Owner will want the better player. If he makes a splash, I expect more some FA signings like Marchessault and Stamkos

I’m silently weeping rn. Yotes are my second favourite team and to see them move sucks. Especially since they were finally getting good and had a bright future.

What sucks even more is that SLC gets that bright future right away and will probably end up like Vegas, contending each year, except it’s worse because it’s all just handed to them opposed to them choosing the right players to contend.

I don’t know… that’ll be a top 10 pick. Would be hard to turn down combining Cutter, one of the top defensemen with Anaheim’s own pick, and then a forward like Catton or Lindstrom.

Wish it worked in Glendale, loved that arena and setup, if they spend to cap and trade picks for talent or to move up, don’t have roster spots for all those picks, this team could be ridiculous rather quick. Probably in on guentzel/reinhart/ could be a wide assortment of ufa buys, that would fit just right with this lineup going forward.

Vaakanainen > Soderstrom

Zegras (top-9 pick who's proven himself) >> #5 - #7 pick who hasn't (Catton or Lindstrom, neither of whom plays RW)

Replace Soderstrom with Guenther and Anaheim would consider if drafting Celebrini or Levshunov

How is Gauthier, Catton/Lindstrom plus one of the top defensemen (he'd have to be right-handed) with Anaheim's own pick an improvement on Gauthier, Zegras and one of the top defensemen with Anaheim's own pick?

I literally hope Bill Armstrong is provided with a phone he can not just hang up but slam if Zegras for a top 5 pick PLUS Guenther is an actual trade that’s proposed.

That wasn't the trade I proposed, now was it?

The very fact that you think that it would be Pat Verbeek proposing a Zegras trade to Bil Armstrong demonstrates that you don't understand what the real situation is. Anaheim isn't looking to divest themselves of Zegras, so it would take an offer from another team for the Ducks to even consider losing him, and that offer would have to have significant upside of improving the team, not just staying in the same place.

It's a general principle that only a fool makes a trade with no upside, i.e., the best that the Ducks could achieve would be to get the equivalent of Zegras. So Anaheim isn't going to be exchanging Zegras for the hope that the draft pick turns out as well, and doesn't become Lias Andersson (#7) or Haydn Fleury (#7) or Cody Glass (#6) or Jake Virtanen (#6) or Filip Zadina (#6) or Olli Juolevi (#5).

For the record, Guenther's first 75 games: 0.6 PPG; Zegras' first 99 games, 0.74 PPG.

I think Zegras is overrated. Some don’t think a top 5 pick plus would get him? Really? Teams really value their 1st rounders, especially one that high

It's a week draft, the best Anaheim can hope for is that that player turns into what Zegras already is, a top 6 offensive weapon, there's also the risk he's a bust, like Arizona's other 5OA selection in Barrett Hayton.

So if you already have Zegras, and the upside of the trade is Zegras, why do you take it?

I can handle this reply that managed to avoid the preachy, self-appointed expert complex. Still think Zegras is being overvalued, but fair point.
