Slavin can't move the puck, Slavin isn't the mobile one, and Slavin is just bad offensively. Dougie is the best puck mover in hockey from the blueline, there's all sorts of analytics to back that him. His defence isn't ideal, but he's a top 10 D man easy, I'd make the case he's the best D man in hockey as an analytics head. I know you're now gonna go ballistic, but I seriously suggest you handle this rationally because I do think you're just not up to date with how good Hamilton is.</div></div>
I don’t care how many points Slavin puts up cuz it’s not his job. As a defenseman, it’s your job to defend & Hamilton isn’t capable of that. If he is so good, why did he get traded twice? Look at his analytics from before he came to Carolina & got paired with Slavin. God awful, his possession, shot & scoring chance differentials are all below par. Slavin’s results have always been excellent. So let’s stop acting like Hamilton is better than Slavin cuz he isn’t. Clearly one is getting benefitted by the other & that isn’t Slavin.

Is Marner a better player than Matthews? Nope. Eichel? Nope. He’s not even better than Kyle Connor & Matthew Tkachuk. Hell, I’d even take DeBrincat & Boeser over him. He’s no where near a top player in the game, or even in his position. Stop lying to yourself & stop this nonsense.

Agree Hamilton is a horrible defenseman. His advanced analytics are replacement level. He’s only recently been getting rated because he has Slavin elevating his game making him look elite. I’d take Brandon Carlo over him any day.

Keith is overrated too, if you look at his advanced stats, you’ll see that he was only an average to below-average defenseman. I don’t know how that pairing ever worked, these are 2 horrible defensemen as far as I’m concerned. The only reason they looked good was because they shared the ice with Kane. I hope they can just retire cuz you can find these replacement level defensemen anywhere at the lowest prices.

I don’t understand why you are wanting to trade for Hamilton at all. He just isn’t a good defenseman. The only thing he has is size & physicality. He is a poor skater, can’t move the puck & is horrible defensively. The only reason why people think he’s good is because Slavin is carrying him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>leafs101</b></div><div>gonna repeat this again:
Patty Kane is a small guy who racks up assists and has played with great players like toews and panarin, does that make him bad? Absolutely not. 94 point 22 year olds don't grow on trees. Its not a coincidence that every single player he plays with puts up career numbers (or close to it), especially in goals, every single year. For when u say that's not true:
Rookie Year:
Bozak: 55 pts. High: 49 pts
JVR: 29g/62pts. High: came w Marner the next year but we'll get there
Sophomore:
JVR:36g/54 pts
Kadri: 32g (tied for career high), 55 pts (2nd highest. also missed 2 games)
Y3:
Hyman: 21g (tied with again Marner next year), 41 pts (career high)
Tavares: 47g (>prev. high by 10g), 88pts (career high)
Y4:
Hyman 21g (tied from last year w Marner, highest g/pg by a lot), 37pts (highest p/pg by a lot)
Matthews: 47g(career high and on pace for many more), 80pts (high and on pace for many more)
has played with some pretty good lines, and some pretty average lines, but clear that he drives play and makes his teammates much better.
Marner himself:
61 pts
69pts
94pts
67pts (on pace for 93 in an 82 game season)
Defensive game has also been improving. Now a valuable penalty killer.</div></div>
You simply can’t compare Marner to Kane. Marner gets carried by Matthews & van Riemsdyk whereas Kane carries his linemates Toews, Strome, Panarin & Nylander. No one cares how many points Marner scores cuz he’s been riding Matthews’ coattails.

