Who Says No

I haven't seen anything saying Hanifin will ONLY sign in Tampa, but word is that it's his preferred destination. I don't think he'd complain about being traded to the Bruins.

Alright what is the price
I would be curious if an Andersson for Marner trade could materialize (most likely in the offseason). If the Leafs fall short in the playoffs again I could see them trying a big shake up, and that would certainly open up cap space to make other moves. For the Flames, maybe Marner really gels with the team and you extend him. If not, trade him in a year and continue the "retool".
Andersson + Kuzmenko for Marner + Liljegren

Realistic All In
I think your trade is fair. Folks sometimes consider Lindholm a 40 goal scorer, which he really isn't without very talented wingers. If we value Tanev = Brzustewicz, then Lindholm = Raty, 1st, 3rd. The return for Lindholm here is arguably better than what Vancouver got for Horvat, considering Beauvillier netted a 5th.

Calgary with some more help
I don't think either of those prospects are exciting enough for the Flames, especially with what Vancouver's got in the cupboards right now. I'd rather have fewer picks and a more intriguing prospect. Also you could just retain some of Lindholm's salary rather than paying another team to take some of Tanev's

January 23 Trade Deadline Players
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CF18GM</b></div><div>I see you're a CGY fan. What are your real expectations in a Lindholm return? Primarily futures?</div></div>
I'm firmly in the rebuild camp among Flames fans, so a package similar to the Horvat return is what I would like to see (1st round pick, top prospect, roster player for cap). Colorado, Winnipeg, and Vancouver are my preferred trading partners based on their prospect pool. Boston doesn't have a prospect that I'm too excited about.

I'd do that if I'm the Flames for sure. I know there's a lot of sentiment that Byram is untouchable, but he really is the best return the Flames could hope for in a Lindholm deal.

January 23 Trade Deadline Players
I think everyone but Merzlikins gets moved. He seems like an off-season trade given his cap hit and term.
Nashville is in a different situation with Tyson Barrie in that they're still trying to compete, but Barrie just isn't a part of their plan anymore. He's been decent considering the circumstances, and I think Nashville should be able to work out a "hockey trade" somewhere.
Everyone else gets move primarily for futures.

Trelivings Team of Signings
Johnny Gaudreau's $6.75M x 6 fits in here too, that was a great contract (until it ended).
I'd say the Monahan, Tkachuk, Giordano, Weegar, and Markstrom contracts were all good to great signings. Coleman and Frolik are/were excellent role players who earned their pesos every night.
No one could have anticipated how bad James Neil would be with the Flames, and I do remember that being a generally positive singing at the time. Huberdeau and Samsonov are similar cases.

I see what you're getting at, but this doesn't really consider the needs of the Flames or the Avalanche.
Calgary is flush with young forwards, so adding a forward to their roster and only worsens their logjam.
Colorado probably wants Lindholm over Monahan, which kind of makes the whole trade moot.

KYLINGTON CONDITIONING STINT
I'm excited for him. With Hanifin and Tanev almost certainly being traded he'll have lots of opportunity to get his back game up to speed.
Per the article on FlamesNation, players on AHL conditioning stints can be sent down for six days or three games, whichever is longer. The Wranglers play two games this weekend, then are off until next Thursday when they play another back-to-back. I'd be surpised if Kylington gets into the game tomorrow, so three games would see his conditioning stint end January 12th. He could get into a Flames game as soon as January 16th.

CGY fans out there
Klapka is really big but doesn't use his size to great advantage. He's a surprisingly fast skater, has good hands and a good shot, but I don't think he'll translate to being a scorer at the NHL level. He's also not currently responsible enough to be a valued checking forward. I think you could plug him into a 4th line energy role right now and he'd look ok, and his ceiling probably isn't much higher than that.
Personally I wouldn't trade him straight up for Evans, mostly due to the Flames having a lot of forward depth right now. Evans probably wouldn't be a regular forward with Dube, Greer, Ruzicka, and Duehr rotating through the 4th line, and when Pelletier comes back from injury he might push one of those guys out of the lineup.

