Blockbuster and a tendy

Description
Avs are going nowhere if Georgiev gets hurt, not to mention his struggles and ridiculous workload. Out from under Johansen’s $4mil hit this year and next, too. Win-win gamble for Ducks and Avs exchanging highly regarded but oft-injured, somewhat out of favor players. Rantanen on Zegras’ wing gives him flexibility with shortcomings in the faceoff circle.

laugh Anaheim doesn't need LHD, And a concussed Byram doesn't get you Trevor Zegras.

While the value isn’t bad, Byram isn’t a need for Anaheim as they don’t need a LHD

You lost me at the part where you devalued the guy who is actually healthy while overrating the other who is currently hurt.

1. Zegras played 156 of 164 games the last 2 seasons. You will not find an ANA fan who considers him even remotely injury prone. 2 unrelated injuries in a season for the first real injuries of his career does not qualify as injury prone
2. You will be even more hard pressed to find an ANA fan, coach, or player who feels he’s out of favor. Cronin lauds him constantly. Is it possible Verbeek doesn’t see him as a fit long term? Sure. But I don’t buy the narrative you’re taking away from the media one bit
3. As it’s been said, LD is the least attractive position for ANA to make an addition. We have Fowler, Mintyukov, Zellweger, Lacombe, Vaakanainen, Hinds, Dionicio. It’s a problem how many young LD we have
4. One of ANA’s biggest deficiencies is scoring wingers. Which sounds eerily similar to.. Zegras

You really need to stop with the 'concussed Byram' thing. It's getting real old and sounding really dumb. Especially when talking about a healthy Byram vs an injured Zegras.

Byram isn't really a fit for the Ducks on need but that's not saying it coudn't happen. Just doesn't seem a logical option. Nor is it the best move for the Avs as they need C help realistically if they trade Byram and Zegras really isn't it. The SJ trade is an overpay imo. 3rd to dump RyJo. You don't need to trade a 1st for a back up G and some picks.

Funny how people on here fancy themselves as the all knowing source of truth for their teams and yet the last two comments are in direct conflict with one another.

And for what it’s worth, eating $4mil over one more year after this one is the EXACT type of thing SJ should be doing.

yes fine eating the 4M buy i'm not swaping picks to move 10 spots for the privledge. 4M cap eat is worth at least a 2nd in the clear

There's no way that Byrum alone can get us Zegras.
And Zegras on this team sounds like a nightmare

Honestly it's probably not too far off the right value depending on where the picks end up, likely need some conditions (if the Devils reach the ECF that pick is a 1st rounder, maybe use the Sharks' 2026 2nd or something). It's looking like the Devil's pick will be roughly 45-50. The Avs' pick is probably going to be roughly 25-32. The Athletic's draft pick values have pick 45 as 1.8 GSVA and pick 25 is 3.4 GSVA, so depending on position that is about the same as a mid-2nd to move up. If the Avs win the cup and it's pick 32 that'd be 2.7 GSVA which is an early 3rd's difference from pick 45. There's a negligible difference as the Devils' pick moves up (pick 41 is 0.2 GSVA more than pick 45). Essentially the trade boils down to a mid 2nd for taking on RyJo's cap which is the value you're suggesting, just not directly giving it.

The other element with Kahkonen doesn't really add up, though. The Sharks' 4th rounder is likely to be somewhere around top 3 in the 4th round and the Avs' 3rd rounder will be bottom 5, maybe bottom 10 in the round. That could end up being moving up from pick 97 to pick 96. I'm not sure exactly what Kahkonen's value is but it's definitely much more than moving up a handful of spots at the end of the 3rd/start of the 4th...if anything I'd think a 3rd and a 4th coming to the Sharks would be closer to the actual value.

Byram is an excellent prospect yet to reach his potential -- which is not surprising given that defensemen take longer to mature than forwards. Zegras has already proven what his potential is, with back-to-back 60-point-plus seasons before reaching 23 years of age. So Byram for Zegras isn't close to an even exchange, never mind the fact that Anaheim doesn't need a LhD no matter how good (within the realm of realism).
