I think they would be wise to move Panarin before the start of the season. If he's not resigning, move on now and don't let it become a distraction throughout the season.

Sorry this is not very fair to Tampa and it really leaves Tampa in a bad way defensively.

There are other reasons why that trade wouldn't go through (see my post on the TB side), however, TB wouldn;t be in awful shape defensively. Sergachev is a LD, who is more than likely ready for a top 4 role (playing with a veteran). Plus with Cal Foote in the pipeline and Koekkoek and Dotchin about ready for top 6 roles, TB would probably be okay. Would they be worse defensively? Absolutely, but Sergachev will likely be better than McDonagh in the long run (which could happen soon), and they got other young guys ready to make the roster as well.
TB D-Core without McDonagh:
Hedman - Stralman
Sergachev - Girardi
Coburn - Dotchin
Koekkoek
Foote (depends on development this summer)
That D is still better than most teams in the league (maybe not CBJ if this trade was to go through :) )

Contact values for Murray and Bjorkstrand are both absurd, and the Jackets (nor any team in the league) would trade away a UFA that they <em>just</em> signed in Nash.

Tippett makes it an overpayment, Huberdeau is already locked up. Even if Panarin extends I’d give mid level prospects and/or picks not any of our top prospects as we are giving up Huberdeau

I dont think Marleau’s contract is that bad because he produced last year and its only 2 more years.

Trade does..... ufa signing doesn’t. Orpik is a one year deal worth 1.5 max. No need to move a bad contract and sign a new one.

18-19 Line Up
Switch Anderson and Atkinson
Nash will be playing center, likely on the third line
Dubinsky will be playing center likely on the 4th line
Move Jenner to third line LW and Folingo will be put where ever he’s needed.

Overpaid? Filip Zadina did not get man handled in the NHL for a simple reason: he wasn't in the NHL last year. Just saying...

Opening Night Without Any Signings PLS Comment about Duclair?
Well, I think that replaces Ian Cole's offense quite nicely. Riley Nash already replaced more than the offense of the other two big departures. Team stayed about the same. Great work. Wow. Can't believe nobody else called. Minimum wage? Already? For a guy who scored twenty goals in his rookie year?
30 GMs just slapped their foreheads.

I think DuClair for league min is a great signing,
I can't believe Pitt didn't bring him in for that

I was just thinking... IF he does somewhat rebound, he would have to play with two defensive players WITH size and grit. CBJ certainly have the size.

Nothing to lose, nothing to Gain! He'll never stick, coaches hate his work ethic. Torts will refuse to play and for good reason. I liked him in NYR but you can just see it wasn't going to last.

I think Duclair for $650K is a steal!!! maybe not top line but will be effective for the Jackets and will be in for a big raise come next year.

This is an extreme case of a low-risk, high-reward contract. Scratch that, this is a no-risk signing.

Karlsson Offer Bandwagon
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ekpaul87</b></div><div>I think you're thinking of Wennberg. Werenski is an already really good defenseman (probably top 25 in the league), with upside to be a top 5 Dman in the league in the next 2-3 years. If Ottawa is looking for more than that, it's never going to happen.</div></div>
Ahh yes my mistake. In that case, it still doesn’t change my opinion. I’ll grant you he is a more elite player then I was thinking, but it’s still trading the best current defenceman, who will probably still be the best defenceman for 3-4 years, for a guy you hope reaches the top 10 in the league. Don’t think the value is far far off but I think Ottawa would look to add a Josh Anderson or another pick.

Karlsson Offer Bandwagon
Honestly don’t think your close on value. He is the best defenceman in the entire league, your getting him with a new contract and your really only giving up Werenski. Foligno is old and can still play but isn’t exactly a key piece, the first in 2020 will be a late first, and the second is probably in the 60s. So as good as Werenski is, e isn’t a top 10 center in the league, he also isn’t as elite as Ottawa would be looking for to be really the only valuable piece in the trade.

I wouldn't give up Werenski for Karlsson right now. You want to get Karlsson, wait a year and sell him on the idea of playing with Werenski and Jones.