Chabot and Lindholm
I don't mind the deal for the Flames, although Ryan Leonard would be the first target over Lapierre. I think Calgary has a couple of Lapierre equivalents in Zary and Pelletier, and I'd be willing to take drop one of the defencemen to snag Leonard in this deal.

Surrounding Huberdeau with Grade A quality talent
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensonfire</b></div><div>Who could Calgary bring in to support Huberdeau then ?</div></div>
I don't think it's a matter of bringing in other players as much as cracking the nut that is Huberdeau's brain right now. He was very successful in this league for a long time before getting traded to Calgary, without Bennett and Duclair, and under different coaches. The talent is still there, somewhere.
It's looking like Huberdeau will get some reps beside Lindholm and Sharangovich. On paper that should be pretty good, especially with Sharangovich playing with more confidence. Huberdeau is a pass first player, and both Lindholm and Sharangovich are shooters more than Backlund and Coleman. Plus it should get Huberdeau away from the tougher match-ups. Past this season (assuming Lindholm gets traded) Zary should move to centre, which would make Kadri the default #1 centre. Hopefully one of those two can find a little chemistry with our $10.5M man.

Surrounding Huberdeau with Grade A quality talent
Even if Florida lets all their talent go to free agency, I think you've undervalued a lot of these contracts.
Montour is a rock for the Panthers and scored over 70 points last year. Even with his offense dipping with injuries this year, he'll be using Weegar's $6.250M as a minimum. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets $7.5M should he get to free agency.
Forsling will be looking at Hanifin's extension as a comparable. Even though he doesn't have as much of a history as Hanifin, you could argue he's been the better defenceman the past two years. He'll be $6.0M+
Reinhart is a leading scorer in the league right now and has been good for the Panthers the past three season. He'll be looking for a big ticket retirement contract somewhere and probably looking at Huberdeau, Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Barzal and whatever Nylander gets as comparables. He may end up being over $10M, but certainly north of $9M.
On the other hand, I don't see Duclair getting much, he hasn't been great for San Jose so far this year. I imagine he goes to a Stanley Cup competitor on a cheap 1 year deal, like Tatar with Colorado this year.

Not true. Markstrom has been excellent this season and is earning his salary. No doubt he had a terrible year last season, but should his play continue this year that'll be 3/4 seasons of great goaltending with the Flames on top of 3 great seasons before that with the Canucks.

If you want Andersson you'd have to give up a forward prospect like Lucius and probably Salomonsson as well. You can't get a top pair RD on a great contract for the same price as a rental at the deadline.

As much as I'd like to see Byram in a Flames jersey, I don't think this makes any sense for Colorado. Hanifin isn't much of an upgrade on Byram, if he is at all. The difference in age and Byram's potential higher ceiling makes their value equal, at minimum. Then the trade becomes Johansen and two 1sts for Lindholm, which is maybe an overpay, but would be more fair if the Flames retained 50% salary.

Not enough for Weegar. Abruzzese doesn't add much value for the Flames given their depth of young forwards. What boils down to Niemela and a 1st won't get you a top pair defenceman on a good contract.

Calgary prospects in this scenario are clearly worth more than the Leaf ones, hence why I am willing to do it.
In your scenario I easily pass.</div></div>
I agree a 1st & 3rd is an overpay for Tanev, although I wouldn't be too surprised if he fetches a 1st from someone.
I might like Villeneuve more than others, and RD is a need in the Flames system, so I see a fit there. It sounds like you value Ruzicka and Klapka higher than me too. While both guys are big, neither use their size to a great advantage. Klapka hasn't been playing centre either, and if he does make the big leagues it'll be as a winger I think. Holmberg offers no value to Calgary, they've got their own Holmberg in Ben Jones, along with Zary who one would hope moves to centre after the Flames trade Lindholm.
