Marner and Dubas reunion
That is an absurd price for PIT to pay for a guy with one year left on his contract.

Well, Marner has only 1 year left, he won’t fetch you that.

I think Toronto would prefer Graves anyway cuz he’s 6 foot 5 and plays a physical game.
He would fit the mold of defencemen Treliving has been acquiring.

I think if we move MP28, we have sign Skjei. There's no other LHDs available that are able to succeed in a top pairing role. Zadorov and Valimaki would best be a pairing below where they're being played.
Marner's great, but our defense isn't good enough at defending to make the team better than what we have now.

I like this Islanders idea
Here I thought 25 year old 30 goal scorers don't grow on trees, and would bring back at least a mid 1st + 2nd.
Especially, since Yegor is only making $3M next year, and has room to grow his game.
As for Sharky playing Center. He did okay, but Huska mentioned that he liked him better on the wing in the season end interviews.

Tough to say if CGY or NYI would take those trades - but I'd take this team for sure. Can Sharangovich play C full time? I didn't pay attention much to his time in CGY outside of knowing he had a great season.
Also, I'd kill for a Shenderovich, Shenderovich and Fishman commercial with Sharangovich

Rust, Jarry, Petterson, Eller, O'conner, pickering, bunting, all have value in a trade lmao. and that isn't counting the players with a lot of value that will not be moved unless they ask for a trade.
two grade A pieces are not in any way worth perimeter mitch marner making 11 mi :tearsofjoy
Maybe one of the two pieces but obviously not both. especially with how little the rental market returns now-a-days

the penguins laugh, you making TOR look like a laughing stock with these trades.
No one is giving you that for rental Marner.
Did you not see what the return was on rental Guentzel?
Are your TOR heads shoved so far up your backsides that you think TOR players are SOOOOO much better than everyone else that they are going to return that?
Good luck with that. Don't include the pens on it.

The Pens deal could have interest, depending on what Dubas wants to do with the bottom 6. The value isn't bad, at least.
I think we have some young players that are able ready to push for a spot in the NHL next year, and Tomasino could end up taking one of their places. However, Tomasino scored at a fairly efficient rate despite low ice time and not having a roster spot half of the year. I think he's got a higher floor than Poulin, Ponomarev, Gruden, etc. It's just a matter of do we want to pay the price for a little more certainty, or bet on the young guys we already have.

Could Marner work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Imagine874859</b></div><div>Hes making nearly 11 mil, only has 2 points, has been very very soft. He also just doesnt look like hes trying when hes in the defensive zone especially on the PK. Hes been a liability for the Leafs defensively. And to top it off he was throwing fits on the bench just to get another shift 2 seconds later. If your teammates are yelling at you, you're obviously not doing something right.</div></div>
I appreciate the detailed response. I guess I just don't think one average postseason means you're bad in the playoffs or a liability. Crosby had a 3 year postseason run where he scored like 6 points in 14 games - but we all know it would be crazy to say he's bad in the playoffs.
And for this posteason specifically, Marner had a lower xGA/60 and SCA/60 than basically all of the Leafs "major" forwards, so he must have been doing something right defensively. Also had a 59% xGF. I guess I just 1) don't think one postseason series defines you as a player and 2) don't see where he was actually terrible even in this one postseason series.
I still wouldn't break the bank to trade for him though - I agree there.

A late 1st imo. He's a good prospect, projected to be a 3C, defensively responsible, maybe can give you 30-40 points, has decent size and hands, some leadership qualities. Leafs will definitely hold onto him, he was one of Dubas's better picks along with Knies and Sandin.

I would hope Dubas would take whatever minor future is offered. The defensive bottom 6 Fs were good at what they do, but the team needs a different direction entirely and unloading Acciari would help that.

no way penguins take Hayes, the blues can keep that.
Nor is there any point on retaining 2.5 mil on Smith just to replace him with 40 pt winger DeBrusk at 5 mil.
It's like swapping 40 point wingers and now paying 7.5 million. No thanks.

There’s not even a dump lmao, that’s just making the cap work id assume, not saying we should make that trade from a pens standpoint, but the package is actually pretty good for an underachieving, injury prone winger. But yeah the retention is a huge thing.

Playing the youth 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Imagine874859</b></div><div>If the cap goes up like it should we should be able to put together a decent team, depending on how we do the year prior obviously.</div></div>
I think they should have thought more long term years ago, instead of 1 year fixes. They just didn't understand that.
I can say right now, if they don't do well next year, they should put Rakell on Crosby's line and let Crosby inflate his numbers for a trade.
Ditto with Karlsson. Let him take over the PP and run his numbers up so they can move him out.
They need to start thinking more strategically.
I have a feeling though by this season it will probably be time to put Malkin on the wing. I'm not sure he can center a line effectively anymore. It's time to decrease his responsibility and just let him shoot. He's still got a hell of a shot. I know that might be hard for him to admit but after last season, his line was dead for so long. If we get that this season as well, you got to shake it up.
