Cup favorites? Lol, according to who? More top heavy if anything, worse no. Adding another star who can drive a line is never a bad thing. I am just messing around, as Yzerman is probably not moving either of those guys. Miller I do not see staying though, and McDonagh has not been a great fit, but will probably stay next year and then walk (so they can shelter Serg another year).

Realistic? TB/VAN
Johnson is a guy to keep though. He has the versatility to play at center or wing and he is a playoff beast. Someone else under contract like Killorn, who is also good in the playoffs, would be more likely to be moved. But then again, Yzerman may just view Miller and McDonagh as rentals, and move Miller as an RFA for something and let McDonagh walk. The cap situation is not as dire as other fan bases try to paint it. Yzerman's group has also sucked with first round picks, so I don't even know how much they value them at this point, although they seem pretty high on Cal Foote from last year.

Trade for a Center
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sidsoul88</b></div><div>That is an interesting 1 for 1 trade and I don't think it's far off. I would think ARI needs to add value bc O'Riley has more term left on his contract than OEL but otherwise that could be a great start.
I would also add some depth scoring - Grabner, Nash, Maroon, someone else to shore up the bottom six and i think you have a team that could surprise some folks.</div></div>
You think something like a conditional pick (that gets upgraded if Ekman-Larsson walks) would work? Like a conditional 2nd in 2019 that becomes a lottery-protected 1st if he walks, or is that too much?

I do not think it is a good idea to trade Stralman and Girardi has been decent in a limited role. Anaheim is pretty flush on LHD and they have decent prospects, so I think they would want some sort of RHD to at least fill in behind Montour, which is why I would do Palat+Dotchin+ if that would get it done. I may be the only Lightning fan who sees Palat as expendable though, I don't know. I think it will take a lot more to move Callahan's albatross, but his hometown team may not be a bad idea if we properly compensate them.

I agree that stevy Y trades mcdonagh but i dont think it would be smart to go all in on one guy that gives Tampa no Defensive depth.</div></div>
The only reason I see Palat being moved is the fact that his NTC doesn't kick in until next year. They can keep him and make it work for another year at least, but I think it might be better to get out in front of the cap chase somehow. Maybe they can do a Palat+Dotchin+Pick trade for a lower cap hit RHD like a Manson?

Playoffs
I like it. The lines are pretty much what I was thinking too, as well as the D pairings. Screw the handedness, just get Sustr out of the lineup. Only thing I hope for is that they send Erne down and bring Peca back up, and sit Paquette.

Look to the West
I personally will always take a playoff performer who can play C or W, love the versatility. I think Braun is sturdy enough to balance out the D pairings. Just me thinking outside the box out loud on this armchair team though. I would still prefer a big fish from the East, but I know Yzerman will make some small but shrewd moves.

I figured we would at least have their interest with: Palat (solid 2LW with term), Koekkoek (smooth skating LHD with 2nd pairing potential), Foote (RHD prospect with good top-4 potential), and a late 1st round pick. To put it over the top as the overpay it would take: Howden (prospect with 2C potential) and Raddysh (prospect with 2RW potential).

Trades with DET, ARI, and ANA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dtd_tank</b></div><div>We'll take Sustr as a cap dump, but it's only to benefit TB, not Detroit. I personally wouldn't be interested as we have plenty of young B-prospects looking to make it into the NHL and Sustr (at 27yo) would really only be in their way.
Honestly, I'm not really even that big on Erne as he sounds like another bottom 6, maybe middle 6 guy, which isn't what we need. We have a few guys that already fill that role, and it's not really a role that you need multiples of.
So if you want to trade Sustr for space I'd say Green (ret $3M) + pick for 1st + Sustr + A-prospect, or Green + higher pick for 1st + A/B-prospect.</div></div>
Edited. What do you think now from a DET perspective?

If Tavares signs
With the team-friendly bridge he took, if Kuch continues on his trajectory, you can pencil him at Stamkos' cap hit as a minimum. Probably looking at something more like Benn, in that case though. Yzerman will have to pay him near market value on the next contract, or he is gone.

Thinking Palat and Johnson will get more. Can't see Koekkoek getting more than Dotchin - don't see either getting $1M AAV. I don't get all the threads re-signing Sustr, and at a raise nonethless - he may be a non-tender candidate if they can make a trade for a vet D.

Bring boyle back
Also, see them playing Point at third line C for depth purposes, and maybe mixing him in at RW when needed. Knowing Cooper, he will play Callahan on the second line. Yuck. Heck no to re-upping Sustr at all, let alone with a raise, but management loves him for some reason. Wish the giraffe would just go away. Would rather see them go out and sign a depth RHD like Postma, if they can't get a top-4 RHD elsewhere to push Dotchin to the third pairing with Coburn. Still holding out for Killorn being gone too. Lol. I think they will re-sign Gourde as well, so maybe they can ship Brown out for a late pick or futures. I think Condra will be captain down in Syracuse.

Yeah, can't see it being more than a slight raise over his previous cap hit, but the 2-year term seems perfect. If he's looking for a bigger raise, let him see if someone else is willing to give him a Clutterbuck-type cap hit.

I think adding Cirelli to the deal is overpayment but Tyler Johnson, Slater Koekkoek and the 2017 first round pick I would do but I don't know if the Blues do that.</div></div>
I think an overpayment would be what it would take to get him. If it were Johnson instead, I think a winger needs to be added (maybe Erne?), for the sake of TBL's organizational center depth. But I think it would have to be an elite talent like Drouin for St. Louis to even listen.

Have to still divide by 5 for compensation, even if the term exceeds it. So that would be like 10.99 AAV, which is a lot of firsts.

Hopefully they take our 4.5M 30-pointer. I mean we know how Kuch feels about him. The Johnson Palat contracts take them to UFA at 29-30 to cash in. Just messing with different scenarios. Why don't you post what you think the contracts and off-season will look like.

Tampa WPG
Yzerman does not have to move one of those three, but he will if the deal improves the team. He's probably going to bridge Drouin, and if he has to - give 3-year deals to Palat and Johnson somewhere around say $4.875M (which will let them hit UFA at 29). Drouin is the only one of three that I would say is considered part of the core by management (the others being Kucherov, Hedman, Stamkos, and Vasilevskiy). I like the premise of the trade because I really like Trouba, but I think he would cause cap problems down the road. Other notes: Dotchin is better than Sustr (hopefully management ends their love affair with Sustr); Killorn plays LW/RW (personally hoping Vegas takes him); and Callahan will most likely be our $5.8M third line albatross (to be bought out the year before Kucherov's upcoming big deal in 2 years).
