Once Guentzel returns
Worth noting that Pysyk didn’t have a stall in the locker room yesterday but has one today (presumably Friedman’s stall, who’ll be assigned to WBS today if he clears waivers). Could mean they intend to sign Pysyk to a two-way deal and put him on the SOIR list. He wouldn’t have a cap hit as long as he’s hurt.

More waiver claims

Lavoie is 23, 6'4", 215lbs and can shoot. He'd be worth a look. If it doesn't work out it's low risk. I feel like Zohorna was waived yesterday to possibly pick someone up today.</div></div>
Agreed, re: why Z was waived but remains with the team. Gives them roster flexibility. Also, Pysyk didn’t have a stall in the locker room yesterday but has one today (presumably Friedman’s, who’ll be sent down today if he isn’t claimed). Could mean they intend to sign Pysyk and put him on the SOIR list.

More waiver claims
By not waiving Shea the Pens essentially set their D group. They don’t have room for another defenseman. They did leave the door open to claim a forward, however. Whomever it is would have to be a guy they like more than Zo, who appears to, atm, have won the 13F spot.

Looks like White will be sent down and Zo will stay up, unless they find someone they like better on the waiver wire. Zo practiced yesterday and still has a stall in the locker room while White & Hino didn’t practice and do not have stalls. Harkins will likely get the spot on Eller’s wing & Zo will (at present) be 13F. Shea appears to have won the 7D spot.

Neither of those players makes the Pens better. The Pens set their D when they didn’t waive Shea and they have no need of Studnicka.

I think they waived him just in case someone they like better is waived, then they can claim said player and assign Z to WBS. But Z practiced today and still has a stall in the locker room, whereas Hino, White, and Wagner didn’t practice and do not have stalls. Indicates that, unless they find someone on waivers they like better, Z will be 13F.

Waiving Z wasn’t for cap flexibility, it was in case they find someone on waivers they like more than Z. Lavoie probably isn’t that guy, but you never can tell.

Yep, looks like Harkins & Zo have won the jobs. There are six forwards making $5M or more, they’re clearly your top six. The problem is they don’t really have anyone else who can play in the top six regularly. DOC’s probably the guy who plays up if there’s an injury, but he’s not a legit top-six F by any stretch of the imagination.
The team is truly top heavy. They essentially have two first lines and two fourth lines. Same with their top-four D.

It comes down to Hino, White, Zohorna, and Harkins battling for two roster spots, with Wagner on the outside looking in. White & Harkins are more practiced at center than Zo, which probably gives them the edge. And Hino might be screwed there. It’s pretty evident the Pens don’t want Carter playing center. I think you’re right that Acciari moves up to 3RW. Nieto is locked into the 4LW spot with Carter at 4RW (doubt Sully sits him). So, that puts the Pens in need of a 4C, hence White or Harkins. But, I could also be completely wrong, lol.
Shea & Friedman battling for the 7D spot.

I’d be a little surprised if Wagner gets a contract, he hasn’t really distinguished himself in camp and the Pens have plenty of guys like him already signed. Signing Pysyk is a waste of a contract, he’s injured too often. Not worth it.

I think Carter will remain on the 4th line, he’s too much of a liability to play on third line minutes.

Lmao, what in the hell are you talking about? Of course the GM assembles the players. I’m talking about guys like Nylander and Zahorna. If they make the NHL roster or not is the coaches decision.

Crazy to not take him for that cost, especially since it would’ve taken a second just to dump Carter with FC as the return. Someone’s gotta play center after Sid & Geno leave and if, for whatever reason, you did want to unload the contract in a couple years, Trocheck would still net a solid return.
