Nah. You keep him for the year and see what happens. You can always trade him later. He breaks out like he should hes worth 6mil. Why wait 3 more years for a late first rounder that may or may not pan out or make a trade where you give up more assets. They a need a 2C and they already lost Danault. You pay him and lose nothing. They have the cap and can decide later what to do. Losing him for a 1st and 3rd is nonesense. You know what you have already.

We dont need Eichel stop with trades already
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SevenLeg</b></div><div>I do think this team can have some success without moving the needle on an Eichel deal, but I have to say you're fairly optimistic.
At this pace Suzuki may evolve into a player who provides more on-ice value than Danault, largely due to his better offensive talent, but counting on him to assume Danault's defensive role and talent right away is intrepid.
Counting on Romanov to take on Weber's on-ice responsibilities is doom for failure. He may be as good as Weber currently is in his D+7 season, but he cannot be it on a contending team.
Without Weber, who I criticized a lot on the PP, leaves our units without any other appealing options. The void created by Perry's departure makes it even worse. Counting solely on MIke Hoffman and Chris Wideman? to elevate it from one of the worst to one of the best is risky.</div></div>
It's gotta disagree. It's called evolution. No one is relying on Wideman for anything. He's a depth Defenceman with some potential upside. Romanovs potential is through the roof. Weber was a step slower out there all season, he consistently got beat in his own end and was at times a liability. His powerplay prowess was non existent and a non factor. He stepped up in the playoffs and was effective. Romanov talent is unquestioned. The reason he wasn't playing in the playoffs is because he was to all over the place in his own end. I believe he comes back a controlled player who harnesses those skills and become a force on the back end for us. He's to strong and too good of a skater. He just needs to calm down. If you watch the games you can see it coming for him. An evoluion like that in his game easily replaces Weber on the ice. The kid is a beast.
Guys like him and KK are on the brink and oozing with talent. These are usually the years (age) guys like this find their game and become true pros. Both these guys have had their growing pains, this year they overcome the hurdle IMO.
Suzuki has already arrived and only gets better. He is already a better player than Danault and his defence in the playoffs was over shadowed by Danaults impressive performance. Suzuki is capable of Danaults defence plus bring 3x the offence.
The rest is optimism for sure but certainly not dreamy fiction. These guys all went to the Cup last year. It took them all season to find their game as a team. Can't wait to see what a really.offseason and training camp will do for these guys. Our depth has to be one of the best in the league. Byron Lehkonen, Armia, Paquette as 4th liners. Come on.
Perry was a dynamic influence and brought some real intangibles.he will be missed but is replaceable. Perrault +Paquette And the rest of these guys all just spent a season learning from him...evolution .

Why not leave him where he is?</div></div>
Most of Toffoli goals haven't been the result of chemistry with KK. Anderson and Byron is hardly the short end of the stick. It's better balance and I'd bet you'd see KK getting more chances than he is currently .

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jo_Habs77</b></div><div>Disagree. Before the season started, analytics pointed to Anderson doing well off possession from the puck. Suzuki and Drouin are the best puck carriers (in terms of possession-time). It's why that line has been looking so good. They compliment each other and Anderson provides much need grit and size to the other two.
KK needs someone to pass to. Toffoli fits in nicely next to him as the shooter, Armia too in his last two games.</div></div>
Not saying it's not working. Just saying it could be better. Regardless of the analytics before the season, watching the games makes me think Toffoli is a better fit with suzuki and Drouin for the exact reasons you mentioned about possesion. Anderson scores of the rush or one timers in the slot. With him and Byron on the wings it gives KK the speed and support on the forecheck he's not getting with Toffoli and Armia. I actually dont think Toffoli and KK have much chemistry and Armia had one good game. At this rate Toffoli is scoring his way to more minutes with suzuki and Drouin anyway.

