Marner for Doughty who says no
With the way he played tonight is he even worth alec Martinez? They need to really sit down as an organization and rethink how they built this team.

I agree totally i am tired of making up excuses for this team. They lack the killer instincts that great team need. If this situation happened in gilmours era we don't lose cause he would have lost his mind on the bench. If i was Dubas, Keefe, Tavares and the rest of leafs leadership/management i would read this team the riot act after this half a** effort.

I have been a leaf fan for 40 years and tonight might be the most embarrassing loss i have ever watched this organization. This team may have skill be there is no killer instincts.

This is the answer
Now i get this is your first post but tampa is not trading Kucherov and Stamkos. Even if they did it wouldn't be in the same trade to a division rival. No team is going to give toronto a 1st late or not in the round for Campbell. Marincin is not worth a franchise center. Welcome to Capfriendly but its posts like this that non leaf fans use to stereotype the rest of us as all delusional. So please don't take this to heart but there is nothing about these trades that is remotely plausible.

Hire Babcock
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy739</b></div><div>we wouldnt let Claude go
he came in to a crap team and put together a good one
until he came Gallagher was used as a 3rd line checker
since CJ arrived he's been a consistent 30 goal guy
Tatar's rebounded under CJ as has Domi , and Armia among others.
Danault became a top 10 faceoff center under CJ improving every years and now just looking outside top 3 in the league .
the issue is he's given less pieces and has to make them into starting line up players which is hard enough but then they give him no one to protect these guys and we're injured constantly .
if you fired Molson today , promoted MB to his job , Timmons to MB 's and fire Kovalev and let Deschamps handle Special Teams as well as Offense.
i think then you'd see impact moves and our offense step up .
our GM's hands are tied as long as Molsons there
its been that way for decades which is why were lucky for Gillettte's ownership drafting 2001-2008 getting us most of the core Molson rode the past decade .</div></div>
I agree fully my wife family are Habs fans and i'll tell you what i told them they need to truly be all in like the leafs were to a full rebuild. Your GM really has done nothing but won every trade and draft well. It's not his fault no Star FA want to sit down with him. I also told them if the habs were smart this year they would tried to get 1st overall and land Lafreniere he would hopefully give star FA to want to come to Montreal. Anyways i hope they get back to their dominant ways i really want the leafs beat you guys one day in the conference finals ;)

Montreal Canadians
I'm intrigued by the leafs deal. However though he is left handed im not entirely sure he has experience playing on the Right. The leafs really need a solid dman to complement Reilly with Muzzin/holl and Sandin/Barrie pairs playing well we really just need to have Reilly partner.

Hire Babcock
As a leaf fan i would honestly say the Canadiens would really get nothing from hiring Babcock. His value to the leafs was changing the enviroment in the locker room but by the end of his tenure if Dubas didn't fire him the core of this team would probably went "fishing" with him in the middle of lake Ontario forgotten bring him back. He bacame a huge cancer in that locker room. Your issue not coaching but rushing to win a cup when halfway through a rebuild. Kotkaniemi was rushed to the NHL and now they are paying for it. In my opinion they need to realize that they need find a marquee young superstar to sell to Free Agents or talk a marquee FA to sign and make montreal a place every hockey player wants to play in like Toronto did once Matthews, Marner made it look fun to play in toronto again.

TOR-MIN

Look at those wingers the Leafs would have to play with the trade of Kapanen and Kerfoot. Does the author of the post really think this helps the Leafs at all?</div></div>
I agree and we need a better defender not another o dman. I think Brodin is a better fit now and in the future. He might be a LHD but he also experienced at playing on the right and can play a similar role Hainsey played with Reilly last year but is a better puck mover than Hainsey.

tfade for futur
Didn't you just trade our future away for draft picks? it would be good to have more or less all the top 5 picks this year but this is not a generational draft but a solid core draft meaning though Matthews looks like a stud the rest of the top five just solid top line forwards and a sliding
dman. Trading this much especially on our D could turn a team with upside to oilers 2.0.

What if they need to release 25% of contracts for expansion
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div><i>I think you have to 25% of the cap available in the draft. So it might be about 19m. Bozak, Komarov, and Lupul would waive his NTC....that's about 12.5m right there. Maybe Kadri at 5m....So there shouldn't be a problem.</i></div></div>
I do believe it is an issue cause if we don't have anyone to replace let's say a Kadri exposing him would weaken an already weak team cause I'd be shocked if they wouldn't pick him up especially if he is signed long term. The point of this post was to point out they not only need to improve the team but make sure the core players they want to keep or be compensated for are not just given away for free. Kadri would be a player even if let's say they don't want him long term is still a player they would rather trade than give away. Also, I do belive I read somewhere that the 25%is based on how much of the salary cap you use next year not what the cap is at.

The Bozak deal could definitely work for both teams my not have to retain any money but it does sweeten the deal. The winnipeg deal might not be enough but could work I do like Lemieux he looks like a good 3/4 line winger and brown though talented is probably like you said lost next offseason to expansion.</i></div></div>
Thanks....you might be right about Kadri deal but I do think it's fair.

Just heard a few rumours
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div><i>Hard to believe that the Coyotes would want Lupul for leadership but they might do for money considerations. Pronger is owed 4.9m, Lupul 5.25 a year for two years. If the Leafs paid half the salary of Lupul, the Yotes would get player for 350,00 for two years, from what they were paying in Pronger's salary. Leafs would get up to 2.62 m a year for two years in cap relief. (The Clarkson deal was similar in context).
You don't have to necessarily trade Kadri. Shaw plays a lot wing. Buyout Bickell at 1m a year for two years, and I guess Vesey isn't playing either, but maybe Leivo, Leipsic or maybe a short term UFA at wing.</i></div></div>
Couldn't believe it myself but unless it was an April fools joke Arizona are at least interested. Unsure of specifics if true but I agree retaining some money might happen. Kadri I think his value is at an all time high so by trading now we can get max value. I do like Lemieux I truly think he could be a poor man's version of his father meaning a 3 line wing who grids and adjetates well but might not be as good of a clutch player as his dad.

You forgot about Marner if he is truly NHL ready like most people think he is there is no room or need for Radulov. Also remember that this is a rebuilding team with young impressnable players it was the reason we took the best offer for Kessel undervalued or not.

Year 48 of rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div><i>As someone who remembers 1967, and even 1962, it hasn't been 48 year rebuilt, but I like you am enjoying this one. Like your team here, no high priced UFAs needed. Don't know if the Hawks would want to take on Horton and his $ m owing, when Bickell buyout would only cost 1m a year for two years. A Cowan-Bickell trade might happen.</i></div></div>
My thinking was they would be able to free up 5.3 in cap space where Bicknell buyout only frees up 3. that's 2.3 million more they can use for resigning a player.
