The only trades that actually make sense
Stop trying to take our players just so you can offload PLD. There is clearly a terrible fit trade-wise between the Jackets and Habs, and we aren’t making a trade just because someone is French-Canadian. KK is untouchable, so stop making ridiculous offers.

Ok but who are you waiving?cause your 23 man roster shows you over by 1.16 mil if you trade Armia your under by just about 760k giving just enough leeway for trade deadline

Just out of curiosity: since you've traded away Byron, I assume that Artturi Lehkonen and Jake Evans are the two qualifying forwards you're going to expose to Seattle?

Solving the Cap Problem
As for all of the Byron/Kulak stuff:
I think that Byron should absolutely be on our normal lineup. If everyone’s ok with it and you want to send him to the taxi-squad on off-days as a paper transaction to save cap space, go ahead. However that might pose a few issues with waivers or Byron’s mental state, so this might not work.
As for trading Kulak, I think we need to do it. We need to make sure that we are not only cap compliant this year, but next year as well, when we need cap space more. So we need to have breathing room for the inevitable performance bonuses for KK/Suzuki/Romanov. To do that, we need to make a trade. While Kulak is great with Petry, it’s unlikely that he’ll play with Petry this year, because if he was the habs wouldn’t have signed Edmundson to the contract they did. And I also think that if he’s playing on the 3rd pairing, Kulak’s extra $1 million isn’t worth the difference between him and his replacement, which would be Mete. Mete is cheaper, as well as being more flexible since he can play both sides. And even if we get an injury or 2, we have an abundance of NHL-level D who could easily be nearly as good as Kulak would be.

Solving the Cap Problem
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsRealGM</b></div><div>I'm under the impression, his cap hit counts when you bring him back. There must some loopholes and something I'm missing. If we can keep Kulak, all the better. I actually like him. But if I'm choosing between Byron and Kulak I'm choosing Byron.</div></div>
If Byron was sent down as a paper transaction on all of the days we aren’t playing games, that would save approximately $500K more than if he spent the entire season on an NHL roster.

The Habs are built to withstand almost any injury this year except to Suzuki or Danault, which was the point of this post.
There is going to be more back to back games this year than any other year, and with covid running amuck we are going to see massive amounts of man power lost.
I think the Habs are one of the most prepared for this upcoming challenging season.</div></div>
Byron Weal Evans Poehling Frolik Perry will rotate, Lehkonen Armia are locks

Habs Center Depth
If we forget about Brassard (which would have been a nice signing indeed), would you still risk Kulak on waivers?
Players we would lose on waivers : Kulak>Mete>Juulsen>Perry>Frolik
and those with a slight chance to get claimed : Byron>Weal
And maybe Frolik accepted to sign in MTL because he was promised he wouldnt get send on waivers (most likely Perry situation). Byron+Weal on taxi makes the most sense but we still need 1 player there. Maybe it could be Romanov in the taxi afterall to start the season

I'm sure that Perry was promised at least x number of starts for him to sign a near minimum wage contract with the Habs.
In my description I have Lehkonen making more starts than Byron and Perry.
The Habs have crazy depth on the wings this year.</div></div>

Only other package I’d consider is Danault + Caufield + 2021 1st and 2021 2nd. It’s either that or Suzuki + Brook. MTL fans hate when people say it has to be KK or Suzuki. It’s like a Jets fan going to trade for Suzuki or KK and saying well give you Roslovic + Pionk for Suzuki, but nope Laine or Connor are untouchable.</div></div>
I’m not a jets or canadiens fan, but I’d stay away from Laine. He’s a great goal scorer, but he’s one dimensional. His defensive game is a liability and at that price, I’d rather have Caufield, KK, or Suzuki (at a much cheaper price) and spend the difference elsewhere. Good teams are built down the middle and with top end dmen. Don’t spend on one-dimensional wingers.

Yes, Byron would probably the one going through waivers to go on the taxi squad

1. What makes you so sure that Perry will make it over Byron?
2. Why would we do that? The only reason not to put someone on the taxi squad is because we could lose them on waivers, which isn't a concern for anyone on waivers. Cap space is accumulated daily so the more cap space we have the better as we would then have more to work with at the TDL.

Getting under the cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsRealGM</b></div><div>I realize they would. I'm not familiar enough with their roster to know how they might move players around to get under the cap.
I know Yost has been subject to trade rumours. Byron is a quality player who can play up and down the lineup. I believe we need to trade one of Byron Lehkonen or Armia to make our roster work. But also need equal value in return (roster player). Equivalent to Byron. I don't know Yost well enough but I assume Byron is more value in the short term for the Avs and upgrades their roster in a year where they are favorites to win.
Maybe Colorado doesn't make this trade. I was curious to see what Avs fans thought.</div></div>
Byrons contract is pretty awful for the avs short term and long term, 3.4m for this year and on the books for 2 more not a fur.
Don’t have cap for him long term, don’t have cap for him short term and avs would have to move out Nukes money too be cap compliant,
Not a fit

The optics for Anderson are looking really solid for his game off the puck. [ <a href="https://www.habseyesontheprize.com/analysis/2020/10/12/21508825/josh-anderson-video-analysis-detailed-breakdown-of-skill-set-offence-defence-power-forward-net-front" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://www.habseyesontheprize.com/analysis/2020/10/12/21508825/josh-anderson-video-analysis-detailed-breakdown-of-skill-set-offence-defence-power-forward-net-front</a> ] It seems like he'd be a great fit for the Suzuki/Drouin duo who are puck carriers (and smaller sized forwards). I'd be interested to see KK (the playmaker) play with a bonafide sniper for the first time, in Toffoli.
I'm sure we'll see either combination tried out coming out of training camp. The real interesting part is if the Danault/Gallagher/Tuna trio stays together or not.
