Eichel
Both the Sabres and Ducks are in the same position. They have lost often lately, and need to tool their rosters to compete.

Riikola is expendable. If he remains vital to the Penguins, he should have played more.

The Sabres have struggled to ice a legitimate 2C after drafting a 1C in Eichel. They need to have a long term plan for the center position.

2022-2023 Season: Goaltending
Looking ahead to the 2022 offseason, the Sabres will have to address goaltending. Losing Linus Ullmark to the Boston Bruins hurts. Craig Anderson and Aaron Dell will man the crease for the majority of the 2021-2022 season. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen needs additional time with Rochester before being ready for Buffalo in 2022.
For 2022-2023, I would expect Luukkonen to be the 1G. Anderson or Dell, whoever plays better during 2021-2022 and wants to return for 2022-2023, could be the 2G.

I would like to see Marion play up to his contract. Marino took a step back in his sophomore 2020-2021 season. He needs to improve and be an impactful right defenseman should the Penguins go post-Letang sooner than later.

dumping kessel
I do not see Kessel being what the Sabres need. I would not mind seeing him traded as a playoff rental back to the Penguins.
Girgensons was a linemate of Larsson on the Sabres' fourth line through the 2019-2020 season, and missed the 2020-2021 season with an injury. He needs to start the season with Buffalo to see if he fits into future plans.

Eichel Dealz
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nhl_oilers</b></div><div>I looked at it out of interest sake and that’s not bad! My offer was always this:
:rangers
Jack Eichel
:sabres
Ryan Strome (cap move)
Kaapo Kakko
Nils Lundkvist
(NYR) 2022 first
Mine is slightly different, getting the better defence man in Lundkvist, and not choosing the goalie because I think that’s a little much, especially if they are getting Lundkvist. Also, they got Devon Levi from Florida, so maybe they don’t want a goalie. I do agree, and think this guys offer is way too much. I doubt Rangers move Lafreniere.</div></div>
Goaltending will need decisions for 2022-2023. Luukkonen will be one of the two goaltenders. Who will be the other?
How is Lundkvist better than Adam Fox?

It is not overpay. It is the market price.

Risto to Philly
Ristolainen plays a physical game, and lacks intelligence to make and finish plays. I assume he fills a roster spot for the Flyers for 2021-2022, remains unchanged, then considers a future in and outside the National Hockey League.
The return the Sabres received for Ristolainen is better than what many expected. Good job by Kevyn Adams.

Whose fault leverage and Eichel minimum
The Sabres pass on from the Rangers. First, Luukkonen will be in Buffalo for 2022-2023. I do not see a need for Georgiev. Second, the Sabres could use a quality defenseman. Fox can be that defenseman. Third, the Sabres will need a 1C if Eichel is traded. Cozens is not ready to promote from 2C to 1C yet. That could play out this season.

Eichel remaining with the Sabres is more realistic than him being traded. He may find the long awaited success under head coach Don Granato. Under Granato's interim period, several Sabres stepped up and excelled. Keeping most of the team in place, making key adjustments, and Granato filling his staff with quality and effective coaches, the Sabres can be good enough not to dwell in the Atlanta Division basement.

Trading Aston-Reese and Lafferty frees up room for better forwards, and helps the Penguins restock on draft picks.
I do not know the bandwagon of trading Pettersson and Joseph. Who wants the Penguins' defense to decay?

Unless the Sabres have roster members coming back, any trade is not happening. If the Rangers desperately want Eichel, Lafrenière and Fox will be going to Buffalo.

We have 3 forwards that i actually wanna watch- olofsson, routsalainen, and cozens. We might not hit 150 goals for. Im not a big fan of paying big for goalies, you can get by with average goalies that are much cheaper if you have a team in front of them. If we get fleury, retain whatever to get the best return, and move him.</div></div>
Trading away the two best forwards and not having a plan B would be an instant fail. No goals, no wins.
Goaltending remains an issue for the Sabres.

The Sabres need goaltending. Why pass at the opportunity on Fleury?
As for Fleury, the leading team he could accept a trade to would be Pittsburgh.

Making the penguins a bonafide cup team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LetsGoPens69</b></div><div>Pens organization said they want to sign a vet-backup-1B goalie. Not trade Jarry.
Jarry was a division winning goalie. Was 25-9 and an AllStar the season b4. Still only 26 years old on a good reasonable contract. I don’t see them trading him or going after a high-end goalie.
The whole organization and teammates backed him after the play-offs. And said just that. He was a division winning goalie, and still young.</div></div>
If the Penguins are seeking a veteran 1B goaltender, bring Fleury home with Vegas retaining fifty percent of the salary. Most quality free agent goaltenders will be seeking 3.5 million average annual value.
Jarry will be a good goaltender long term indeed.
