Not at all, Cap space is king, especially right now. Ducks have all the leverage if a team wants to dump a bad contract
And with Hoffman, They arent going to be doing MTL any favours to bring in a guy that has been a locker room cancer in the past
Just because ANA has cap space doesnt mean they need to use any of it, the Ducks operate off an internal budget as opposed to the salary cap, and Ownership has a chance to save a bit of money the next few years before we are ready to be truly competitive again
If all it was easy to dump salary, Kerfoot, Holl, Hoffman, a BOS LD, etc all would have been moved by now by various teams

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CapMean</b></div><div>So you want a top 5 pick just to take on $4.5M in salary for the next couple years, even tho your team has trouble reaching the cap floor? Makes total sense.</div></div>
Team has already reached the cap floor, we have no reason to take a cap dump just because.
Ducks have Terry, Zegras and Drysdale all needing new deals next year, Taking bad contracts for next season is going to cost a ton to get ANA to bite
No reason for MTL to trade a first obviously, but no reason for ANA to take Hoffman for any less
That price isnt just for MTL, thats for every team in the league

Fish sticks
5 teams can realistically afford a 5M cap hit without sending cap back
Gonna take a 1st for one year, Bailey has two years left
1st+ to dump that deal, and every day we get closer to the start of the season that price goes up

Good trade on paper.
But no sense.
Why Anaheim give top 5, 1st pick for à 34 year old player ?

*At worst a 3rd liner
Hawks need to take cap back if they arent retaining so that doesnt impact the deal
the 2023 1st alone is too much for the Ducks too much to give for Kane, it makes no sense for a rebuilding team to trade for Kane, and Kane doesnt want to be in a rebuild

No reason the rebuilding Ducks give up something this substantial for 1 year of a 33 year old, regardless how good they are

No reason for the Ducks to make this trade, Hoffmans second year makes him much more expensive to dump
Ducks probably still decline if you take out Benoit and Groulx

You don't need cap space to offer sheet a player. You just need the picks.
Drysdale is from Toronto and would be more open to tendering an offer sheet with Toronto.</div></div>
Cant offersheet him to a 4-6M contract you dont have your 2024 3rd round pick
Nice try tho

Had a torn pec so shouldnt be any long term ramifications for Jones, but I still understand the underwhelming return for Beau, Though I dont think ANA would offer much if anything more

No upside for ANA here at all
Missing multiple firsts in value to ANA before you even get to what Klingberg without retention let alone with 50%

Hey, at least you're out there trying!
I once asked Lily Tomlin how she "practices" new material -- does she stand in front of a mirror? Does she try it out on friends at home?
She looked at me as if I'd farted in church and said, "I get out in front of a full house and try it out there."
