His second half and playoffs in Liiga were impressive as well. He seems to have turned a corner and we are seeing sustained improvements in his offensive game. He's pretty intriguing as a prospect to be honest.

Is Kapanen better than Beck
Maybe controversial I know, but Habs fans around here act like Owen Beck is the only significant center we have in the pipeline. In all honesty, Oliver Kapanen (who scored a hat trick today at the World Championships for Finland), might be a better 2-way player.
While Beck has been playing in the OHL the past 3 seasons, Kapanen has been playing in the top men's league in Finland. This year as a 20 year old you could say he was pretty dominant, especially in the playoffs where he scored over 1.0 PPG.
If it's not 100% clear, Liiga is a much harder league to play in than the OHL.
Kapanen has recently signed a contract to play for his father's team in the SHL (the top men's league in Sweden often considered to be the top professional league in Europe other than the KHL). He's eligible to play in Montreal starting in 2025-26.
What do you think? Can Kapanen be a better prospect than Beck?

Besides they don’t need Kakko to be a point per game or close to like Mika, trocheck, Kreider, or Panarin. They need really solid 2 way players</div></div>
I do, but I would also see him on PP #2 as a bumper ideally.

If you want 11M in free cap, you won't get it from a team other than MTL IMO.

I just don't think he'll ever be a top 6 player for NYR, which would be a real shame. I guess if you are happy with a 2OA bottom 6 RW, then sure, though you can easily pick one up in free agency, especially if you don't give that money to Kakko.

You forget that they are still "THE LEAFS" and as a result can attract free agents with their 11M in free cash. This allows you to BOTH stockpile for the future and go shopping in free agency for someone like Pesce.

Everyone used to say that about Panarin in the playoffs. For years. How he couldn't get it done. How he was too soft. Then low and behold, the Rangers ice a balanced team (something the Leafs have never done) and Panarin is a superstar playoff hero.
Everyone criticizes smaller players when things are going badly. Think back, what did you say/think about Panarin 2 years ago?

Anderson/Dvorak and Gallagher wont either, but maybe (long shot) they can have a better year to be able to send them anywhere else via trade. Armia wont stay long on the bench either as some others player will be bench at one point or another. At the end of 2025, he wont probably be re-sign. Armia has been hot and cold through the years, unlikely it will change long term</div></div>
Why even bother with Glass? Play Armia all year and if he continues on his pace from the past 41 games, either re-sign him or trade him at the TDL.

Armia was much better last year than:
Glass
Anderson
Dvorak
Gallagher
He was the team's best penalty killer by far and was scoring at a pace worthy of his contract the last 41 games.

Tough counter. Not sure what I would do. Personally I think Kent Hughes loves Will Smith (he coached him for several years) and badly wanted to draft him. That being said, I feel the Habs organization may be drooling over Tij Iginla who they "may" prefer over Cayden Lindstrom.
I have no idea. I think I take this deal and use the pick to draft Cole Hutson and hope he turns into an even better player than Lane.

I like the Habs deal.
Harris is a really good player, but he's not gonna play in Montreal, and using him to offload Josh in a respectful way makes sense.
What additional draft capital would you want to drop the retention, add a 4th?

Would San Jose Consider
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wqrrior</b></div><div>internal bias and small sample sizes can lead to a lot of opinions, but that doesnt mean that he is on the same level as Smith. There is nothing that is motivating the sharks to make this type of deal. They can grab a dman with pick 14 or use next years pick to fill out that position. I think the likelihood of Smith being a franchise player is significantly higher than Hutson, not by a newhook of seperation.</div></div>
I can call that internal bias as well (Edit: just realized you're not a Sharks fan) Everyone doubts the small offensive defensemen... Until they don't!
Anyway, thanks for sharing your perspective!

I think Hutson is the next Quinn Hughes based on the 2 games he played this season. He is an A+ prospect all day. That being said, I respect your opinion and understand how you might feel differently.

They have to re-sign 10 UFAs and some RFAs... No they don't have the money, at least not without letting other players walk
