Buying Nylander

But again Toronto is looking for a defenceman to build their defence for around. Anaheim doesn’t have many guys Toronto would be interested in for that. Outside of Drysdale (doesn’t fit Treliving’s style of play), there really isn’t anyone enticing enough for Nylander’s value</div></div>
Oh really ok that's very interesting that they've called about him well I smell a 3 way deal including a defenseman going back the Leafs way then...hmm ok.

He's young, he's good, he has a reasonable contract and he plays center, I think he's from Ontario as well.

Buying Nylander
I would take strome and a first in a heartbeat for Nylander, it secures the second line center or even the third and a great addition to Tavares, Marner, Matthews, I think it's absolutely imperative that the Leafs resign Domi and Bertuzzi even though I haven't seen a game yet lol I think Nylander is actually going to fall by the waist side a bit with adding Bertuzzi and Domi
Nylander loves to hang out in California in his personal time he post it on social media from what I've heard, people are sleeping on the ducks big time they are coming up for sure that's why I also think Gibson should get his head on straight that team is getting good and I believe zegras for sure gets $8+M and I would think Nylander would love to join that team and help them big time
Overall people can complain about the Nylander discussion and talk about resigning him in Toronto but at the end of the day Toronto needs to make a big move to try and get more serious in the playoffs Nylander has been great but Marner, Matthews, Tavares, Reilly are staying put so Nylander is the sacrificial lamb and it is what it is.

Buying Nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ritzy</b></div><div>Toronto can afford to extend him, I don't see why this is an argument. His extension doesn't kick in until next year, where they currently have nearly 47M to play with.</div></div>
Have enough money currently to sign him vs realistically can afford to spend that amount on him are two very different things. Toronto's had difficulty filling out a complete 23 man roster with adequate depth for years because too much of the cap was dedicated to the core 4. That continues to be an issue if you keep Nylander near his asking price.
"We've got 47 million" ignors the fact that Matthews number isn't locked in yet, and the fact that that 47 million needs to buy, in additions to Matthews, 6 more forwards, 4 more defensemen, and a starting goalie.

Neither team accepts. Not enough for the Leafs to consider. Anaheim should be giving away much for a pending UFA.
Zegras and Terry both get more. 7 x 7 seems perfect for Terry. I would look at the Caufield extension for Zegras. But 5.5m could be fine on a 2 year deal.
Good job trying something new, but I personally don't see it for either team.
I can tell you Anaheim fans will be very happy you didn't include McTavish, like so many Leaf fans foolishly do.

Buying Nylander
To acquire him with an extension (that Toronto assumingly couldn't afford) in place and being done this season, before the TDL, I could see something near this. I think a trade would revolve around Strome, one of Ana's wing prospects like Tracey or Perrault, and a pick.
I don't see us offering a first, because as stated, few teams looks to be able to afford his salary ask, so who are we really competing with? Chicago maybe?
I could really only see this happening if Toronto completely falls apart and is in the outside looking in, I think Willy gets used as a self rental and walks as a UFA.

Treliving Has It Under Control Part 2
Why would the Preds do that? I mean what would Nylander do there? The current state is rather rebuild, so sending away one of the best of the team's young forwards paired with two high picks for someone who will be aging and decliming when the team starts to be competitive, that to ne doesn't seem like a good idea.

Novak would definitely have to be performing well again this season. He had everything go right last season. He's also an extremely late bloomer which might mean his best is yet to come, or last season is a complete anomaly.

I see this as a pass for Nashville. Thats alot to give up for a 40ish point forward that tends to get injured. I like the intangibles he brings but not that much.

So…a 1st, 4th, recent 1st and a promising D-man for Josh Anderson, whose acquisition blocks our top prospects from getting playing time <em>and </em> whose contract lasts another 4 years? Even half retained, that doesn’t make sense to me.

Teams arent scoffing at the Helle return, fans are. And that’s likely because Helle is an expiring UFA and is reportedly asking for 8-9m+ on his next contract. He shot himself and Winnipeg in the foot with that one.
Saros has two seasons left, and is arguably better than Hellebuyck. He also didn’t say anything (yet, at least) about wanting a massive paycheque for his next deal. This package is meh. Berggren is the only really exciting piece coming back. The 2026 first is irrelevant to our needs as it’s 3 draft classes away, Veleno is a 4C and Buium isn’t great, but he’s fine I guess. I don’t hold Husso having a lot of value here because he needs to come back to make it work and we’re essentially just downgrading between the pipes.
Stevie Y isn’t going to move the pieces Nashville would want in return for Saros. But, Rob Blake <em>almost</em>
did. This doesn’t work for either team.

Bergren is a fine piece coming back but the rest is meh? Yeah we’re getting a first, but it’s a first in 2026. The player we draft with that wouldn’t be playing with us until 2027 or 2028.

NSH declines. Not opposed to moving Fabbro, but it wouldn't be for another winger. NSH has plenty of wingers and wing prospects (Kemell, L'Herureux, Wood, Schaefer, Lind, Evangelista, and Tomasino). If NSH hadn't just signed Gurianov then I'd probably say deal, but there just isn't room.

A Bit of Business
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyScotty</b></div><div>How low would they go on Fabbro for a draft pick do you think? I thought about a 2nd rounder but he was a mid-first pick himself and has been a top 4 defender in the league for a number of years now. He is still under team control as an RFA as well.
I can't believe he isn't one of the most sought after trade options given his contract, being right-handed, and a good two-way player.</div></div>
There is some weird push from some NSH fans that say he isn't that good because he isn't the top D man to pair with Josi they thought he was, so some people might say a 2nd or 3rd, but realistically the lowest NSH would probably go, for a single pick, would be a high to mid 2nd round pick for Fabbro. Given where COL is likely to end up, a low first round pick is about right especially considering NSH needs to take on MacDermid to make the money work. As you said, he is a really solid 2-way D who is top 4 for most teams. NSH has just been blessed to be a D production powerhouse over the last 10-15 years and fans have grown accustom to it.

Alexandre Carrier is another option from Nashville. He’d probably only cost a 2nd, and I think he’s of a similar caliber as Fabbro — albeit with a lower ceiling. Perhaps more importantly, he’s got the same cap hit.
