An article said this for Marner
So, I think we need to realize that most publications are essentially just content creators with very surface level expertise and very little research on these subjects. There are very few people I would trust to have any sort of accuracy on what a player could return, and they tend to be less bias guys who do national coverage and base their finding on the opinions of other experts and massive amounts of research. This article you speak of, was probably just some local schlub who wants good things for his favorite team.

If a couple 5ths are so valuable, the hawks will give Toronto a couple 5ths for Robertson. Zero chance they give up a 2nd

The Hawks system is filled with fast, offensively gifted, small forward prospects; Nazar, Smith, Lardis, Kantserov, Savoie, Ludwinski, not to mention Bedard and Kurashev who are already on the roster. They need to start adding some size and grit up front to compliment the flash and dash. While Robertson has shown flashes he lacks consistency and the the ability to stay healthy. I would rather keep the 2nd round pick and try and get someone who helps fill the voids in the Hawks prospect system.

Hawks decline, they don’t need another small forward, especially someone with Robertson’s injury history. They definitely wouldn’t be giving up a 2nd round pick for him.

Trade Down
I don't think that this is a very good idea for Chicago. Let's assume that the Black Hawks are currently trying to choose between Levshunov or Silayev, Lindstrom or Silayev, or Levshunov or Lindstrom at #2. This trade virtually guarantees that they won't get either of the pair they are considering, and might not get the third youngster, either.

Armchair-GM for the Hawks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kous</b></div><div>IF your lucky Demidov will be as good as MM is. Big IF
how does that help a team that is in WIN now mode?</div></div>
It gives them a ton of cap space and a massively valuable asset they can go spend on improving their roster with more affordable players leaving them with a stronger roster top to bottom rather than a top heavy one like they currently have that obviously can't get it done in the playoffs. For a an aging player with a massive contract that will be asking for an even more massive extension, and whom TOR is probably going to have to walk away from him next summer anyway, that would be a massive haul.

Too much for Berggren, and that Marner trade IS AWFUL for CHI.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kous</b></div><div>that's a hard NO from the Leaf's not even close to the value of MM or a fit for a need for the Leafs</div></div>
That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Marner isn't worth anything close to a 2nd overall pick. Treliving would accept that in a heartbeat.

That trade makes no sense at all for the Hawks. Also the whole idea of retaining on Marner is to due so after his bonus has been paid and by then Marchessault is already a free agent

Hawks have a ton of LD prospects that need playing time and none on the right side. They're not trading a RD for a LD. Not to mention Amy retention on jones is a non starter.

Goals against no more now its up to the forwards to score
I really want to hear your thought process behind that trade. How could you possibly believe CHI would give up their 2nd overall pick? CHI wouldn't even give positive value for Tavares, let alone trade back 21 picks. And Lily is worth a 3rd round pick, at best. Are you ok? Are you being held at gunpoint?

Remove the Chi 1st rounder and replace with Future Considerations..... the deal might have a shot.

A tavares rental and liljegren is not even close to bridging that gap between 2 and 23. Chicagos not going to trade out of that pick, theyre going to take a foundational player for their rebuild.

The Leafs always need more offense in the playoffs, it's either the stars not producing enough or not enough second-scoring. With Bertuzzi and Marner going out and E Lindholm and Cowan coming in, you're not really solving anything upfront. Cowan will produce less than Marner more than likely and Lindholm might produce similar to Bertuzzi. Ullmark is a good goalie, especially in tandem, but he's been horrible in the playoffs, so they better hope Woll can stay healthy. The difference would need to come from the defense: prevent goals and generate some offense. With the additions you made, I think they could be. However, if they are not, expect more of the same.
It would be a mistake to trade Marner in-division, especially to the Bruins.
There's no way CHI trades that far back in the draft, for those pieces. Liljegren is still only 25, but it's not expected that he'll find his offensive touch again, so his upside is basically a top-4 TWD that is mostly defensive. Tavares doesn't do much for them even if he waives. They could get a 1st out of him, but still not worth it. If they don't want to draft at 2nd, they could drop to 7th and get picks that are equivalent in value to the Leafs 24th OV. At 7th, they can probably draft a RD like Parekh who is expected to be a top 4-D but has top-2 upside.
Not sure who you were referring to as the big best defenseman in the draft but I think Treliving would draft Silayev (6'7 LH DFD - top 2 potential) over Levshunov (6'2 RD TWD - top 2 potential), even though Levshunov is what the Leafs need, and more likely to be the better player.
As for your UFA signings they are all pretty good except the Lindholm one, he'll get 7-years and more than likely more money. Domi would also probably get 3.5M at the very least, but probably more like 4M. DeMelo might need a bit more term or more money (4.5Mx3, 5Mx3, 4Mx4, or 4.5Mx4).
