Yeah, but you never know... Brandon Saad had an injury his draft year, too, and as a result slipped into the second round. He turned out to be a VERY good pick.

Habs would be silly to do this. Demidov is NOT that much better than #5. He's better for sure but Lindstrom, Catton, Iginla, etc are all going to be studs also.

Agree with all this, Snowhawk; thx.

That's a VERY strong offer. If the Hawks are locked in on Demidov, they probably just take him. If they aren't sold on Demidov, then the Hawks would be foolish not to consider this.

Not true. Demidov is clearly the best player available at 2nd OA. If MTL is trading up to 2nd overall, they are trading up for Demidov.

Skinner likely isn't waiving. But if he did, the Hawks probably accept. The options at #11 are far better than the options at #20 in this draft.

Hawks do that, they take on 5 mil for still a pretty good player and move up from 20 to 11 seems like a win to me.

I gotta get the tree sap off my car before I wax it anyway. So, that works for me.

Cap Circumvention
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Osaka</b></div><div>Blackhawks want to tank right now and can get good picks by themselves. Skinner might have been a good player for Bedard to rack up points and still lose games to continue the tank, but Skinner isn't at that level anymore. Skinner would also take a spot away from rookies. I also know Bedard needs to be extended - Skinner won't be off the books until after that happens.
One reason I thought this trade would work is because the 2.25M will stop once that 11th Overall pick needed to be extended. I didn't know it was literally illegal. Thanks for the talk though!</div></div>
Sure. But our cap situation will still be ok even after paying Bedard and the others. The cap will likely be close to or over $100M by then. I wouldn't be too worried about it, personally. But, sure, it's a legit concern.

As long as the trades are a year apart, it's legal. If that works for BUF, I think CHI could be convinced. That is a pick CHI would probably love to have.
Edit: Also, You should just send him to CHI without retention and then have us retain half. That would be $2.25M less of a cap hit for BUF than how you have it structured currently.

Chicago declines, not only is this not enough retained for Jones at $2M but there is no way Chicago retains for that long

The proposal has CHI SENDING a 1st round pick to TOR for JT.

I Dont Even Know Anymore
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random2152</b></div><div>I've never understood this sites reluctance to retain for a long time. In big trades involving big contracts - it absolutely happens! Kessel was 7 years at 1.2!!! (translates to 71.5 today). 62 isn't crazy for such an albatross deal.
I also think its weird how little people value guys like Lily. Sandin was worse than him and he landed a 1st round pick. Lily is Keefe's most used D when trailing and when protecting a lead this year. His underlyings are great and he is young. I basically consider him a younger Rasmus Andersson</div></div>
Deals like Kessel's are few and far between. SJ retained salary on Hertl, but I have a hard time recalling a lot more of those trades. Especially since I don't necessarily see the benefit for CHI.
As for Lily being a young Andersson, I think you're kidding yourself. He was a healthy scratch in both of the previous playoffs. Was he a healthy scratch in game 4 as well? He's 25, that's what 2 years younger than Andersson? Rasmus was playing top pairing minutes, putting up 50 points, and being +30 at the same age.

I’m not even sure that I’d trade the 3rd for him, but that’s probably his value. He’s definitely not worth a 2nd.

Easy no from the Hawks. Leafs have no interest in an aging centre with years left on ahis contract.....plus that way too much to pay for the current edition of Couturier.

Good thing they won't need a 1st for Thompson. I understand he's playing well right now, but so what Aidin Hill last year this time. Goalies are a weird breed.
