Good move for Colorado instead of keeping Lars Eller for a little less or paying more for Compher.

This is also a better option for Nashville than a buyout with less term.

RyJo was terrible this season.

63 points in 76 games last year though.

If he can return to that level it's a steal for only 4M a year.

insane trade. you put this in acgm 2 hours ago and nashville fans would soundly reject it.

Avs needed to get a 2C and I'm confident that Johansen can bounce back with this club.
And they got him for free at a pretty decent salary for 2 years.

Cap space means everything. Canucks especially know this after not being able to move Garland/Boeser for nothing then the OEL buyout, now this! You aint moving any kind of term in this market without retention.

Nashville is just confusing to me. Are they trying to contend? Rebuild? What’s the direction?

Weird that they didn’t get anything despite taking on that much retention, but then again that might’ve been required just to move off of that contract, and 4M in cap space is 4M in cap space.

What a steal for Colorado. Getting a good middle 6 center on a great contract for nothing. Not sure what Nashville is doing here, you'd think Johansen would have value at 50% retained

nashville really just gave up a retention slot and 4 million in dead cap for absolutely nothing lmao

colorado really needs forward depth and the predators absolutely could've gotten something tangible back

This move is so confusing as a Nashville fan. I knew ryjo was basically gone when Trotz was talking about his skating & the team needing to be faster. However, our biggest hole right now is at Center. The retention isn’t a surprise, I wish it was less than half but 4m is still a good amount of open space. Believe that gives the preds 20m or so. I really think Debrincat ends up in Nashville this week & they make a play for a center in trade or FA.

They didnt which means that is the market. OEL was bought out as well. Teams are desperate to balance the books. Its not just competitive makeup, owners are in tough with the Bally Sports news and no more expansion dollars to save them but rather a money pit in Arizona. A lot of uncertainty.

The worse retention spot was the Ekholm one @250k and a year longer term. The alternative is not making a deal and facing the buyout. That should never be an option in a world where fans always complain about teams NOT making the necessary deals. It isnt easy to make a compromise when teams dont want to move an inch. Coulda, woulda, shoulda. You do whats necessary instead of doing the standard by the books that leads nowhere.

This seems good for Colorado and a little bad to pretty bad for Nashville. They are paying 4 million to Johanson to not have him. Or in other words I don't think they can replace him for 4 million or less. If they could have dumped him for like 2 mil sure

I think everyone but Avs fans would reject it lol. Absolutely huge win for the Avs. Also a huge win for RyJo. I love this move.

Our biggest hole right now is at Center.

Not really; Glass, Parssinen and Novak are all top-6 centers, admittedly with short track records. We need experienced centers, I think.

On the topic of the trade itself, in a vacuum, it sucks. It’s awful. But with context — Joey’s injury, his potential decline, and a possible DeBrincat/Dubois trade — it’s better, though admittedly not great. We could have gotten at least a 4th rounder in addition to Galchenyuk.

Fun Fact:

Every time Galchenyuk has been acquired, the team trading for him has lost the trade.

Galchenyuk is the biggest winner here. He can say he is worth 4 million.

Teams who retain tiny amounts like that are really dumb. It just costs them a retention slot for minimal effect

Certain ppl would say otherwise as Domi lead to Josh Anderson whom is the worst player in history and makes more money than GOD!

Still not sure why Holland couldnt have pushed for more retention from Nashville but this must mean they had their eyes on a certain player like a PLD if they need all this cap so badly. In the end the cap space is the asset going back.

You can't look at that. Regardless, Montreal got a top 6 forward in Domi while Arizona got a bottom 6 winger in Galchenyuk.

It's better than a buyout.

That was likely the next move if they had no takers.

Yep. I'd rather be keeping him and at least try to trade him for something at the TD. Not sure what Nashville's plan is here.

Galchenyuk doesn't even have a contract and would be placed on waivers if he did.

His signing rights are worthless.

This trade comes down to three things.

1. Nashville adds 4 million in dead cap for the next two years.

2. Nashville will pay half of Johansen's salary, so he can play for Colorado.

3. At a cap hit of 4 million for the next two years, Johansen has positive trade value for Colorado.

This is a fleecing.

Colorado wins the trade.
