Also I was in the same boat for Ceci > Walker, but after looking into advanced stats Walker performs better than Ceci in most/all of the important categories even with a lower PDO and lower end D partner in Nick Seeler. Looking at years prior to this one Walker had better results than Ceci, however he was playing against lower end competition at that point</div></div>
Walker is better than Ceci. Ceci is still solid in his role though, but Walker helps the Oilers in transition and o-zone play. Analytics back it up and eye test.

Way to much to give up for only Laughton who isn’t that good and walker who I also don’t see as an upgrade over Ceci defensively

Carolina is contending now. They will want a quality forward for Pesce. Something like Hopkins or Hyman- not futures.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Canes laugh. Ceci is a cap dump. Broberg is eh. Pesce is worth way more. Start with Bouchard. And you had the guts to include a pick going back to the Oilers? Comical</div></div>
I’m not disagreeing totally, However, Ceci was injured all of last year, is a RHD and they are thee hardest Dmen to acquire. Ceci has legit value despite whatever misconceptions you have of the player.
Broberg is statistically tracking as a true second pairing adman who can play both sides and has done so at the NHL level.
You need to reevaluate what you think you’re getting for a player with 1 year on his contract.
The Provorov trade and the Severson trade called, they said your ask is wildly off.

Minimum for Pesce
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JBrger18</b></div><div>Completely fair! You seem like a reasonable thinker. I think best course of action is to play Broberg in the minors for 20-30 games and play 20-25 minutes a night in all situations. I think that would definitely help his progression and value, especially if he can stay healthy</div></div>
For sure... He seems like he needs just a little bit more time down in the minors before he's ready to take a NHL role and if he's doing all right at the NHL level by the time the trade deadline then I think the Hurricanes might be willing to deal for him considering if he doesn't work out we still have a couple of elite prospects waiting in the wings

Minimum for Pesce
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JBrger18</b></div><div>I think from an Oilers perspective, one would more sooner trade Broberg, 1st round pick and another higher level prospect in hopes he would sign a 4 or 5 year deal at a "reasonable' cap hit. I am a big fan of Pesce and would love to see him in orange and blue... Also to note, he is a tree, exactly what Kenny likes.</div></div>
I can see why you'd rather trade Broberg but he's much more of a gamble considering his lack of NHL experience... I think he plays up until the trade deadline on the Oilers then I think it be a much more palatable trade to Hurricanes brass

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JBrger18</b></div><div>Yeah that would have been a stretch with Yams. I am a big fan of that Nino trade and I think he is a perfect fit for the Jets. I have seen a lot of people trading him away, so was unsure where the fan base was at with him. Also wasn't suggesting Nino to EDM either</div></div>
I don't see a lot of Jets fans trading Nino away, but I do see a lot of Nino fans trying to trade for him to get him on their team. I've always been a fan of Nino and was happy to see him in a Jets uni. He likes WPG and wants to stay. WPG likes him and wants him to stay.

Jets won't retain on Pionk but they'd maybe take Foegele back who imo would be a decent bottom six add for the Jets.
Can't see any team being a 3rd party to retain on a player for two season for only a 3rd.

I was considering on putting Yammo and a first for more retained, but not sure if WPG would value Yammo as more of a cap dump than I truly think he is. Thinking they could flip Nino for more as well and get decent production from Kailer since their RW position would be full.</div></div>
Well thought out. WPG does NOT want Yamo. No more little guys and especially at his CAP. Nino is loved in WPG and someone the Jets need to hang onto if they can. You were correct in your Original Offer.

Value wise it isn't too bad, but the Jets can't really afford to trade one of two, top 4 RHD they have without an equivalent top 4 RHD coming back. So, it's very unlikely he is moved.

WPG says... not bad. Pionk can be a top pairing D and easily a 2nd pairing D. But, he's up and down. Sometimes he's the man and other times he's the goat.

Thinking Ahead
-I don't think teams are going to be lining up to take Foegele's deal, but i also don't think you need to sacrifice Puljujarvi *and* trade out of the 2024 1st rounder to get him off your cap. At the very least, you can do next summer what Minnesota did to shed Dmitry Kulikov this summer, and get a team with space to just take him for nothing.
-Vegas, hilariously, is literally already over the cap for 2023-24 with their current contract situation. I would be very surprised if they traded McNabb ($2.875M) for Barrie ($4.5M) without more cap going out. I think the package is acceptable, sure, but logistically I can't see the Knights having the room to do this as of now.
-Minnesota runs away with this deal before you can change your mind. Foligno is a fine player, and I know you're looking for more sandpaper with these deals, but he's literally a 35-40 point guy. His offensive spike the past two seasons is built on the back of an insane 24.6% shooting percentage that is, obviously, due for some regression. Giving up a 1st by itself is a lot, and throwing in one of your better prospects is just overkill. The Wild thank you for your service.
-There are probably a dozen AHL-level guys like O'Brien that you can sign for free and keep the pick if you want a face-puncher. Cody McLeod, Rich Clune, and Zac Rinaldo are all guys with NHL experience you could get for nothing. Bad type of player to spend a pick on, IMO.

I don't see it, even if I squint a lot. Just their age difference would preclude it. Barrie is going to be on the downswing of his career while Bouchard still won't be in his prime yet. Bouchard is already the better player.

Quite right. But there is a way to eliminate that future headache entirely, as Bouchard is eligible to sign an extension today. Do that first, then do as you will with Barrie. That's all I ask!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>The only way I trade Barrie is if Bouchard signs an extension first. His contract is up next July so he is eligible to sign an extension right now.
Bouchard scored 43 points last year with minimal PP time... he was 11th in the league among defensemen for scoring at 5v5. He's probably getting $5-6M on a long term extension as it is, let alone after a 60 point season.</div></div>
In my opinion not much difference from a buyout just creating future headache for temporary relief. Creating a much much larger problem.

Let's look at the cause and effect of trading Barrie right now. As it stands bouchard will get paid for his 5-5 play on a bridge deal I'm guessing around 3 million x 2 or 3 years. If bouchard works out on the pp what will that do to his next deal? 5-6 million? Shooting yourself in the foot moving forward when it's completely avoidable by holding onto the proven player for one more year.
