I think neal and turris are going to click and offer jp both veteran leadership and skill sets to complement each other. Perhaps d pairings work out like that but would swap larsson barrie balance mobility of each pairing playing equal minutes.

It’s better than a 3rd line of Marleau-Gregor-Nieto lol

Tryouts could change that - still won’t be strong but we expect some names to make some moves in camp

Chicago and Ottawa trades
I would not trade a second to Chicago. That usually doesn't play out well for us.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SevenLeg</b></div><div>Allen doesn't have negative value and another team will surely be willing to take his contract for a 3rd</div></div>
To be fair with the amount of UFA goalies this off-season I'd rather just pay or overpay one of them and save a 3rd rounder. Usually you don't have much depth in free agency with goaltenders but this year Crawford, Khudobin, Talbot, Greiss, Markstrom and even Dell could all be nice backup goalies and clearly we could land one if we're out there with the idea of spending 4M$ (Pretty sure we could land one under 3M$). With all those goalies waiting for contracts it's the main reason why I see literally no trade value for Allen by any team until the market sets and if a team's desperate afterwards then there could be a trade but I don't see it happening with young goalies coming into the league I feel every spot will be filled this summer.
Also this third rounder seems too steep in this deep draft and I'd rather take a shot on guys like Jack Finley, Antonio Stranges, Daniel Baker or Owen Pederson instead of sending it for a one year back up goalie.

I think Edmonton accepts this, or something close. Holland will hate to lose 2 veterans and especially those 2, but the cap is flat so moves will have to be made.
Edmonton had the best powerplay in over 40 years this year. Everyone looks to McDavid, Draisaitl and Nugent-Hopkins (and rightly so), but did you know that Chiasson played on the 1st unit when Neal was off due to injury? But then when Neal came back Chiasson maintained his spot on the 1st unit. Why? Because the powerplay was vastly better with him on it. For the season, the 1st unit scored 15.76 GF/60 with Chiasson and 10.71 without him.
Russell contributed well to the 4v5 PK. Among the 5 Oilers defensemen that played regular PK minutes, Russell had the lowest CA/60, FA/60, SA/60, xGA/60, SCA/60 and HDCA/60. I might have missed one... but anyways, he'll help your PK for sure.

Next Year with Lehtonen
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JulHok92</b></div><div>Hey I just want a little summary of that Lehtonen guy! Why would he start the year in MTL?</div></div>
Finnish defenseman that had 17 goals and 49 points in 60 games in the KHL last year. He just terminated his contract with Jokerit, and is reportedly wanting to go to the NHL.

Alzner Ideas
I'm not sure why any of these teams would bite an even bigger bullet by taking Alzner? I know you mentioned adding picks, but it would have to be something significant to get the needle to move.
-Goli and/or Demers: Both are better and still play valuable minutes.
-Backes: Might make a little bit of sense to spread the cap hit out over another year, but he's got a NTC.
-Smith and/or Staal: Smith might make sense, but Staal has a NMC. No reason to waive for Montreal.
-Allen: He's not great, but why create a big hole (Goalie that will likely provide reasonable results over a 30ish game span) to take another dman, and have him for 3 years?
-Sutter: NTC. Vancouver obviously likes him enough to give him a letter.
-Perreault: Winnipeg might be desperate for D, but there's no way they're that desperate.

Alzner Ideas
Think of it this way, until there is an immediate need for Alzner's cap to be used on something else, there is no need to trade him. There is no way to get Alzner off this team without it costing assets like draft pick and/or prospects.
The most realistic option is buyout next year. It'll suck as we'll get little cap relief from it in year 1 but every year after that is not very much.
I mean there is always the chance a trade happens where they give you a Lucic for Neal type in return but let's be honest, that was so lucky. Happens very rarely.

Frolik Puljujarvi vs cap space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Treize131</b></div><div>Going to have to respectfully disagree.
Other GMs know that we're in this situation so Tre does not have much to bargain with at this time. A deal like this is what we can expect and it's also what we might end up needing depending on how long it takes for Valimaki to get back up to speed. Recovery is one thing but players that miss large chunks of time from the season often don't really get back to 100% until the following season. Reilly is a serviceable defenseman with a low cap hit that can perhaps push Kylington and whoever else they bring on via PTO.</div></div>
Good take. A lot of individuals right now don't seem to notice how heavy of a cap crunch there is around the league. Once we get closer to training camps & all of the RFAs are signed & some of the remaining UFAs get signed to low deals, you'll have maybe 4-6 teams with 4-7M in cap space, and then there will be 10+ teams looking at offloading players like Frolik to get all of their guys in.
In a vacuum, Frolik is usually worth more. But under this context this is a very fair deal. CLG drops two rounds in the draft, and in exchange they get a guy that's younger, can play a few games in the top 4, and that's under contract for an extra year. (Which in this case, could be burried in full.)
Montreal does this because that's buying early on a TDL guy, and gives them an option to move him later in the season at retained salary for a team looking to make a push or to keep him as their own rental.
