Keep Hayes

Is there any way that the Rangers can pry Shesterkin from the KHL? He'd easily win either an NHL roster spot or an AHL starting role. The kid is the future between the pipes for New York.</div></div>
He'll likely come over next season. All of our Russian prospects (Kravtsov, Rykov, Shesterkin) are free to come over after this season. I think Shesterkin will start in the AHL to get used to the different angles of the American rink and make is NHL debut midway through the season. In an ideal world Kravtsov wouldn't be rushed or forced into the NHL but I think he's ready, just hope he transitions well.

Kovalchuk
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Philu916</b></div><div>Truthfully I’d move Zucc or Kreider to EDM, rather Zucc since he’s 30 and will want long term. He’s a playmaker and would be perfect with McDavid or Draisatl. Think Vesey can get more than a 4th round pick, otherwise not worth trading him.</div></div>
I disagree, Zucc is the heart of this team and will be the captain come next season. When Kreider is on, he's an animal and is one of the best net front presences in the league. Additionally, he's under a team friendly contract for term whereas Namestnikov will likely get a deal around $5million. Namestnikov hasn't really shown much since he came over from Tampa (4 points in 19 games). I like Namestnikov, I just think that him, Spooner and Hayes are all very similar players. Hayes you 100000% re-sign and Spooner doesn't have as much value as Namestnikov in a trade, and will also be cheaper contract wise.
As for Vesey, as long as you get a mid-round pick for him I'm happy with it. He won't get you a 2nd so you're looking in the 3/4 range. Only other option is he's a 4th liner who rotates out.

1) No way Zucc gets a first round pick this offseason. There are just way too many other options at wing for teams to sign/trade for and he won't be the cream of the crop
2) Where is Hayes???? They just don't qualify him and lose him for nothing?

McDonagh trade
Do you hear all that laughter? That's the entire state of NY laughing at this trade offer. There is no reason for the NYR to take Reimer and Repo is a 21 year old "prospect" that hasn't overly impressed overseas. 1st and 2nd is not nearly enough for McDonagh.

I don't see this being too much of an overpayment. Dahlin is being regarded as a generational type of defenseman so it's going to take a lot to get him. I was thinking somewhere between McDonagh, Vesey, and a 1st and what I proposed here. As for Hayes, maybe a little under 5million but definitely over 4. Maybe 4.5 for Hayes and 4.25 for Miller or something along those lines. Grabner I just re-worked in another post for 3.33 but can see him getting around 3.5, most I'd consider would be 3.75 but nothing more than that. Yes, I probably low-balled Kovy

That also won't get you Grabner or Kovalchuk. I also doubt there will be a team in Seattle next season. There are a lot of rumors going around right now that after this season both Grabner and Nash will re-sign in New York even if they are traded. Lots of reports going back to last year as well that Kovalchuk wants to play in NY. Don't see any of this happening.

This is more of a "win-now" move for the Rangers. They'll be sellers more than buyers this deadline even with the team being in the hunt for the playoffs right now. This trade doesn't help NY.

Yes we are in need of better defensive play. All of our defense-men have struggled this season but figuring out the center position is a bigger need IMO. They have the defensemen to be successful, they just need the right deployment and help from the forwards

No. No no no no no no no. Rangers will NEVER trade Chytil and Smith for Matt Duchene. Chytil is 18 and has an insane ceiling as shown in training camp. He would have gone top 5 if drafted next year. Duchene is a nice piece and someone who I think the Rangers would benefit from acquiring but he's a FA after next season and could potentially hurt the team's chances of signing key RFAs this offseason

Rangers Two Games into Preseason
Love the optimism but if NYR are going to have Andersson or Chytil make the team, it's going to be in a top 9 role whereas you have Andersson on the 4th line. Personally I think Andersson will make the team before Chytil will (if either of them make the team) simply because of the hype that Andersson is a "more NHL ready prospect and Chytil just turned 18 two weeks ago. Maybe Chytil plays in AHL and is first call up but I can't see them BOTH making the team.
Also I LOVE Pionk's game but there's no way he's a top 4 d-man to start his rookie year. I'd rather have DeAngelo with Skjei and Pionk with Smith. I know I'm getting ahead of myself but I'm so excited to see what the following season's roster looks like once we rid ourselves of Holden and Staal

What else would need to be added in order to make this work? Guarantee a 1st round pick? Jimmy Vesey? IMO Kreider, Miller, Buchnevich, Zibanejad are untouchable forwards especially if giving up Hayes

2017-18 rangers roster
I'd rather send Nash (with 50% salary retained) 2nd round pick, and conditional 4th round pick to Vegas for Marchessault. Kreider is young, signed long term and is one of the best net front presences in the league, statistically speaking. I know that's what would pull Vegas to wanting Kreider as opposed to Nash but with Marchessault being an UFA at the end of the year, I'd rather not give up a guy signed to a team friendly contract especially when I don't think that he fixes the center depth (terrible on faceoffs) and last year could be a bit of a fluke.

