come.
Marchy is probably a good pickup, though I'd quibble about the lines. Terry needs to get his a$$ in gear and stop trying to force plays as the hero.

Another Montreal ACGM featuring a familiar Zegras jest and two fantasies in which Dvorak/Pezzetta and Josh Anderson get positive returns. In related news, the sun will rise in the East tomorrow . . .

We're looking for an already top 4 D to mentor our young LD, not a guy who's a long shot to turn into one, to add nothing of his lack of physical element.

You have to offer an impact piece to land Zegras
A LHD we don't have room for and the ghost of Savard ain't it chief, wheel out Reinbacher and your 2nd next year. You don't get to have your cake and eat it too, teams aren't giving you top talent for trash.

My esteemed friend has it right: Too many errors.
1. We are not buying John Gibson out.
2. Jakob Silfverberg retired from the NHL and will be playing for his club side in Sweden next season.
3. Other than possibly Lagesson and Meyers, I don't see us signing one of those UFAs.
4. Your line combinations are way off.
5. Olen Zellweger will be a regular this year.
6. Verbeek said that he will try to add a right-shot top-6 forward and right-shot top-4 defenseman this offseason, either by trade or free-agency signing, and you haven't made such an effort.

For the sake of completeness, I think that you should give us your thoughts -- if only in outline -- on what you foresee for the RFAs that you <strong>didn't</strong> sign: Lundestrom, Vaakanainen and Lindstrom. Personally, I'd keep one of the defenders just in case Luneau isn't ready for Prime Time.
I like everything else here, but my feeling is that even if we fall to fourth next Tuesday, we still have a shot at Levshunov because I can see the two teams between us and Celebrini selecting among Demidov, Lindstrom and Buium.
Go Ducks!

Offseason Attempt
Have seen a few iterations of this over the past couple of days. There’s certainly a situation in which I could see the Blues pulling the trigger on this. But it would depend on a couple of things that wouldn’t be decided until the pick comes up.
If one of Silayev, Buium, Dickinson, Levshunov, Parehk or Yakemchuk are there I can’t see them moving the pick. I could see a scenario in which the front office doesn’t love Parehk or Yakemchuk, but I doubt it.
There’s also a possibility the Blues Front office could be high on a guy that’s in the second tier and doesn’t want to take a risk.
It would take the Blues front office really liking LaCombe, and also having someone they’re pretty sure they could grab at the Edmonton pick on the backend for it to make sense.
The Blues in all reality need to extensively look at moving up to grab a guy they really like out of that first pairing but moving up isn’t always probable from 16.

Making it work
You added a lot of pieces to the Vatrano trade that from a pure value perspective would be enough. Problem is the pieces themselves:
Bourg: Wildly disappointing season. Value/interest would be really low right now
BRob: zero interest. ANA has like 6 NHL ready LHD already, 3 of them 23 or younger
Ceci: We’d take him for like a 5th if and only if we miss completely on a RHD in FA and no better trade options exist
2nd: ‘meh’, it’s a 2nd
If I’m ANA, I’d way rather just keep Vatrano and flip him at the deadline with the hope of a late first in a similar package to Henrique/Carrick this past year

Making it work
I can imagine investing a fourth in one season of Cody Ceci as a depth move if our efforts to land a top-4 RhD all fail, but we have no interest in the disappointing Bourgault or need for a sixth LD in Broberg, so we'll hang on to our 37-goal scorer, whom we might want to re-sign next summer. Plus the thought of turning him loose with McDavid and Draisaitl and becoming Zach Hyman 2.0 is too frightening to contemplate for very long.

Anaheim isn't your feeder team, you don't get to reset the clock with a Marner trade. Toronto will loose any Marner trade it executes, and loose badly.

For Niemela and two thirds you get Max Jones and Brock McGinn, not Trevor Zegras.
Tell me what value that Dallas third (can't be earlier than 92) has to Anaheim when the Ducks have picks 66, 68 and 79 in front of it and pick 100 behind it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>He would be your best offensive player since Selanne, would come with a discount below 12 million and would instantly make your team jump ahead in their rebuild.
Gibson isn't worth much of anything, Zegras is a good player but will never be a 90-100 point guy and the 3rd does nothing for Toronto.
If that extension was in place you guys would be lucky to get away with only adding Zellweger and not your 2024 1st rounder. Marner is behind only Kucherov as a RW in this league, I think people forget that on this site</div></div>
He’s a pending UFA and we’re coming off a 3rd to last place finish. This was posted by a ‘Nucks fan for a reason. Unless he can be had without moving a single core piece (Leo, McT, Terry, Gauthier, Zegras, Mintyukov, Zellweger, Dostal, ‘241st) it’s an easy pass. You don’t put your future on the line with the hope that he signs an extension

We're not even giving up that, Toronto has zero leverage and Gibson isn't going to Toronto.