Im so relieved nothing happened jesus christ</div></div>
Agreed. If Jarmo turned down KK, Caufield, Guhle, and 1st, for Laine and Roslovic I'd say he's crazy. Also very glad Montreal didn't make this trade. Especially if that was what we were offering. I would have considered Danault and Poehling and that's it. Even then I'd question if it was worth the risk. Dubois is talented no doubt. But you gotta question his character. You know what you got in Danault, KK Suzuki. We're a better team long term doing nothing. Sign Danault at the tend of year. Let Tatar walk bump up Toffoli, enter Caulfield.

The only trades that actually make sense
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsForEver</b></div><div>I'm thinking 100% long term. It's not like Dubois is 28 or 29 and already out of his Prime, we are comparing two players here who are 2 years apart and we both know Montreal's development problems. In the perfect world, Kotkaniemi maxes out at PLD's level, and that's best case. Like I said, I'd rather go with Dubois because he guarantees we are getting a good 1C.
Who is the more complete player? I'm going with PLD because there's no surefire shot that KK becomes anything better than a 3C. This doesn't compare to the PK vs Weber trade whatsoever, I said MB won the trade when he made the deal and I say he won it now. Subban wasn't the better player then and he sure as hell isn't now.</div></div>
Agree to disagree I guess. I think KK is definitely better than a 3C. I think we've only seen a small sample size and from what I've seen he has all skills to be a 1C or 2C, he just hasn't put it together yet. Up till now he's been a kid. He got drafted 3rd overall for a reason. Everyone develops slightly different. 2 years is a big difference when you're talking about 22 vs. 19.I haven't seen enough PLD to know all his intangibles but I'm pretty high on KK as a pretty complete player. Don't see the need at this point to make a trade if CBJ want KK +... Too much to lose when you could hold onto the chips you have. Agree, Weber much better then and now. It is similar situation though.

What would your team be willing to give up for PLD
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Duggysdanglers</b></div><div>I think he IS valuable which is why he likely would have to be included. CBJ will want something solid in return. Tatar and Danault will be UFAs soon. I think a deal starts with either Suzuki or Kotkaniemi and then you have to add from there. Not sure what else but you might have to include one of those top prospects. Or a high pick. Something.</div></div>
Makes no sense for the habs to trade Suzuki or KK for Dubois when they are equivalent value in one year. They are all 1C or 2C players. It's like trading a dollar for a dollar cause your dollar is slightly shinier right now. If either of KK or Suzuki wanted out of MTL or Dubois had something either of these guys don't have then it makes sense. But that's not the case. IMO it's debatable who will be the better player over the next 5 years. Convince me Dubois is gonna be more of a complete player and then you can start conversation. Otherwise MTL starts the conversation with Danault + a prospect not named Romanov or a pick.
IMO CBJ has a hard time trading him, because they want to replace him with a 1C or 2C of equal value. They either have to offer Dubois + for a better 1C or take a 2C + from someone else. A 3 way trade might be an ideal scenario. Dubois + Laine +....?

Of course you are. Because you are looking at right now. No GM makes trades like this without considering the long term. No question at this moment in time PLD is better. No debate. The question is who is the more complete player in 3-5 years? It's like when MB trade Subban for Weber. At the time Subban looked like the better player. Who would you rather have today? Who is better for your team?

Agree. At the moment. But you have to consider long term when you' re making trades of this caliber. A trade like this is a 5-10 year bet. Talk to me at the end of the year and see if KK is as good a PLD. I'm willing to bet they will be closer than you think. I'd also be willing to wait and find out. #notrade

Disagree. We don't need to trade KK for Dubois. Why make a move for the sake of making a move. Kk + Danault is better than Dubois everyday of the year. Losing both makes our team worse. Kk will be just as good as Dubois.
If you're trading with MB. Danault + a high level prospect (Poehling, Caufield) or a first round pick. Might get it done. Even then I'm not sure you even make the trade. If we can re-sign Danault long term and keep KK and Suzuki we've got a Trio down the middle that not many teams can match.
We only trade for Dubois if IT IMPROVES our team. The above trade and comments here don't improve us. Everyone is salivating over Dubois. We have a solid group of three I'll take all day. Why trade for someone that may or not make us better as a group.
