Zero chance Ritchie even makes it out of the 2nd week of camp. He was a great depth find but that was for a reason. He needs a full season to heal from the injury he had last year and needs to prove he can take that next step in the OHL. This organization views him as a much higher ceiling than 4C, so I doubt he would even break into the league in that role to begin with. If Meyers can't cut it in camp, I think Ondrej Pavel is your next best bet to win that job. That being said, I disagree with your assessment of Meyers. His numbers SUCK, but he has good positioning, good D awareness and good FO ability. Where he struggles is with the "closeout" plays in the offensive zone. If he can refine the finishing ability (both passing and shooting), I think he has a chance to stick as the 4C.
ZAR makes perfect sense at league minimum for us.

Ottawa Senators signed Vladimir Tarasenko (1 Year / $5,000,000 AAV)
Love this deal so much. 1 year, there's no risk. The David Runblad trade comes full circle.
Get him up with Tkachuk-Stützle immediately imo. You want him shooting as much as possible, and Timmy is the best offensive creator on the team. He and Brady make room for their winger in two very different ways, and that means good things when that winger has Tarasenko's finishing talent. Having Giroux with Norris is also an extremely good choice imo. G is the best playmaking option on the wing, and Norris is the best shooter on the team.
Gonna see a Joseph trade here soon. He's making the money you need to pay Pinto. Gonna be sad to see him go. Great personality, great pk and a good defensive forward. Brutal season for him especially with injuries, but he's due to bounce back. Career 13% shooters Don't become 4.5% shooters overnight. Hopefully it's not too bad for Ottawa, but you kind of have to just pay the price to get rid of him.

Dorion when he realizes he needs to sign Shane Pinto with 32k left in cap space.

Still Rebuilding
As it stands now, were on the outside looking in at the TDL unless the kids will it differently.
I don't think Carlsson plays this year in Anaheim, maybe San Diego, and I think the call up Damn is LaCombe
I wouldn't mind Dostal being the started in San Diego if Leo went there too. Team could have a solid shot at a Calder, and we know Stalock can take a beating.
If we're going to give Gibby a fighting chance, we still need to add on D. Whether we are or are not going to trade him we should do that anyway, I think we finish 6th in the Pacific, 23-25 overall.

You could absolutely be right about this, and I think this is the Avs' strategy right now (a la EROD last year). Still, if these guys were available at these prices they for sure would've signed already. We'll see who's left in about 2-3 weeks and that will probably be the pool we pick from.

I’m really thinking Foudy would make a lot of sense being more of a playmaker to Colton and woods scoring touch. I’m really high on Colton taking a big step this year in our system as well. I can see a 20-20 season from him for sure. Would give us flexibility at the deadline as well.

Comtois and Sundqvist are two of the many targets the Avs could look at but Colton gets more and until that's in place I don't see the rest of the roster falling in place. Stastny & Stralman are 'meh' at this point in their careers.

(TBL/COL) - Colton for 2023 2nd (MTL)

Sundqvist, Namesnikov, Bonino, Bjugstad, Engvall and Johansson were all paid a 3rd or way less this year. The only comparable is Eller for a mid-2nd, which shows a trend about Colorado overpaying for center depth.</div></div>
Newhook was drafted as a mid 1st rounder and could not take the 3C spot. Laughton would have cost a 1st. At this point we needed an established 3C and not many options at an affordable AAV.
Eller was an overpay at the TDL.

1. Nashville would have had 2.666 million in dead cap from buying out RoJo versus 4 million from retaining his salary.

3. I highly doubt Colorado will decide to buy out RoJo.</div></div>
2.66 million for 4 years vs 4 million for only two. If Nah is looking to do a quick retool, this was the better option.
Being a small market team, real money likely was a factor too.

His signing rights are worthless.
This trade comes down to three things.
1. Nashville adds 4 million in dead cap for the next two years.
2. Nashville will pay half of Johansen's salary, so he can play for Colorado.
3. At a cap hit of 4 million for the next two years, Johansen has positive trade value for Colorado.
This is a fleecing.
Colorado wins the trade.</div></div>
If the options were this or a buyout, this is better for Nashville.

They didnt which means that is the market. OEL was bought out as well. Teams are desperate to balance the books. Its not just competitive makeup, owners are in tough with the Bally Sports news and no more expansion dollars to save them but rather a money pit in Arizona. A lot of uncertainty.
The worse retention spot was the Ekholm one @250k and a year longer term. The alternative is not making a deal and facing the buyout. That should never be an option in a world where fans always complain about teams NOT making the necessary deals. It isnt easy to make a compromise when teams dont want to move an inch. Coulda, woulda, shoulda. You do whats necessary instead of doing the standard by the books that leads nowhere.

I think EJ might have a bit left in the tank, he had a few really solid games last year, his first full one after a major injury. Who knows though, who do you think Avs should go after for a sixth right-handed defenseman?</div></div>
i think you can bury RoR at $5 mil by the time that comes around - $5mil in theory should feel more like ~3.5 today. there are plenty of $7mil rental options at center if they want to keep term light.
I'm not opposed to EJ in a 6/7D role. In fact, would love it. But his feet haven't caught up with his game - he's still plenty smart, but he plays like he's as athletic as he once was. All that is to say - if he wants more than a mil, there are younger, healthier options.
