-That Vancouver trade is so incredibly lopsided. Garland is good, and I think you could work a trade out based on Garland for Beauvillier with some tweaks, but throwing retention on Beau, a 3rd rounder, AND Adam Pelech? No way, insane overpay for an okay player.

-The Vegas trade comes back to reality a little I guess, but it probably doesn't work. Varlamov upgrades Brossoit and gives them insurance for Lehner, and the supposed ask for him has been a 1st. Parise has been hot (6-11-17 in 23 games in the new year) and has made himself an attractive trade candidate. I think in a vacuum you can make this trade, but with Vegas trying to push for a Cup this year I don't think they get rid of Alec Martinez (he's supposedly close to coming back). Maybe something like this works in the offseason? I dunno.

-That Mayfield day is just silly. They don't need to trade Scott because he's got another year at a good contract. If someone wants him, they've got to bowl Lou Lamoriello over. A 7th D, a 13th forward, and next year's 2nd doesn't do that. Chara is a throw in but you could probably get something in the 4-6 round range if you trade him by himself anyways.

-Bailey is NOT going to Minnesota. They can't afford him. Even with retention. It was a dumb rumor that was debunked by the Wild beat writer already.

-Clutterbuck with full retention is worth more than a 5th. I think the consensus is a 3rd, and I wouldn't be shocked if a team overpays with a late 2nd? He's a strong, gritty player, not a total black hole offensively, and good on the PK. He's deadline catnip for playoff-bound GMs.

-Matt Martin is a heart and soul guy for the Islanders, and they're not going to just dump him (with 2+ seasons of retention?). And to a division rival? Not gonna happen. His contract is cheap enough to bury if they really don't want him being on the NHL roster going forward, and they'll do that before they let him become a Penguin. Also - with this, you have the Islanders retaining on 4 contracts and the limit is 3.