I personally would do this deal, I'd rather make it a 2nd round pick as opposed to a 1st but I understand where it's coming from considered RNH is signed for 4 years as opposed to Nash's 1.
However, the Rangers are going to need the cap space for RFA's and I don't think RNH would fit into that plan since a lot of the space that came from Nash coming off the books would go directly to the RFAs next offseason. I think it's a good proposal, just bad timing with Nash's contract expiring.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>I think that is way to optimist for Andersson to be a regular next season. And Winnick is really a LWer.</div></div>
I'm uncertain about Andersson being a regular next year as well but with the lack of depth there I really think he makes the team. Is he an all-star rookie year? Of course not but I believe if he makes the team, he'll have respectable play/numbers for an 18 year old rookie in the NHL.
Yes Winnik is more of a winger but he CAN play Center if absolutely needed to, kinda like Pirri last year.
I also think that come the deadline, they'll make a deal with San Jose for Joe Thornton to team him up with his buddy Nash. This would push Andersson to the 4th line or in a rotation with Desharnais depending on their respective play. What do you think of something like that going down later on in the season?

This Is What Most Likely Happens
I really want Tkachyov for, if nothing more, a very good prospect to have. Prospects aren't guaranteed but offensively Tkachyov could be absolutely dynamic. I can see him as a Benoit Pouliot type player during the 2013-2014 type season. However, I think I saw a rumor the other day that he signed for another year in KHL so hopefully it happens next year.
I also don't think you want Vesey on the 4th line. To me he's a career 3rd liner, and a perfect fit for that type of style. Can add offense, but isn't flashy but also is responsible defensively with very high Hockey IQ. I'd LOVE for Rangers to add Kerfoot, his center at Harvard who can fill in for a year or add depth to Hartford/call-up if Andersson isn't ready.

I want Duchene as much as the next guy but this is WAY too much. Get rid of one of the 1st round picks and it's something I'd consider. However, Avs aren't trading for Holden especially after they traded him to the Rangers before last season for a 4th round pick.

Good Enough For Palhal???????
What are you talking about I don't know math? In what way does this site show anything about knowing or not knowing math?? I don't think you understand how the NHL operates. Staal is still a decent defenseman. However, on a team like the NYR he will not get playing time because of the other players on the team. McDonagh, Shattenkirk, Skjei, and Smith are all clearly better than him because they are great players. DeAngelo they just gave up Stepan for so they'll give him every chance to play and Bereglazov has a KHL opt out clause so theyll give him every chance to succeed which means they'll cut Staal's ice time. He won't be happy in NY so he'll be willing to accept a trade to a team that still values him like the Avalanche who gave up THE MOST GOALS IN THE NHL LAST YEAR and don't even have 4 D-men on their roster.
Just don't comment on my posts anymore, you're a waste of time and energy. Just cuz you're bitter you've suffered your entire life does not mean that you know the ins and outs of the NHL.

All this anger because it pointed out that Staal has a NTC and that Avs would not accept Staal, they could spend 5.7m better. Unlike like grammar or math where 2 negatives make a positive, in your cases two previous negatives posts, doesn't make this one a positive.</div></div>
Rangers make it clear he won't get playing time and he'll waive his NTC.

Teams aren't interested in mid range prospects....than want guys that can play in the NHL. You have to know Graves is very unlikely to play in the NHL and maybe even Halderson. Of course you conveniently ignored, Staal's NTC. I'm sure he would veto a trade to worse team in the league.
I'm not a big Duchene supporter and Hayes and something for Duchene makes sense. But please you trading AHLers and negative value Staal for also. Any GM even Sakic can spend 5.7m better on other player(s) than Staal. Sorry that's the reality of Staal's value.</div></div>
On a terrible Hartford Wolfpack team, Graves was a bright spot. He plays on the top pair in Hartford and won the hardest shot competition in the AHL. He has good value. Halverson was a 2nd round pick just 2 years ago and is highly ranked. Had a poor year last year on the Wolfpack team but that is to be expected with the way the overall team in front of him played. If not Halverson, take another goalie prospect. Rangers have plenty of them. Huska? Nell? Georgiev? Who do you want?
Also don't tell me Staal doesn't have value after Ron Hainsey got a 2nd round pick just last deadline. Or when Kris Russel fetched a 2nd rounder that could have turned into a 1st two years ago.

You can't say Staal has no trade value when Girardi, who has played worse than him by far the last 2 seasons got a 2 year 3million dollar contract from Tampa (middle of the pack last year in GA). Colorado sucked last year. No question about it. SUCKED. Staal is a veteran with experience winning who is a capable 2nd pair D-man on a team like Colorado.