Replacing Marner With Sheary
Can we just stop thinking that Mitch Marner is an elite winger? He’s nowhere near that & is the most vastly overpaid player in the game. Honestly, he’s just not built for the NHL. He’s small, weak & soft. He always gets knocked over & refuses to hit & fight. He doesn’t have the talent to make up for his poor physique. In a few seasons he’ll be out of the league. All he does is throw the puck into a random area & makes Auston Matthews do all the work for him. That’s how he earns his points, most secondary assists. The Leafs were better off giving his roster spot to Nick Robertson or Jeremy Bracco, could’ve saved them 11 million as well. He’s just a more expensive version of Conor Sheary.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TabooPenguo</b></div><div>Is this from the same guy that says Patrick Kane is better than Crosby?</div></div>
Sidney Crosby is an embarrassment to hockey. He’s a cheap shot artist who hits out at other opponents, then he runs away like a baby. He is always crying to referees and diving for power plays. He does not deserve to be inducted to the Hockey Hall Of Fame, he is simply not a big game player since he disappears every playoffs. There’s nothing about his talent that makes him stand out, he relies heavily on Jake Guentzel to generate his points which is mostly secondary assists. Patrick Kane is a much more respectable and established hockey player than Sidney, therefore I’d easily take him any day of the week on my team over the crybaby loser who hasn’t achieved anything meaningful in his career.

Bobby Orr Wasnt A Good Defender
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Heyhowareya37</b></div><div>Yeah but it isn't kind of obvious that the game over time evolves. I mean every era has advantages and disadvantages. Athletes now have competitive youth travel teams, experienced coaching, training, better health habits, etc. So i think we can agree that the NHL now is at least 4-5 times faster and more skilled then the NHL in the 70's when Orr, Clarke, LaFleur, etc. played. So if theoretically the game 45 years from NOW is 4-5 times faster and more skilled, are you prepared to say that Kane or Crosby were bad players because they wouldn't be able to play in that future era? No, thats ridiculous. If you dominate your era, youre one of the greats</div></div>

Bobby Orr Wasnt A Good Defender
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Heyhowareya37</b></div><div>If you want facts... Out of Orr's 624 career assists, 236 came on the PP (38%) Out of Orr's 264 career goals 74 came on the PP (28%) So no, most of his points did come on the PP. And i know that plus minus is the most disputed stat in hockey now, but you cant be +124 in one season as a defensemen without being at least competent in your end. Also, if you're an analytics person Orr led the league in DPS 4 times, his 9.3 DPS in the 1970-71 season is higher than any mark made by Chelios or Lidstrom. Chelios, Leetch, and Lidstrom were all fantastic players in their own right, but Orr pioneered what it meant to be an offensive defensemen. I find it odd, that you defend Torey Krug a player who I think has a tendency of sacrificing defense for offense and say hes one of the best left handed defensemen the league, but call Orr overrated?</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bhavikp27</b></div><div>You're probably the worst fan I've met... that's telling a lot when even (some) Leafs can understand better.</div></div>
Like I said, if Orr was playing today, he wouldn’t even crack an ECHL roster. The only reason why his stats are the highest was because he played during an era where athletes were trash. Krug is much better than him.

CBOS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jack_</b></div><div>If you are going to use his model you should at least get the numbers right. His charts are extremely valuable but you are just making **** up. Relative to league average Marner is +29% offensively and +3% defensively. Hes a bit below league average defensively. The leafs without him are +8% offensively and +9% defensively. The leafs are one of the best teams in the league when marner is on the ice. Hes also talented enough to outshoot his expected goals without it regressing.
Kane on the other hand is a net negative. +5% offensively and +23% defensively is atrocious. The Blackhawks are better when kane isnt on the ice. +4% offensively and +17% defensively is still very bad but they are better without him. At his cap hit they might get a 5th round pick for him but with what we know about aging curves a soon to be 32 year old winger who makes the Blackhawks (a team who is already bad) worse when best playing wont get much at all. You have to be really bad to make a team that bad worse</div></div>
You don’t seem to understand that a forward’s job is to score goals & Kane is one of the best at doing that with multiple 40 goal seasons. No one cares if you don’t play defense as long as you’re scoring goals. All Marner does is earn secondary assists which is a worthless stat. Sure he generates more, but no one cares if you can’t put the puck in the net. Not to mention his playoff performances are abysmal too. Kane is the most feared Forward in the league & a matchup nightmare for the opposition. Let’s not forget that Marner has scored at the same rate as Connor Brown over the last few seasons. That is beyond embarrassing.
