I imagine Rangers fans would say similar things about Andersson. If the argument here is that the pick swap is an unnecessary part of the deal, I could maybe see that.

Money in money out means this is an even cheaper option than your cheap backup. I wouldn’t be so sure about Markstrom. The smart money would be letting him walk anyway.

Forwards
Buffalo would probably have to kick something else in, but Ristolainen for Rakell makes sense if they’re gonna do a deal with Anaheim again. Both of their deals expire after the 2021-22 season, and Silfverberg can block a trade to 12 teams.

Well I won’t argue the younger part, but Mantha is bigger, produces points at a higher PPG pace and has better possession metrics. The most unrealistic part of this trade is Yzerman saying thanks but no thanks.

That Sergachev deal is straight up robbery by the kings</div></div>
Noted on Tyler Johnson, I can try to adjust that. My thought process on the Sergachev deal is say he gets an offer sheet in the $6,341,153 - $8,454,871 range. That nets the Bolts a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. For arguments sake say the 2nd and 4th from the Kings deal is about equal to the 2nd and 3rd from the hypothetical offer sheet since the Kings 2nd will be high. So basically it’s, “is Matt Roy worth a 1st round pick?” Based on who else they’ve traded 1sts away for, I’d say yes. Just doesn’t have the name recognition or draft pedigree of Sergachev.

I'm having a tough time following what's written here... you pay Hutton to be the 1B to Bernier's 1A during what is sure to be another rebuilding season, completely re-evaluate the goaltending situation for the 2021-22 season after they both depart as UFAs and get a shot at signing a talented defenseman in 2 years.

Haha I'm not a Sabres fan I just have a strange obsession with figuring out a way to use Risto to get you guys a legit center. Not that Copp is a world beater.... serves a purpose while Cozens and Mitts develop. Pegulas might not deserve a winner but Buffalo does.

Puljujarvi for 1B goalie
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockeyfanatic05</b></div><div>Pittsburgh isn't trading their starter for that</div></div>
You know the Pens roster/needs better than I do, but is a relatively cheap player with potential who can also contribute immediately not what the Pens need? Jarry played a very similar number of games during the 2019-20 season, and a Jarry-DeSmith tandem should be much cheaper than a Murray-Jarry one. A flat cap will be a big factor for a contender like the Pens.

I definitely appreciate this feedback more than the first two comments. My thought was that the Oilers window is open now, and it's becoming more common for teams (especially on the west coast where travel is tough) to go with a 1A-1B goalie tandem as opposed to riding a single player for 60+ starts. Koskinen's 2018-19 vs. 2019-20 performance speaks to that in some respect, and Murray seems like a solid bet to bounce back.

Sell high with eye on expansion
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15</b></div><div>So my argument with Kadri, the Avs being top 5 in the league in pts, GF, GA, and 5v5 production, Is a poor one? Glad you aren’t making decisions for the Avs.</div></div>
I never argued that Kadri isn’t good 5v5... what I am arguing is that having good center depth is important, and even if Kadri is technically their 3C that gives them tremendous depth. And even if he’s their 3C on opening night there’s a good chance he ends up spending nights as the 2C if/when someone is injured. Say, just for arguments sake, Burakovsky gets injured. Domi kicks over to LW, Kadri moves up to 2C, Compher moves to 3C and then someone scratched breaks into the lineup. It’s about maximizing the value of your assets in order to college good, movable chess pieces. Not “how pretty does the lineup look on opening night”.

Teams can lose 1 player, ONE, and that’s a guy that at best your team ranks as the 2nd best goalie, 4th best dman, 8th best forward, or 9th best skater. Those aren’t core guys, lose one and move on.</div></div>
You’ve doubled down on one poor argument (we already have Kadri so we don’t need another center) with another one.

Graves #5 dman who needs to show more
Jost is a 3rd liner with middle six upside
Kamenev 13th forward

Comparisons to what the Avalanche received for Ryan O’Reilly in 2015 when he was about the same age as Max Domi:
Graves = Zadorov
Jost = Grigorenko
Kamenev = Compher
Montreal gets a 3rd instead of a 2nd. The O’Reilly package is arguably better, but the value really isn’t that far off.

Total Revision
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>villenash</b></div><div>That's a pretty easy no from NSH. Not saying Risto to NSH couldn't work, but that ain't it. They won't trade one of their top offensive prospects for a defensemen that they aren't in desperate need of. They could just pick up a d in free agency and keep those players/pick. And it messes with their expansion draft plans, which are already difficult for them without adding another d they would need to protect.</div></div>
Of everything noted here the expansion draft piece is definitely something I overlooked and makes me realize now how deflated Ristolainen's trade value must be since he'll likely create that problem for whichever team acquires him. Botterill's got a tough gig.
