Thread: Shaw
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div><i>[<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Haanrngrsfn311</b></div><div><i>For Shaw, he is going to demand 4-5 million a year for sure. The lowest he will get is 3.75. I guarantee it.
As for Girardi, they aren't taking on his 5.5 million contract. He is still a veteran D man who can hold his own in the right situation. Top pair in NY is not that situation. Edmonton gets him to help solidify the blue line AND mentor the young D man</i></div></div>

The question with Girardi and other players with similar age/ salary /term is what he going to his play gonna be like in the future. Edmonton does have veteran Dmen, and I don't know how much it has helped, would Girardi?
If his mentoring is so important, maybe his should stay and mentor McIlrath, Skjei and McBain.
Interesting how the Shaw situation plays out. Personally I like him. The danger in acquiring him is he a good 3/4 liner on a very good team (Chicago) and how does he translate into a lesser team? (although the Rangers I think are a top 8 team). Does Shaw turn into another Bolland? Stats wise (if that means anything) JT Miller, Kevin Hayes and Shaw are almost identical. You've signed Miller to 2.75m, Hayes to 2.45m and signed Shaw to 4.25m Wouldn't that send a bad message to young Rangers in the dressing room (especially if MIller, Hayes and the departed Kreider are well liked)?</i></div></div>
Well the Rangers are notorious, mostly under Sather for handing out bridge deals, which would be the case for Hayes who also has struggled this year. Miller is coming off of his bridge deal (technically, he signed his Qualifying Offer last year so I'm counting that). Therefore, I don't think he'll get a 3-4 million dollar raise. A 3 year deal for him would keep him as an RFA at the end of his next contract again so they aren't buying any UFA years either which could keep it down.
As for Girardi, Edmonton is just an example. Maybe Arizona could be that team as they could use him to mentor a team that hasn't won AND help in a playoff push. Maybe even Anaheim whom were interested in him back when the Rangers signed him to this ugly deal at the deadline a few years ago.
