Montreal Canadiens - No additions or subtractions
Very, very unlikely that Leskinen or Caufield (who probably won’t even be at training camp) make the team. Also Byron is way too important to be a healthy scratch.

Maybe I over-valued him, I like the little I've seen. They are talking about playing him in the top 4. Maybe Brown and a pick would do it?

No expiring contracts...good luck finding cap space for Max and other next year. And certainly two iffy trades when no money is being returned to the Habs.

Go be bitter about Marner elsewhere.</div></div>
Not bitter about Marner, but be practical. So many teams are close to the cap they just can't team iffy players back in a trade without sending money back in a trade......Sorry your thought isn't practical.

I also find it interesting that you don't have Suzuki making the team next year</div></div>
IMO, Poehling & Suzuki are not making the team next year ;) Teasdale-Poehling-Suzuki will be Laval first line

2 big trades NYI DALLAS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jmooya</b></div><div>I like the idea of going after leddy to help the top 4 LD, but Tatar was arguably the habs 2nd best winger this past season, and quickly a fan favourite. If you make that deal, you need to get a replacement forward in the top 6.
The 2nd trade doesn’t make much sense to me. Philip danault performed very well as our 2C and is at worst a great 3C in the league. Armia for jannmark alone is about fair value (but armia is a good locker room guy for kotkaniemi so why trade him). While Robertson is a good prospect, the habs already have poehling, Evans and Suzuki waiting to make the leap. No need to trade a known food commodity for another prospect.</div></div>
Tatar can be replace easely on the Left side. Byron is a 20 goals scorer, but I prefer Lehkonen personally. Lehkonen did everything perfect, exept scoring 25 goals. He was very good at the end of the season, playing on the 1st line with Domi. Maybe he'll get is confidance back. Poehling might be able to replace Danault with is defensive play. MTL have a excellent prospect in every position KK-Poehling (C) Suzuki Ylonen (RW) Romanov (LD) Josh Brook (RD) Primeau (G) but no excellent prospect (LW). Thats why I target Robertson, and Dallas need a 2C. I think Danault vs Janmark ( filled a hole ) Robertson is in favor of MTL so I add Armia to sweet the deal.
Im just trying to make fair trades, I hope Bergevin dont move this summer actually. But this website is so fun, and I'm trying to do fair trades for both team

You won't get Edler for just $4.5M, and not for just 2 years, but he'd be a good acquisition.
I am not convinced Maatta has the speed the Habs are looking for ... uh, need badly.
You might be a bit light on Dzingle, too. But you have nearly $4M to work with, so you can definitely get most of those players.

NHL history shows anything can happen, like I said before(I'm pretty sure twice) a lot of players are willing to less if on a good team. I understand your argument, however, you have no idea what will happen, neither do I. Good day.</div></div>
It’s extremely rare for a player to take a discount to go to a specific team, and usually it doesn’t involve high end players. Kane said he loved his time in SJ yet still got the contract that he did. And wasn’t it Doughty who said that he absolutely wants to stay in LA but that he’ll “get what he deserves”. Anyways from Pacioretty perspective, he’s already taken a cheap long term contract with MTL at $4.5mil AAV, he fired his agent because of it too lol, and has already joked about it in post game interviews that he won’t be making that mistake again. Like you said though, who knows what will happen, but I think I can speak with some level of certainty that Patches get nothing less than $7mil come 2019, especially with the cap increasing.

I think his point was that if Evander Kane gets $7mil AAV, you can expect Patches to get something similar. Could be a lot more if he goes back to his 35goal 65pts form.

In many ways you are correct this is a fair trade. Buffalo has several middle 6 forwards Rodrigues, Bailey, Mittelstadt, Larsson, Girgensons. I will admit you are offering better ones. IMO Botterill would want a 2nd pair defenseman.

What about: Petry, Hudon, Lindgren +2nd for ROR, McCabe is more than fair IMO (I would keep Scherbak as Buff count many young like him)

I would pay Nash 3mil per. He's worth it. Was just going off by his current cap hit with well deserved raise.

We could pay another 0.5 mil more each (Nash and JVR). There is sufficient cap space with the salary cap raise. Just think teams will stop being silly throwing money at UFA considering some recent winger UFA busts in Okposo, Moulson, Ericsson, Lucic, etc, etc.

Parayko alone is worth probably Petry, Reilly and a 2nd (at minimum) meaning we would be getting allen, Thomas, Dunn, fabbri and a 1st for price. If he doesn’t have the 10M contract kicking in perhaps this can happen but that’s a lot of pieces for an elite goaltender who won’t be elite for his whole contract already signed.</div></div>

I like the trades and signings. This is an obvious improvement and this team looks good. I think trading chucky will benefit him wit paying with quicker younger players like himself. I think O'Reilly would help in Montreal tremendously and is a great fit behind Tavares. good job!

Sure why not. I am a Sabres fan and you probably are not going to get all of that but it is fun to dream. This is a dream world and not for real, so let's have fun. Five stars for having fun and taking the time to build this team.
BTW, IMO, if MTL could sign a couple of centers (let's say Bozak and Stastny) a healthy Price and Weber, this team would be back in the playoffs without blowing it up. Gallagher, Galchenyuk, Drouin, Pacioretty and Byron can all score. Petry is a good defenseman, sign de Hann and another defenseman and I think it is a playoff team as it was last year.

lowkey my hopes for this off season
I truly think Montreal will alway have trouble attracting older UFAs, especially Americans. If the player has has English speaking wife who wants to work.....it can be a problem. Is the French schools a problem for children.?
Players at UFA time often have little time to make a decision on what time they are going to sign with. Money being equal, just maybe has more ice off issues than players want to deal with, even if those issues aren't really valid.

What draft position is that 2018 first round pick? 4th overall + Mete + Lehkonen for Couturier? I'ld rather not. Other cheap options out there.
Boston selected Pastrnak 1 spot ahead of Montreal selecting Scherbak...
MY personal pet peeve is when fans complain about "Player X was drafted with our pick". There is no way of knowing Montreal would have selected DeBrincat. A bunch of other teams also skipped over him to allow Chicago to grab him there, so Montreal could have one more pass.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jmooya</b></div><div>Easy reject for panthers. Also 15 M AAV for Tavares is a no thank you from me. We would have nearly 34M in cap locked up long term to only 3 players on the team, who are all past their prime on the 2nd half of their deals. Especially since this team is not in a win now mode (28th place this season), putting so much money into such a small, ageing core doesn’t make sense.</div></div>
I agree 100%. Unfortunately, I don't trust Bergevin, given yesterdays press conference. I think it takes 15M to get Tavares given the taxes.
Panthers, I could see this as a lowball offer for sure. But given their depth at center (Barkov, Bjugstad, Trocheck, Borgstrom, McCann), I thought offering Pacioretty (rumoured to be open to extending in Florida), a deal could get done. Potentially adding pieces to Montreal's side (or both) could get it done.
