Toronto Maple Leafs signed William Nylander (8 Years / $11,500,000 AAV)
In a vacuum, this is a good deal just based on what Nylander brings to the table. He is worth the money and should continue to be through most of the contract. The last few years won't be as bad with the higher cap as well.
The problem is the structure of this team. I just don't think you can give 4 players 50% of the money and ice a complete roster. I have the feeling the Delta between JT+Marner now compared to JT+Marner with their upcoming extensions won't be much, if anything. JT will see his pay come down, I honestly don't know what a 'fair' number will look like, and Marner will go up. Probably something around 13-14 million/year. So even if JT takes 6-8 million on the next deal, the core four will still cost around 50% of the cap.

Whats The Cost Seattle Fans
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KrakenTheCode</b></div><div>For all the reasons listed by ATC above, I don't think the Kraken would seriously consider moving Daccord. However, if Edmonton or another team were to make an offer, the cost would undoubtedly be quite steep. Given Seattle has had goalie issues of their own in the past and Daccord is on the best run of form by a Kraken goaltender ever, I think right now you're looking at a first round pick or a conditional second round pick that becomes a first if Edmonton makes a certain round of the playoffs (a la the Fleury to Minnesota deal) to get Seattle to listen.</div></div>
Yeah it just doesnt make any sense short or long term. We've had a run of some truly awful goaltending, this guy comes out of nowhere and gives us hope and we're gunna deal that for picks?
If he werent signed for next year too I might consider it. But goaltending being what it is in the nhl, Im happy to ride this high until the carriage turns back into a pumpkin lol.

He's signed through next year. Even if we dont make a run this year, having him for 1.2 mil next year is a steal. Not much reason to trade him to western conf. opponent.

Change is needed
Flyers decline, I’m not sure they would give up Konecny for Marner straight-up. TK is one of the more underrated players in the league.
That Seattle trade is lopsided heavily in favor of the Leafs. Seattle wouldn’t give up anything for a pending UFA, let alone three good roster players and two seconds.

Best moves for this team
That’s probably the price for Larsson alone, Seattle isn’t throwing in Tolvanen for free.
Why are you overpaying the Flyers so much for a bottom pair defenceman at best?
McMann has gained a lot of Keefe’s trust. I don’t see him being thrown away and honestly as much as Blues fans might say that a pick isn’t enough, a 4th is probably enough as is, maybe a low tier prospect if you wanna sweeten the pot a bit.
Save to to say these definitely aren’t the “best moves for the team”

Did a deep search into defense and these 2 are exactly what we need
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsmustwin</b></div><div>I think if a little bit of what NSH or SEA wanted was offered it could work , not too much more I think would get either.</div></div>
Nashville paid a second for Lauzon and he's pretty much the same player. They have Stastney that could maybe step in for him but I'm not sure if that's ideal for Nashville. Don't think they are in a rush to trade him. He's young, signed for a few more years at a cheap cap hit. Sure they will listen to offers, as every team will for almost every player, but unless it's beneficial for them why do it? This deal is not close to being worth it.
Seattle doesn't have a replacement platter for Borgen. Schultz is a UFA and likely moves on. Moving him would really hurt there defender this season and next. Also again, he's young and cheap.
For the same reason you want those guys, so do their respective teams. Moving either would make both teams worse and neither team is wanting to be worse. Very limited market on defensemen this year I feel.

Deadline adding to the young core
If this thread is about adding to a young core, I don't understand moving Tolvanen. Hr has been good in Seattle and getting better.
I am curious as to the thought process here

You are at least 1 first round pick short in this deal. That isn't even factoring in the fact that I'm sure Seattle has no desire to trade Larsson (this season) and Daccord. Will have to be quite the overpay.

Daccord is clearly more valuable than Samsonov, even without tonight's shellacking.
Larsson is clearly more valuable than Niemela and the third.
Wennberg with retention is clearly more valuable than Robertson and the fifth.

For all of Toronto fan's wants and hopes, Larsson probably doesn't become available until 2024-25 TDL and that's assuming he doesn't get renewed.

Hard pass, Why would Seattle a team that's not in a competing window trade away the younger and best player in this deal for older and not as good players? On top of that why would they need to give up a 3rd in order to get older and worse? Seattle does need bottom line depth, they've got that in abundance. Seattle needs top line scoring or draft capital to go out and get that.
